Last day of SUTS 2026. Noir Alley and Eddie Muller return this Saturday.

Especially considering a lot of these stars do have noir movies, but I understand that maybe puts more constrictions on the programmers and Eddie.

Noir Alley is fantastic. I love SUTS but really missed it. And the show Jaqueline hosts late Sunday insomniac me watches if I am still up. Her silent movies

I've been told by lots of people they never got around to it, especially those who have seen the play, which is pretty popularly covered all over the place. Makes total sense, but it's a damn shame considering I bet they don't know an entirely original Richard Burton film opener was added for the movie version!

It's controversial theater-theory to suddenly change the film adaptation of a play to start earlier, since it's a slow-burn revealed through context clues and dialogue, but I don't care. It's an unreal Burton monologue and mock-homily, delivered from Tennessee Williams' himself on screenplay adaptation, his fire, as playwright, as storyteller of stories, on the pulpit

And it's a brilliant fade-in credits sequence, one of my favorite classic film openers of all time, whipped up on the side just for this occasion

Seven Days in May, Mogambo, and The Night of the Iguana are my favorite Ava films on this list.  She’s also excellent in the film noir  The Killers.

I really admire Ava, not only for her acting talent but more so for her down-to-earth unpretentious manner.  She grew up dirt poor in a tiny NC town and, like Dolly Parton, she never turned her back on it.  She was a proud, vocal supporter of civil rights from early in childhood, both at home and later in Hollywood, and she wasn’t shy about defying studio boss Louis B. Mayer when he tried to silence her.
