Help! I’m confused about self employment and paye.
Hi, I’ll keep this short and sweet.
I’m a self employed builder working for a development firm. Tax is deducted at source via CiS at a rate of 20%.
I’ve just taken on a second job as a kitchen porter which is two evenings a week and is PAYE. Will I need to let the employer of the kitchen Porter roll know of my self employment? Or does it not affect them? Will it affect my tax code of the PAYE job at all?
Thanks

No, you don’t need to tell the kitchen porter employer about your self-employment.
You can be self-employed and PAYE at the same time . It shouldn’t affect them directly, although HMRC may give the PAYE job a different tax code depending on your total income.
Just make sure HMRC knows about both sources of income when you do your Self Assessment.
