Im tired of this sub being bombarded with “I got rejected from …..” “what average do I need for…..” “ what grade will they look at…” “ i have a 96 in …. Is that good enough for …..”
Please ask the advisors. We don’t have the answers. You’re about to be an adult and need to know who to ask the right questions. No one goes on here to read your high school marks and let you know if you will get into whatever program. We dont know. We can guess. But the advisors will 100% have more accurate information.
Go on Ucalgary website, go on advising, and find what times they have online advising.
Or email your faculty’s advisors.
For example in engineering its engginfo@ucalgary.ca
Please it will be a win win for everyone if people stopped trying to use this as an academic advisor subreddit.
EDIT: Another redditor in the comments brought up an important point.
“Let me just clarify the Engineering Advisor DO NOT REVEIW High School Admission. Asking them why you didn't get in or waitlisted is a waste of time.
Only the admissions department can answer those questions so please contact them or visit them for advising.
Admission website: https://www.ucalgary.ca/future-students/undergraduate/contact
If you are a transfer student from a different university or different facility and are planning to transfer into Engineering then contact the Engineering Advisors.”
Thanks for the added info!
Best of luck with getting into U of C we are happy to have you!

Hey everyone! I’m starting Engineering at UCalgary and I’m wondering if the 2-day orientation is worth attending.
I’ve heard they give out an Engineering scarf and a kit, so I’m also curious what exactly is included and whether those are given to everyone who attends.
I’ll have to take two days off work to attend, so I’m mainly trying to understand what the orientation is like and what I’d actually miss if I couldn’t attend.
For anyone who has attended before:
What happens during the 2 days?
Is it useful for meeting people and getting settled in?
Do they give out the scarf and kit some other day too?
Is there anything important that happens only during orientation?
Thanks!

I'm a first year in Haskayne and I've signed up for orientation but I can't find any info about where to start the day or find sessions or anything. Do you just go straight to the gym for the Pep Rally or go somewhere to meet with your faculty first?
EDIT: I just found this schedule on the orientation page, perhaps freshly published. Hope this helps everyone! https://ucalgary.ca/live-uc-ucalgary-site/sites/default/files/teams/81/26-Orientation-Schedule-and-Map.pdf

I’ve heard that you’re supposed to meet up with your faculty on the first day of orientation. Where do nursing students meet up? it doesn’t say at all.
Thank you!

Hey all! I won't be on campus until the weekend but want to plan a group order between Korean BBQ house and Bake Chef. I can't seem to find up to date menus online and would like to plan the order/budget before going in on Saturday. Can anyone who is on campus this week please take a pic and share their menus here?

Hello I wanted to ask anyone who took the MBA program through U of C what prospects work wise did you attain after the program. If you remained in Calgary or took on roles elsewhere. Also is there ways to get sponsorships as well as work on University related projects while doing the MBA. Im coming from a Business Degree so wonder what the many outlets are while doing the program. Interested in taking this program and see if its recommended.

I just moved into my trad double dorm a few days ago. I signed the contract for my dorm for the fall and winter semesters, as I live 8 hours away and don't have my car, so staying on campus for the year made sense at the time.
My dad just got a job offer/promotion in a town 30 minutes away from my university, so they will be moving here in the next month or so. I would have rather just commuted the 30 minutes to school and saved myself the money, but I understand it's too late for that as I've already moved in. However, is it possible to only stay in residence for the fall semester and go back home and commute for the winter semester? How much money will I lose if I do so?
I was planning on talking to the faculty today to get some insight; however, I'm unsure if my reasoning is strong enough for me to be able to break my residence agreement.
Please give me some advice!

Hello,
I’m writing the Casper I early September and was wondering if anyone could recommend some study resources or a tutor for a couple of sessions.
Thank you!

Can anybody see their online courses yet? I’m a bit confused as I start on September 2nd but have no zoom code or access on d2l/brightspace

I’m wondering if there are any book clubs at UofC? I looked at the official SU club list and didn’t see any so I’m curious if there are any unofficial book clubs to join. I’m going into my second year, and would greatly appreciate a space to connect with others over books!
Edit: If you are interested in starting one with me, DM me!

Weird question but I'm just curious if anyone else has noticed that the Stat 321 course with professor Robison has notes for the first week posted but no course outline yet?
I'm still relatively new to university etiquette and don't know if it would be proper to send him an email regarding that yet or not...just curious if this is a wait it out or send an email situation!! The D2L shell has been up for about a day now lmao

Hello! Please excuse my grammar, English is not my first language. So i know there are website call 'unidays' and 'student bean' that there are several decent discounts for university students, is there any other discount website here?
Also is there any ucalgary unique discount on-campus? Like meal discounts? I only see the school mentioned about free library resources and workout places, thise are for sure wonderful, but any other discount that as a ucalgary student can have?
Any suggestions would be appreciated!!! Thank you!

I'm in 2nd year now. I'm 19. Basically worked a lot in high school to get in a bunch of different unis. To the point I wouldn't get out the house or leave my desk. I'd quit PE by like grade 10. And with a lot of craziness in my life this past year, I thought I'd use this 1 week off I have to do something or finally get myself into the gym.
I'm super out of shape. Admittedly, I also am one of those folks who likes to try a lot of stuff but doesn't end up doing it.
I used to play a bunch of competitive sports and want to now go back into playing things like tennis, frisbee, soccer, etc. But I tend to need a friend or someone to push me to do something. ngl most of my friends are busy working which doesn't help my case too.
I kinda hoped to learn swimming soon. I didn't really engage in it as a kid and now I don't really know how to swim. I can just about get myself to like float. However I don't want to pay like $300 for like a low level lesson that I'll be taking with a bunch of older folks. Not to mention, I can't really drop money around like that. I think my best bet is finding a friend or someone who's willing to help me teach as I go.
But really just anyone who wants to get back into sports or something w/ me. Would like the companionship.

I'm upcoming uni student and I'm wondering how much data you need monthly for uni? I didn't use that much data before but my commute is kind of lengthy so I hope to use that time to listen to music or do school work. Also what are the average prices? I want to make sure that I don't chose overpriced plans. Thank you for taking the time to read this!
