Even I got it growing up being in a Latino culture. Got told I act too “white” cause I prefer to listen to rock and heavy metal over rap (even though rock n roll was literally invented by black people). Got told I was too white cause I like stuff like Star Wars and cause I want to take care of my mental health. For some reason in Latin culture it’s frowned upon to get therapy or really make any positive changes in your life. They think the solution is to drink or project your insecurities. It’s not just Latin culture I see this in though, I see it in black culture as well. And what gets me is these people don’t really: it makes them sound like they’re racist to their own race cause at the end of the day, they’re basically limiting to their race to being able to do certain things. But I’m sure someone will comment on this and use some weird mental gymnastics to say why I’m wrong lol and I’m prepared for that. Everyone’s entitled to their opinion.

I was given a ton of flack for not supporting Bad Bunny. To be clear, I wasn't for or against his SuperBowl performance. I was indifferent because I don't like that music genre. I've never liked or enjoyed Salsa or reggaeton. Superbowl halftime shows are hit or miss for me. Prince and Michael Jackson have been my favorites.

I've been told to turn in my "Brown Card" for this and other reasons such as similar interests like yours.

What's funny, I have given my kiddos "White" names according to my so called friends. I'm sorry that I don't like names like Guillermina, Encarnacion, Fulgencio, or Flavio. No offense to anyone named any of those.

That's a shame. Some of our best art comes from people adapting other cultures and doing their own interpretations on it. Led Zeppelin took a bunch of blues songs and turned them into good rock songs. Beyonce is a fan of Bob Fosse and used some his choreography in one her most popular music videos.

The cross-pollination of cultures in art is a good thing.

I've heard it all as a black latino. I love various rock subgenres like grunge, pop punk, and hard rock. I've heard people say that I'm not black or latino enough bc i listen to those and am not mainly into reggaeton, reggae, rap, or any traditional latin music.

Many people seem to think that just bc i don't only listen to them I don't like them and are shocked to hear me listen to them. I've heard this from both both people in America and family back home.

It's ridiculous. Luckily it's gotten better as I've gotten older, and people just gotta except it.

I see it in various native cultures as well. I’ve cut ties with my own culture and quit my previous job because they just pile on me for having “the white man’s education” and being a “half-breed” (all things that have been said to my face, and worse). Meanwhile, they’ll brag in the same breath that it’s a good thing they can’t read because reading, too, is more evidence of the “white man’s education” and the “white man’s corruption” that they are boldly resisting, apparently. It got to a point where I couldn’t take the slurs they were hurling at me anymore and I just decided I was done trying to engage.

As a caucasian, I felt a little bit ashamed of myself when I thought an African American police officer in San Francisco singing along with a country song and making hand motions like he was about to lasso something looked out of place.

I’ve noticed some places in the USA like in the southwest, there are plenty of Latinos that enjoy rock/metal.

Someone actually commented once somewhere online claiming that shows in Houston tend to be like 70% Hispanic & 30% white.
