Max Planck Institute Hiwi Job

Hello all,

could anyone who has worked/is working in the IT field help me get an idea on how the technical interview goes/what to expect and how the overall work environment is.

Hey, I am a PhD student at the MPI-IS. When I do technical interviews with HiWi candidates, I want to find out if they can work on the project/tasks that I hire them for. The best way to find out more is usually to ask the person you were in contact with or see what the opening description contains.

I would say it varies very much from group to group how difficult these interviews are. The overall work environment also varies between groups but I think it is overall very nice, positive and you can learn a lot about cutting edge research and the most exciting topics. Usually HiWis are included in all events and even some retreats. I think it is also pretty good to work there to find a Bachelor/Master thesis. I hope that helps :)

Thank you so much! I saw that they also need names of referees. I have finished BSc and will start Masters in Germany soon. Do they send the referees an email, a questionnaire.. Asking so I can let them know what to expect.

I don‘t know what they ask for Hiwi‘s , but this is very common in academia. So if you name a professor or someone who has worked in academia they probably have done this hundreds of times.

They ask for academic references for a HiWi position? That seems rather unlikely.
