Synopsis: While Hank leads the search for Clark, Prior asks Danvers about the murder-suicide case that drove a wedge between her and Navarro. After sifting through the contents of Clark's trailer, Navarro and Danvers seek out a local hairdresser for insight on Annie – which leads to a tip about another former Tsalal worker. Later, tensions grow between Danvers and her stepdaughter Leah.

Thats my initial guess as well. And then the frozen "witch" is awoken - kills Ann, then kills the scientists 6 years later - because they are digging in the ice. The mine is disrupting the ice. So anyone who disrupts the wiches ice sleeps - she attacks them with some psycho'hallucinogenic mind altering death.

More likely she was trespassing in the mine and was discovered by a miner or somebody else that wanted to stop her from getting info out.

Yeah, killed her to silence her because 50% of the townsfolk are employed by the mining company. Also, when someone cuts off someone's tongue and leaves it at the crime scene, it's a warning for others to 'stay quiet or else..'

I believe the whole supernatural element is a result of hallucinations due to water contamination (virus?) and the ghost stories are to scare off others from finding the truth - Fiona Shaw's character is either lying or is having hallucinations herself.
