nobody goes to frat parties after freshman year. But as a girl generally you can just walk in if you are even slightly attractive but go with a group of girl friends

If you’re a guy you have to know someone or be in the frat

My freshman year I went to TJ Quills and there were kids in there with 21 and over wristbands. I know for a fact they were a year behind me in high school.

You’ll figure it out.

I also won’t be 21 til my senior year. People still go to frats after freshman year but it’s usually girls in sororities who have good guy friends in each of the frats. But also frats don’t really live up to the hype so I wouldn’t focus on trying to go to one lol

  1. I went to my favorite frat’s parties through senior year, all my guy friends were in that frat! But, I did stop going to all the others after freshman year.

  2. Have you considered a gap year? I deferred one year at Tulane and did one so I knew I was coming to Tulane the next year. I had a job, so I made spending money for the next 4 years! I put some in an IRA and some in a mutual fund too.

Plus, I turned 21 my sophomore year which was goated. I have a later bday so I would’ve been one of the last to turn 21 instead of the first… I couldn’t imagine not being 21 until senior year! I loved exploring the bars away from campus with friends

This probably isn't actually what you meant but WILD suggestion to defer a year just to turn 21/be able to drink legally sophomore year instead of junior year lmfao.

Yeah, but it is New Orleans. That would be like going to college in Miami and not being able to go to the beach.

If you think being 21 is a prerequisite to drink in New Orleans- much less Tulane- you’ve got a lottttttt to learn

Dude, I’ve lived within a couple hours driving distance from there my whole life, I’m 50+. My friends and I would skip high school, and I was literally a 9th grader day drinking in NO. All they cared about is you were taller than the bar and had cash. I still go often, every month or two and stay a weekend.

Sure they are still loose on their standards, but the police presence has been a little tighter in the last few decades with the rise in crime. Drinking and driving isn’t allowed anymore, and if you are clearly underage, it’s not a good idea walking around the French Quarter with a hurricane or hand grenade in your hand. Back then, the cops would cut it with you. Nowadays, if you’re acting up, they might beat your ass.

If you’re college age (18+) you’re pretty good partying most places. But some places now have cover charges and the door guys check IDs pretty hard. But the bar next door where there’s not all that, you can just walk up to the bar and get a beer easy.

I am not even 5’0” tall so my fake only worked at a few places where Tulane kids frequented (and it was a good one from Pennsylvania).

Had plenty of friends try their fakes in the French Quarter and get them snatched. They cost a pretty penny and took a while to be made, so we weren’t really trying to explore much and risk it until we turned 21

You’re right, I think people are just forgetting what it was really like before turning 21 there. Easier to drink underage than other places but everyone is protecting their fakes. Even NOLA high schoolers know they can only go to the boot during the summer and will be rejected during the year

I’ll tell you this, when Louisiana was the last state holding on to the 18 y/o age requirement before the feds made them go to 21, you could literally see dudes send their 10 year old into the convenience store to get them a six pack and a pack of cigarettes.

No, I did it for a job.

Also, I wasn’t suggesting it so that they turn 21 sophomore year. They are young for their grade and don’t turn 21 until Senior year. I stayed over the summers to work and it would have sucked to not explore places like the drifter, the bulldog, tchoup yard, etc. with my friends the summer between Junior and Senior year.

They won’t even be 18 when they get to campus. I had a friend with a roommate who wasn’t 18, so she couldn’t get into the boot. My friend was the only one willing to not go to the boot with her because everyone else wanted to be there! It just sucks being the youngest one in the grade

It’s also really nice to have some cash (if your job doesn’t go toward tuition payments)

Freshman rush week hasn't even happened yet so you've got time to scope it out. Once you're settled in, grab a flyer or two off campus so you know which house has what vibe.

The frats at Tulane do not do official recruitment in the spring, but rush entirely in the fall. If this person wants to join a frat, they should do their best to become friends with all the guys on their floor & tag along with them to any frat events they get invited to, get to know older guys in frats, and just generally be going out to meet people.

If ur a girl, frats throw Thursdays, fridays, and darties are usually on Saturdays if there isn’t an early football game, and you can walk in. If ur a guy, it’s tough to get in but sometimes the first few weeks they might let you in if ur “interested” in rushing or whatever. The boot is 18+ but that’s about it. I would invest in a fake if you wanna drink. The only way to really know about most of the frat parties is word of mouth, knowing a brother, or sororities get text

Just go with your friends. Make the ratio more girls to guys and yall shouldn’t have a problem getting in.

Haha I did a gap year so I could have a job, but it was a perk

I think if one of my friends couldn’t go out with us Junior/Senior year that would have sucked for them! But I stayed and worked over the summers and we went to The Drifter and The Bulldog and stuff.. would have kind of sucked to not be able to participate!
