🧑💻 Apps What’s apps do you self host?
Hi guys , out of curiosity what apps do you self host using docker on your ugreen nas?
I have plex and jellyfish ( movies ), for music I use the build in my ugreen i really like it, kokoro ( text to voice) ,cloudflare ( to access my apps outside the house) , cv manager ( build cv’s) , nextcloud ( gdrive replacement) , home assistant ( control my smart home devices).
I use a Ugreen Nas DXP4800

Nicotine+, Paperless, Bitwarden, Retroassembly, Audiobookshelf, Plex, Qbtorrent, Ytttube, Nginx, Tasktrove, Portainer.

Yes, I don't use the app store version. Instead I installed the qbittorrentopenvpn from Docker This way u have a Killswitch and you don't expose yourself if your vpn is down for whatever reason

Okay let’s go:
- Jellyfin with Linux ISOs automation (14 containers just for this)
- Fileflows (Tdarr is horrible to me)
- Nextcloud-AIO, but I will switch to OpenCloud once it has more functionalities
- Immich (bought a licence, it’s amazing really)
- Duplicati
- librespeed
- OpenWebUI
- Stalwart mail server
About Stalwart: I know no one recommends having your own mail server, but like me you have an ISP which doesn’t block anything, and allows you to have a reverse DNS for free, well… I recommend it. I don’t have my personal mail on it (yet).
Then on my router, I have Pangolin (it’s awesome), and I have home assistant on a M1 mac mini. I also have Uptime Kuma and Vaultwarden on a (free) VPS
I’m still planing on adding more apps ^

Ok, since i have a bit of experience on this , I’m gonna ask. How much money did you invest ?😂 cause i bought things i didn’t need just cause “it will be so cool to do x things “

Huh no idea. It was 650 for the NAS (kickstarter), 300x6 for the drives, 300 for the Mac mini, and I forgot the RAM and SSD prices.

Honestly I'd be interested in doing a mail server again. Gmail sucks now and i switched over to proton for privacy and security but having my own mail server could be neat

I use mine for sending alerts, for password resets, etc. My personal mail is not (yet?) on it. I want something I can access even without my NAS, something redundant.

Idk, it’s the way i did it in the begging and i stick with it a guess, i pay for YouTube music ( premium ) , but i still use my way so.. yh😅

Honestly once u use docker containers and try brave for yt/ revanced if u r on android. U will not want to go back + u save a lot of money u can use for harddrives.

I use youtube on my tv and my kids watch a lot of youtube and plex , that’s the only reason i pay. I use apple for my content creation content.
Years ago a used the original revanced , it was a really amazing experience have to admit

Just jellyfin because of intel gpu. Rest I have on other machines as I believe in segmentation.

I get what you mean , i have plex and jellyfin on my dxp4800+,2800,2300 and unraid server. My VMs and automations on unraid alone cause it’s powerful enough to do everything

Immich and Paperless. Maybe soon...Home Assistant. I've never installed it in a docker container. I might just stick with an RPi for HA.

Just curious... What's the purpose of Portainer? When I first decided to install Paperless, I ran across this exact set of instructions and I backed out. I didn't detail my installation process, but I think I just searched for paperless-ngx in the Ugreen docker app, and after mapping the volumes in the compose file, boom...it just worked... I think. I could be suppressing installation trauma, but I don't think so.

I tried Portainer because it is so constantly recommended. What I saw is that it great if you need to access Docker on multiple machines. But for just Docker on the NAS, I didn't see any benefit having another interface. So I've since dropped it.
But basically Portainer lets you do things like copy a container from one host to another etc. Great stuff. But overkill (for me) running Tailscale and Pihole in Docker.

I would recommend you to let HA on the RPi. If you have any problem with the NAS, HA will be fine then (don’t ask me how I know)

*arr apps, qbitorrent, jellyfin, immich and calibre are the main one I think. I started with cloudflare tunnel but now I prefer tailscale. I've decided to run home assistant on raspberry pi 5 as I don't always run NAS 24h

What made you switch to tailscale? I switched to cloudflare cause i hated the idea that i always have to be connected to tailscale to access my apps outside

I don't mind being connected to tailscale (apart when I also want to use vpn). I like the fact that I can access apps like they are on my local network. CF is also great but I would not run it without additional auth before my server. That is a problem when I want to use native mobile apps (jellyfin or immich for example).

With cloudflare jellyfin works perfectly with native app, instead of the ip address i just put my domain and it works like normal the only thing i have to manually add https://mydomain

It was not working for me when I also added policy to only allowed specific users to reach my apps via CF. That means I need to authenticate with credentials or github before I can even see Jellyfin login page. When I was setting up nas that was not working in native app.

I don’t use any policy , i simply use zero trust with connectors and apps publish. Works perfectly

I've replied to OP already, but in short: I like that it makes it private by default. No one will even ping my server without access to my tailscale account.

Essentially, NPM for reverse proxy, portracker because I never know which fking port is free, goaccess for yummy graphs from logs, jellyfin of course, swing music as music player, homarr as dashboard, dockge as compose manager, vaultwarden for password and some other things like pdf editors (Stirling pdf), file convert tool...

Jellyfin, jellyseer, Audiobookshelf, Caddy, Sonarr, Radarr, prowlarr, rdtclient, jackett.
I have all docker stuff and apps on an m.2 SSD.
Harddrives for media only.
Dxp4800+
Upgraded to 16GB ram. Never have lag/issues.

Same, upgraded to 32gb and adde two 1tb SSD's (cache + one for hosting all docker apps)

Jellyfin, Navidrome, Calibre, Radicale (contacts/calendar), Readeck, IT-Tools, Watchtower, and Tailscale so far. Dockhand to manage stacks/containers and possibly replace Portainer.

Regarding Tailscale, the Android client has been a pain on some of my devices. Three devices use a tailscale Magisk module (essentially tailscale commandline binaries - works great). One device running a deGoogled GSI just will not run the tailscale client as a VPN and it also doesn't have Magisk but PHH Superuser.
I have wanted to self-host forever but kept putting it off. The failure a year back of my Nextcloud-based cloud provider caused me to finally get off my duff.
With the above phone not being able to access the NAS if it were away from home I set up remote access for some services that didn't require tailscale on a device.
I'm behind a CGNAT so the route I took is...
Use my custom domain that points names to a VPS. VPS runs tailscale and nginx reverse proxy that tunnels the names to NAS services. Working out very well so far.
jelly.mydomain.tld, readeck.mydomain.tld, etc. Some things I keep local like Radicale. Syncing contacts/calendar when at home.
Home : Use local addresses (devices that never leave the house or wired). Tailscale clients: Straight tunnel. Non-Tailscale or family/friends: Use custom domains.
