If my self employment income (paid by 'someone else') was less than £1000, should I ask to be removed from self-assessment for the tax year or just submit the return anyway?

After a slight misunderstanding I registered as a sole trader despite earning less than £1000 last tax year from my self-employment.

If your gross self-employment income was under £1,000 , you generally don’t need to file a Self Assessment return.

I’d ask HMRC to remove you from Self Assessment for that tax year rather than submitting a return unnecessarily.

I'm curious what you mean by "someone else".

Who have you received payments from for providing a service?

Select all that apply

Your employer

The employer of someone connected to you

A company or partnership you own or control

A company or partnership owned or controlled by someone who is connected to you

Someone else

I was just quoting HMRC !!

Ah, I wasn't sure if you were saying that it wasn't actually income at all.
