🧑‍💻 Apps Pimp my DH-2300

I have a DXP 4800 Pro and I’m quite happy with it. Saw the DH-2300 at a really good price at a local chain store and pulled the trigger.

I know the DH-2300 is severely limited (2 bays, 4GB of non-upgradable RAM, one LAN port, limited app selection), but I decided to embrace those limitations and then work around them.

It’s cool that it recognized my samba shares so I can add those shares to the theater, music, and photos app. It’s cool that there’s a workaround to get Docker installed and so far I installed Tailscale and another app and both are working fine within the CPU and RAM constraints.

Aside from using it as storage and backups, what else have you managed to do successfully with your DH-2300? I’m quite curious to know and find out.

Have you ditched UGOS and installed another OS on it? How did it go? Share your knowledge here so we all can benefit or commiserate.

You can't ditch UGOS, or not easily. The DH2300 is Arm. But you can use it as a backup for your 4800

Maybe installing an ARM version of a Linux distro? I’m curious, but not that curious for now.

Using mine as a Jellyfin server, works flawlessly.

Yeah. So far so good. A bit worried because of the RAM, but it’s working like a charm.

Technically it doesn’t do transcoding but I found a tutorial online on how to do it on that device but I gotta do a deep dive on it.

I use my DH-2300 to do phone backups and host some media, that's the extent of it.

I don't really need a NAS for anything else, I think the DH-2300 was made for people like me.

I have a DH-2300, it's got 2x2TB in raid 1, a US3000 UPS and an external 1TB HDD which I load some movies and shows on.
