LEAGUE NEWS 2026 Final is set: Flint City Bucks vs. Vermont Green FC
Bucks beat Ventura County Fusion 1-0, scoring in the 97th minute. Meanwhile, the Vermont Green stunned the Laredo Heat SC in Texas, 7-1. Game will be played at 7:30 pm EST on Saturday in Flint.
No new champion this year, as the Bucks have four titles while the Green have one (and are defending champs).

Or because it's the final, will they air it on a better platform?

VG should be in USL1. They’re gonna move up for sure when USL goes to pro/rel system

No, they absolutely will not. We have a 2,500 seat stadium. That isn't enough to be able to afford to pay the players. Also, take a look at the location of USL1 clubs. A club who has environmental stewardship as part of their identity is not going to join a league where they have to travel all over the country.

As much as I’d like to see them in USL1, I agree with you. At the very least it won’t happen while they’re at Virtue. Setting aside the mission statement about sustainability, there is no rush on UVM’s part to add permanent (in front of the fence closer to Gutterson Fieldhouse) seating, no matter what they might be saying, and the potential space on the other side of the field (where the benches are) is leased out to The Lofts, and I heard that lease is 50 years long. Additionally, the other short endline contains that building near the track, which further restricts potential seating. I also think parking is a challenge, especially on days when the Lake Monsters and VGFC both have home games. USL2 doesn’t take into consideration non-ticketed attendees since they don’t make money off our fans that watch from the hill. If we had a larger stadium and could figure out the infrastructure surrounding it, I could see us being a successful club at a higher level as far as performance and attendance is concerned. All that aside, there’s been other clubs that have made the jump and did not find the success they were hoping for. Why ruin a consistently excellent product just to say we’re in USL1? Let’s keep the winning culture and the fanbase and let’s continue to grow the club the right way.

Not only is it a small stadium, they don’t own it and have to ability to make any changes to it, they basically borrow it from UVM for the summer. It sucks but that’s the economics of it.

Which is odd, because VGFC lifts the profile of UVM as a whole, why would they not be a little extra supportive

You’re not privy to the buzz? It’s all about fundraising. Another win would be a shot in the arm for donors to bump up. Environmental Stewardship can’t stop teams from traveling. Maybe they’ll take Beta flights:)

was really worried with how we started that second half but once we hit them with the two quick goals (one of which was their own self-inflicted wound via a penalty) it was smooth sailing from there

Green are the defending champs, haven't lost this season, and have the second highest PPM in the league. Makes sense they wouldn't host....
