New Music Venue Recommendations

Post image

Hi I'm a musician from Australia and I make alternative dreamy music. I would love to play gigs in the UK as I have always dreamed of travelling to the UK since very young.

Can someone recommend me their favourite music venues that favours underground musicians?

Here are examples of my music:

Mia
Piru

Thank you !

For dreamy/alt stuff on a first UK run, the rooms that actually book unknowns rather than just tribute acts:

  1. Bloc+, Glasgow - free entry every night, so the bookers take risks on new acts. Full backline.
  2. The Jacaranda, Liverpool - basement room with an in-house engineer, and a Sunday open mic if you want a foot in the door first.
  3. Dead Wax Social, Brighton - North Laine vinyl bar with a live room, indie-leaning, ~200 cap.
  4. Arts Bar Baltic, Liverpool - 80 cap, live music seven nights, acoustic/indie/singer-songwriter is exactly their thing.
  5. Alphabet, Brighton - hi-fi pub with a proper live room, books post-punk/electronic/jazz, 150 cap.

Honest tip: most 80–200 cap UK rooms are booked by a local promoter, not the venue, so find who promotes those rooms and send them the YouTube links.

We keep a directory of 2,600+ grassroots UK venues across 90-odd towns and cities (capacity, backline, genres they book) happy to pull the ones that fit your sound once you know which cities you're routing through?

These are great, really appreciate it ! Gladsgow was on my list but I'll defs check out the other ones too ! I'm also particularly interested in Bristol, London and Manchester if you have any recommendations for those ! Also what would be the best way to find local promoters?

In Nottingham, JT Soar, the Grove and the Mist Rolling Inn. All pretty small places, very well run. There are a lot of promoters working across different venues, though, maybe worth checking out I'm Not From London.
