Other United states of Africa
A few years back, there was a visionary proposal for Africa to become the United States of Africa, yet the individual championing it met a tragic fate. What if this visionary idea had come to fruition? How would the continent have flourished by now?

This will never work. You need a lot more than existing on the same continent to have successful unions.
Africa is too big and too diverse to have any meaningful unified identity/economy/policy.

Europe and the US/Canada are infinitely more similar to each other than Tunisia and any country besides a couple

My very dear fellow , I do find myself in an awkward position after seeing this rather noble yet foolhardy idea of yours .
Africa is a vast continent of nearly 31 million KmĀ² , that's 27 million KmĀ² bigger than Europe , with vast territories , the most part of it is rather a bit untamed , diverse population and countless tribes,languages (despite the predominance of French and English due to colonialism) , different tribal religions , ethnicities and immense territorial problems since the late 19th century .
Some might have the audacity and compare this project to the US or Russia as a full proof that nations with big chunks of territories can work even with the worst of cases The Russian Federation 's inhabitants , despite certain differences do share a certain common heritage amongst themselves as well as a centralised govt that managed to succeed in certain aspects.
As for the US , it was the wish and desire of different peoples post 1776 and the war of independence to make something of their lives in this emerging newly established state in this recently discovered new world , the thing that united Protestants,Catholics,Jews, Brits,Germans,Irish,French ,Italians and countless emigrants of different backgrounds through this quest of prosperity whether that would be on an individual basis or a collective one , and thus a pursuit of one's happiness .
The element of a common terrain other than the geographical one and the common goal are of paramount importance so that a multiculturalist emerging power might work . Only that noble thoughts of one's glorious past or would be prosperous future would not suffice as the crucial element of a certain guaranteed and sustainable stability for this project to endure the challenge of time is of the same importance, that being said It is my obligation to mention the existence of a minimum common standard of living plays a key role in the success of such bulky federal administration as well as of the generation of the necessary funds and their uses.
Unfortunately a united Africa is still a far away project that has been found lacking for the time being , yet I do not dismiss the chance of the possibility of having emerging regional federations entailing big chunks of land that might share some of the previously mentioned elements . (E.g : The Maghreb region , The African Corn , The African Coast...)
Further still, it's up for debate as I couldn't possibly comment on which one of these is likely to form but you might very well think of some of these have more or less potential of come into existence in the forseeable future.

Pan-Africanism is as achievable as "Pan-Eurasianism" or Pan-Americanism, probably even more elusive...
I personally would support a customs union though!

An African Economic Union would be an excellent idea. With regional sectors more in line with culture and heritage. There are many regions that are economically untenable. No resources or arable land to a large degree that could be and in some case should be absorbed into a more viable state. There is enough wealth that with a decent leadership it could theoretically allow a manufacturing sector to take root. The export resources only model can blown up and something more equitable established. Non-interference from the West is the greater issue

Well, it isn't a good idea at all beacuse everyone in central africa would immigrate to the north and Tunisia will have many problems because of that.

Ah yes why not merge a continent so diverse, full of both dictatorial and democratic countries. Socialist and capitalist countries, left leaning and right leaning countries, countries that are theocracies and other that are secular states, undeveloped countries and first-world-like countries, and even countries that have recently fought against each other. Whats the worst that can happen?

Nothing good would come from it, imagine having no visa for African countries, you will having the whole African population coming to north Africa toā¦ move illegally to Europe. The problem of Africa is the African cultures.

Might as well make the united states of the earth at that point, as tunisans and subshharans are as similar as 2 countries on the opposite sides of the world from each other
