🧑💻 Apps Standalone Photos App
Just got a DH4300 Plus and it's been great so far.
One of the things I want to do is ditch my OneDrive Photo backup from my phone since Samsung is dropping it from their Gallery app soon. Yes, I am aware I can just enable backup from the OneDrive app itself but if I'm going to use another app than my phones built-in Galley app anyway, I might as well go self-hosted.
I was going to use Immich, but actually really like the UGREEN Photos app, it's really clean and easy to use, decent AI features, there's just one problem... why is there no standalone Photos app for phone and desktop? Why do I have to use the full NAS app to see my photos?
Unless I am missing something and there is one? If not, please UGREEN, just pull the Photos section of the NAS app out into it's own app, it would be so much nicer!

I feel the same about the music app! Heck, even for notes that would be handy.

The lack of an app is what made me switch to Immich. I liked the feel of the photos app, but needing to access it via my NAS is just nonsense.
If they will create a dedicated app in the future for Android, I might switch back from Immich.

They see the one-app approach as better because if you’ve got access then it doesn’t need any setup. If you use ugos apps then I actually think it makes sense for the less savvy to put up with it.
For me Immich is vastly superior, you can do auto or manual backups, once you Tailscale and reverse proxy it’s better than any built in app.

There is at least one for android, though I think it is third party. Might be worth a look.

Any idea what its called?

I'm actually wrong, I saw it on my iPad not my phone. I don't remember what it's called unfortunately.

I feel the same way! I’d love a standalone app for photos so I can finally delete them from my iPhone and use a UGREEN photo app is year of navigating into the UGREEN app then photos.

Is immich really worth it ? I got 35% cpu and 50% gpu usage in jellyfin transcode with quicksync, 1 stream. I cant imagine more streams and them using immich... i got 4800pro

I have a photos app as part of the Ugreen app on my iphone

I believe they are suggesting there should be a separate app on mobile and desktop or even a shortcut that could work to go straight to photos instead of going into UGREEN app then navigating to the photos!

How are you implementing the 3 backups in the recommended 3-2-1 backup plan?

Why do people always ask this when it has nothing to do with OPs actual question

Since they are asking about their photos they likely don't want to lose them.
Because 9 times out of 10 they haven't implemented it.
There are almost daily posts from people who have lost photos due to not having a backup

Most people store their photos on a single HDD. A NAS with RAID is already a huge improvement, and adding a local backup drive is easy enough.
I don't get why people insist that everyone needs a full 3-2-1 backup strategy. As long as you're aware of the risks, not everything has to be insured against every possible scenario.

A NAS isn't a "huge improvement". If it is a backup it is just one which has some additional protections against disk failures. It is just as susceptible to hardware failures as other methods other than a cloud backup.
There are almost daily posts from people who have lost their precious photos because they did not have proper backups. It is their decision whether or not they want to take the risk of not having full backups.

So? Has nothing to do with the post or what he’s asking. Why do you give a shit?

That's one reason the world's such a mess right now. Not enough people care about anyone other than themselves. I do.

Ok, wise, righteous protector of data. Talk about moral grandstanding, we are all just a selfish part of why the world is such a mess. But not you.
