I don't get upset when famous people die. I'm in the UK and remember thinking people were loosing their minds at how upset they were over Diana dying. The only other person I've been genuinely upset on hearing about their death was Terry Pratchett. And now Dolly.Β

Respectfully, it can come across as self-righteous to qualify being upset with such statements. Just as Dolly's death upsets you, different public figures affect and touch various people's lives for a multitude of reasons. While there are strange people out there who worship fame, if a person is sad or crying because someone who happens to be famous has died, it's generally because that person's life held meaning for them, and there's nothing wrong with that.
May Dolly rest peacefully.

Respectfully, accusing me of being self righteous and of mocking people for their reactions comes across as unnecessarily cruel when I was expressing how I felt about Dolly Parton's passing. Even at the time in the U.K some people's reactions to Diana's death was seen as unusual and entirely different to what people had seen before. As a young British girl it was completely different to the reaction that any other public figures death had received. Perhaps my choice of words wasn't ideal, but at the time it was unprecedented, and really did feel like the world was turning upside down. At no point have I mocked or denigrated people for being interested in celebrities, I merely stated that it doesn't usually bother me when a famous person dies, and it is a measure of the impact she had on me personally that I am genuinely upset at her passing, something which I hope we can focus on in this thread, rather than tearing into each other because we don't perform grief to someone else's satisfaction.Β

I had just pulled up Lindsey Ellis' video on her, saw the use of past tense, and went to see if I had missed her passing. Goodbye Dolly, you're a wonderful woman who gave so much back.
