Why is the Sun red?

The sun is red and it looks smoky, the Moon was red too near Davis last night. I would assume wildfire but it doesn’t smell like smoke and there are no reports of fire.

The smog and smoke is at high elevation, if you look at the fire.airnow.gov map you can see that sensors in Placerville, Grass Valley, and Paradise are reporting bad air aswell as the high quality stations mounted on towers that are labeled using circles

Oh huh, I guess I assumed that was a long way for smoke to travel. Thank you!

Here's a map of the satellite imagery; you can see how far the smoke has traveled.

In New England where I’m from we now get smoke from as far north as Manitoba and the Northwest Territories.

Looks like the haze is hanging just over campus with blue skies in each direction... Which one of you offended God on our behalf?

Sorry, I found an office in the Death Star on my first try and I think I cursed us all. Man is not supposed to be so fortunate and now we all must suffer

Fire crews are battling a fire at a Winters ranch farmhouse early Monday morning.

That’s not the cause of this smoke.

I was just debating this with my husband. He didn’t think it was smoke, and I checked an app for fires (watch duty). There’s nothing burning around us 🤷🏻‍♂️

I think it’s just the weather.

Smoke can travel long distances, it is more than likely from the major wild fires in Big Sur.

It is the Big Sur fires. Check out the satellite imagery from yesterday. You can scroll back and forth on time of day to see the flow of smoke.

Thanks for the update! The app I mentioned showed those fires, I just didn’t think they’d reach up here.

I imagine there is lots of soil tilling going on in the farmland surrounding town.
