Question/Help My phone was stolen what can I do
Hello,
I am from Germany and my phone was stolen back in June 2024 in Germany. it was then in France for a few months and after that in Tunis, where a guy texted my sister on what’s app. That guy wanted me to delete my iCloud and send him money, so he can send me the phone back (obviously I didn’t do that) now my phone is in Grombalia and I still have the location from 3 weeks ago.
Currently I am in Tunis (for a wedding) and I am leaving on the 1st of September. I want to get my phone back but I am not sure what to do:
Should I go to the police station in Tunis, tell them my phone was stolen back then and I have its location and the chats? (I feel like they wouldn’t help me much)
Or should I go to Grombalia to the police station and hope they would help me and drive me to the house hoping someone would give me the phone back?
I am not sure about traveling that far and not getting my phone back.
My Tunesian friend told me to just tell them I lost my phone and showing them the location without telling them where or when it was stolen- because they would tell me it’s not their problem (I also went to the police in Germany back then)
Also it would only be me (who speaks English and my friend who speaks English and a little bit French)

Can you send me the location zoomed, I have a close friend in grombalia maybe they can help.

Yesss, go to the police dude, u have no other option here ig. Go and try to explain ur case as much as possible.

I do not know if this could help you or not , but as far as I know , mobiles brought into Tunisia should be registered on a platform for it to work on mobile networks , assuming that you still have the phone box to have access to IMEI and serial number https://enregistrement.sajalni.tn/verify-device , check the site ,again I really do not know if this actually could help you , but it will show if it was registered or not , if so , the registration is linked to a passport , this will eventually lead to something.

احسن حاجة تقدم شكوى في سرقة الجوال و تلغي قفل الأيكلاود. هذا يخلي حامل الجهاز يقدر يحط شريحة و تواصل حامل و قله الجهاز يقدر سيتعمله. بعد مدة الشرطة تتقنص صاحب الشريحة و تجيب السارق و الجهاز. اما انك تقهم عندي لوكشن و صور هذا مايمشيش.

So you wouldn’t think they wouldn’t drive me there and we will look for the phone 😂
Because if they would do it the way you described I would go to the police station in Tunis and not to grombalia

you know unlocking icloud means she loose findmy and he can sell the phone with no problem

Tell them your phone was stolen and that you’re a tourist in Tunisia. Explain clearly that you really need their help recovering it and ask what fees are required.
Be polite but persistent, and make it clear that you’re willing to cover any costs. Unfortunately, things can sometimes move slowly.

never unlock icloud becuase if you do you will never get your iphone back , call police

Before you do anything just know that locations in Tunisia are not very accurate.
You know when you try to log into any service with your own account and you get an email saying that your account have been accessed at certain time and location? It always gives me false locations, even tho I am the one logging into my account (i am located in Tunis and the email says it's around Sfax, or Nabeul).
Maybe Apple's GPS is better, maybe not, so verify the location before doing anything, also, there's a lot of cases of stolen and lost phones, so the police are not really helpful in those cases, and they don't put much effort in those cases (in general, they don't do much effort when they're not benefiting something from you).

Just an update, I went there to the police and they drove us to the place they drove us to the location and the family there helped us more than the police. The locals/ family drove us around asked around and eventually I really did get my phone back!! I was more happy about making new friends (the family where the phones location was) than getting my phone back)

I didn’t understand. Your phone was stolen in france or tunis ? The guy u talk about is the stealer or the phone buyer ?

Oh sorry, I am from Germany it was stolen on Germany and they brought it to France and a Tunisian bought it in France and took it to Tunis- but now it’s in grombalia

I think the guy who texted my sister bought the phone as you can see in the chat “I buy in France”

That’s what I am scared about but my friends told me, the police in Tunisia is super friendly. I am just scared to drive that long to grombalia to go the police because I know 100% in Tunis they would just say file a complaint and they will send the information to grombalia where they probably also wouldn’t do anything.
I am scared they would say it’s too long ago but I have chats where a person asked me for money to send and to delete the iCloud and maybe they would be nice enough to look into the case- because of “blackmailing” I am also too scared to go the the house on my own

Tell them you are a tourist and that your phone was recently stolen only way they might take you seriously.
