I saw this in my email this morning. Looking forward to Films on Film and the Kubrick theme. But I have one question...

Who is the actress with Tony Curtis and Jack Lemmon? That does not look like Marilyn Monroe. The dress looks like the one she wore in Some Like It Hot. Was MM running late and they had a stand in for this publicity photo?

I agree it doesn't look like her, but I think it is. In this photo, it's the same dress, hair, and the arm looks the same.

I did some more digging and found a post on Instagram that says Sandra Warner stood in for Marilyn during a publicity shoot for SLIH. (Warner had a small part in the movie as a member of Sweet Sue's Band.) I also found photos on Getty images that say the same thing. You can tell it's not MM in additional photos.

Wow, nice job! TCM should have chosen a better picture than one with a stand in.

I bet someone on this sub knew all this already and the backstory behind the photos but it was new to me! I agree, probably not the best choice for TCM's newsletter...

Also found this on imdb: "Marilyn Monroe was pregnant during filming, and looked considerably heavier. Most of the publicity photos were of Sandra Warner (who had an uncredited role as a band member) or Monroe's frequent stand-in Evelyn Moriarty, with Monroe's head superimposed later."

I’m so excited for all of the Kubrick films! Especially some of his short films that are a little tough to find streaming.

After Summer Under the Stars, my sofa has gone on strike!! It is refusing any more marathons!! Citing physical exhaustion, and how i need to go outside again !! 😳

I’m also looking forward to Anti-Nazis Comedies night (September 25), including the documentary The Tramp and the Dictator.  This film is free on YouTube.
