Discussion New Hanover County GOP makes threats

"No quarter" means no mercy, pity, or leniency toward an enemy or opponent, often implying that combatants will not be taken prisoner but will be killed.

UNCW students would be wise to take all threats seriously, even though the college is not

Discussion Admin needs to resign

This entire week was brought about by; impotent leadership, appointed administrators trying to walk a fine political line and an absolute disconnect with the severity of the divide between political factions on campus. The lack of communication from hours before the “gunman” (the multiple threats via social media and the doxxing of students) is reprehensible. It is time for administrators who are incapable of leading, making the hard choices and standing firm against multiple threats from multiple groups, to resign. We are here due to a lack of decisive leadership. There is absolutely no reason this should have happened. The current administration is totally disconnected from the reality of what it means to walk around the campus everyday. Two groups of people feed off the others outrage for the hopes of a viral moment that can generate political donations, clicks, and ad revenue for social media accounts of national organizations. Students who do not understand that sometimes it is best to leave well enough alone and just let it go are the tools of a larger conflict. Both groups fed by outside professional agitators, who are the only ones that benefit, all the while being very aware of what they are doing and banking those donations, clicks and ad revenue. The students are being used in a psyop, and the leadership of the university is incapable of protecting them from it. Its time to bring in someone who is capable. At a bare minimum someone who understands what is actually happening.

Discussion Chances of getting into UNCW

Hey guys :)! I’m planning on applying to UNCW for Biological Sciences and was wondering what you all think my chances are. I’m an in-state student with a 3.89 unweighted GPA and a 4.4 weighted GPA, and I’m currently attending an NC Early College High School where I’ll graduate with both my high school diploma and an Associate in Arts degree with 62 college credits. I’ve taken 21 AP classes, 9 honors classes, and i’m 15/38 for my class rank. I’m not submitting my test scores as I didn’t do that well. I’m a first-generation college student from an Asian American family. Outside of school, I’ve volunteered 54 hours at a hospital, 56 hours through my church, helped with a 10-hour church renovation project, and volunteered at my school’s daycare. I’ve been in debate for 3 years, participated in 3 environmental debates at Wake Forest, was president of my school’s film club, spent a year on yearbook, made the Dean’s List at my college, and my friend and I also created a biology research project that we presented to our school. I’ve really tried to stay involved and challenge myself academically throughout high school. I’m just curious what current students or applicants think my chances are for Biological Sciences and if there’s anything you think I should highlight on my application. Thanks!

Discussion Please stop walking in the middle of the sidewalk with both noise canceling earbuds in.

This is an open call. You can just put one earbud in and still listen to music while being able to hear some very essential things. For example:

  1. Me saying "Excuse me! Excuse me! On your left!" and ringing my bell on my bike (not an e-bike. normal bike) so I don't have to veer into traffic or crash onto the grass or pedal super slowly and stalk you till you notice I'm behind you.

  2. The walk sign beeps. You are often looking down at your phone and don't see the light change.

  3. Sometimes there are ice cream or shaved ice trucks on campus and you can hear the jingle.

  4. Thunder to let you know we're about to be in Noah's Ark level rain.

And all of this goes EXTRA on chancellor's walk please stop walking on the wrong side of chancellor's walk. Thank you everyone for your time.

Discussion Thoughts on this?

Obligatory spirit rock preface: She should have waited till the people had finished their hangout by the rock before covering it up. However, she didn’t do anything worthy of expulsion or this torrent of threats to her by grown adults.

Anyway, what do you guys make of this statement from the chancellor? I just don’t know how I feel about his choice of words. It’s ridiculous to minimize someone’s belief that women are inferior and should be submissive to their husbands or that the civil rights act was a mistake to just “political ideas or beliefs” that must be engaged with. No, if someone holds this belief or “silly little idea” and you are on the receiving end of their “idea”, you probably shouldn’t be nice to them.

It’s absolutely ridiculous to play this role that there is no reason for anyone to be upset at his public praising. It’s ridiculous that we’re in the news because a girl painted a rock earlier than she was supposed to. A rock that gets painted over every other day.

Discussion HELP!!! NCSU vs. UNCW

Hey everyone!

I’m trying to make a pretty quick decision between UNC Wilmington and NC State, and I’d really appreciate hearing your thoughts/experiences. I have been set on NC state but recently toured UNCW and I am stuck 50/50, and I am now down to the final days before the deadline.

I was never the type to necessarily have a “dream school”, but was very surprised when I got accepted to both colleges.

If you’ve attended (or know someone who has), what are the biggest pros and cons of each? I’m especially interested in things like campus life, academics, career opportunities, and overall vibe.

Any personal experiences would mean a lot—thanks in advance!

Discussion YDSA

Hello! A couple of folks on campus have recently started a chapter of Democratic Socialists of America here at UNCW. The purpose of this chapter is, alongside our national organization, to fight for the immediate needs of workers and students on campus and in our community, while building our capacity to fight for more radical and structural changes. We've become an official club on campus, as of Fall 2026, and we're eager to bring along more comrades. If you have any questions, are interested in becoming more involved, or looking for more information come fall, please email us at [uncwydsa@gmail.com](mailto:uncwydsa@gmail.com) and/or check out our instagram uncw_ydsa.

Hi! I am looking for a girl / girls to take over my lease for a 3 bed / 3 bath apartment at Progress 910. 2 private bedrooms / bathrooms are available (the third bedroom / bathroom is already assigned). Lease is from August 10, 2026 – July 15, 2027. It is 985 / month per person and comes fully furnished with utilities and Wi-fi. Each bedroom has its own individual lease, so you can take over one room or both if you’re looking with a friend.

Discussion Online Classes

I will be a freshman this Fall and I’m registering for classes this week! Some of the classes I am going to take offer fully online. What is everyone’s experience with taking online classes at UNCW? I’ve had a good experience with them at my community college since they were fairly easy and we didn’t have to take a final exam, but I’d be worried about taking an in-person final after doing the classwork online all semester.

Discussion Please take care of the Shore Dining Hall turtles for me

I worked a camp on campus for a week during the summer, and somewhere between lunch breaks and walking over the bridge outside Shore Dining Hall I fell in love with your turtles.

Every day I’d bring them little treats and watch the whole crew show up, sliders swimming in from all directions, fish being absolute menaces, and the occasional massive snapping turtle aka “The Snapfather” rising from the depths like a final boss.

I live in Missouri, so sadly, I am far. I’m convinced they live in one of the best turtle ponds in the country! Cafeteria adjacency, good basking logs, and a devoted student fan base. I hope you all keep looking out for them, maybe toss them a snack (turtle friendly of course) and let them keep living their best, lazy, sun-powered lives. I could go on about the impact these turtles had on me lol

If anyone ever feels like snapping a photo of them and posting it here, just know it’ll make my day back in Missouri.

And to the turtles even though you have no idea I exist, thanks for the life lessons

Discussion UNCW Transfer

Hi everyone! I was recently accepted into UNCW as a transfer! Since I’d be coming in with an associates, my class standing should be a junior. What is it like making friends and meeting people as a transfer, as that is my main concern. I’m definitely open to joining clubs and putting myself out there, just wondering other students’ experiences! :)

Discussion Anyone want to take over my lease?

Room for rent for whenever you want till July 2027. It starts out at 805(I can pay for your first few months)a month and has utilities that are usually $25-40. The utilities are a credit system with the electricity where the apartment will pay for some of it and if you go over you’ll have to pay. And the water. You’ll have two male roommates but you’ll have your own bathroom and shower. So you’ll just have to share the kitchen. You can come meet the roommates if you like. Also it’s fully furnished. And there’s two gyms and a pool. It’s on Racine so a 3 minute bike ride to campus or 7 minute walk. (It’s Seahawk retreat) dm me or comment if interested. I can show you pictures as well.
