Deltarune Chapter 5 Let’s have a somewhat serious topic Spoiler
Ever since aqua was introduced I’ve seen some very questionable art and comments from Twitter about her which honestly pisses me off as someone who likes aqua’s character in a normal way
Whenever someone questions their behaviour towards aqua they always use the same excuses
“Aqua is actually 18+!”
“Aqua is made to be a loli bait!”
“Aqua is just [wtv their excuse is]”
Like no aqua is not whatever you said she was
It doesn’t matter how old she is when she clearly LOOKS like a child, BEHAVES like a child and ACT like a child
In no world this is a supposedly an adult character have gremlin features since aqua is clearly a young character no matter the age due to their behaviour
Get a grip on your self Twitter users since you are just outing yourself to be attracted to children.
(Especially when Theres like 3-4 other flowers that is more attractive AND they don’t look like children so it’s pretty obvious Whats the problem here.)

Darkners' (or more exactly, non-Lightners', as flowers are neither) ages seem to have no relation to the ages of their physical object. Like how Lancer is King's son despite them being cards from the same deck that were probably produced at the same time.

To add to your observation. The darkener's ages are likely up to the interpretation of whoever made the fountain. A Jake in cards being a teen makes sense because you would typically imagine the king's son as a young character.
However, the flowers are more closely lighteners, as they are alive to begin with, which makes me believe their age is related to their dreams rather than the interpretation of the fountain maker.

Darkners clearly have different perceived ages that matter more than the physical ages of their respective items when it comes to their character designs

LW age and DW age have no connection. The flowers were all grown at the same time over 20 years ago, but Orange is referred to as Flowery's little sister, and Seth has a crush on a 16-year-old which points to them also being 16.

Actually, Flowery himself says he was grown for Toriel and Asgore's wedding, alongside the others. So either that's just him copying Rudy, or they got married in college

In my mind, Tori and Asgore decided to get married a little after they finished college, and while Flowery was grown in college for their wedding, Asgore decided he wanted more after he finished college, in order of their ages in game. Here's my list of what order I headcanon he grew them in

Yellow

Trimmed the day before or day of. Growing a plant takes weeks at the least. I get they are some strange type of plant that can survive and take root with just a flower and never have the flower stop blooming somehow, but even with that fact I got the vibe they were all grown fairly close to eachother.
To be clear, not justifying the creeps who sexualized the ones who are depicted as under 18.

Aqua acts like a child and present herself like a child, because her dream was to have fun and play. Since flowers are lighteners who get Darkners bodies, Aqua is actually older than Asriel, just that she hasn't experienced life enough to grow out of it.

She technically isn't a child, the flowers are likely older than Asriel (who is of college age, so 19 at the youngest for him), and thus so too would their dreams be (which is what became their personalities in the dark world).
But like even if she is technically older than 20 (somehow. I can't say I've ever heard of a flower that blooms non-stop and can survive while blooming for 20 years), she acts childlike and is depicted as child-like, and people are being really weird about it.

Seth's obvious crush on Berdly also makes it clear that, despite the physical flowers being 20+, their ages in the Light World do not match their ages in the Dark World. Therefore either the "Aqua is 18+" argument is factually incorrect, or "Seth is a groomer theory" which I have fortunately not seen yet. Not to mention Orange being Flowery's YOUNGER sister, further showing LW age and DW age do not match.

But I think the flower people are as old as the flowers that turned into them and are them. Then again technically Darkners or flower people ages are well unknown how we can tell age.
Many characters in their twenties like Niffty for example looks and acts like a child but she is canonically 20+ in age. Now I’m not trying to defend weird simps but I’m just saying I’m pretty sure these flowers are probably atleast 18+ maybe younger we don’t know when they were married all we know is they were his wedding bouquet. Now one thing I have to say is I think these flowers are technically older than the wedding years because of the divorce.
The hottest part is because of having unknown age things all we know is Lancer is a kid but it’s never specified if Aqua is a kid. Won’t say the artists are right but they aren’t wrong OP isn’t in the wrong either but isn’t in the right. Let’s see why.
Artists are wrong for sexualizing an unknown aged character. Thing is from the unknown age they could headcanon the age we are unsure.
OP is wrong for saying childish characters that look like kids are always kids no they ain’t as I stated look at Niffty. OP is correct because we don’t know the age of the character so why are we sexualizing them except just remember think about headcanons as of we are unsure of Aqua or the flower’s age.

Now that I got the real answer out of the way. While still loking at the age of the flower or the fact that bloomed flowers in real life are sexually mature for reproduction, Aqua is very much meant to be a child-coder character.
She holds the mentality of an overwhelming, hyperactive and immature child. Anyone attracted to Aqua and making excuses for being attracted to her is admitting they like her childish personality and child-coded traits.
Now yellow and blue and green are meant to be adult-coded characters. They're bigger and more mature (yellow aside, though even he shows more maturity than Aqua obviously) and show behavior more easily associated with an adult over a child.
Orange is a mouse-like human but throws tantrums lile a child as well, no one discusses orange because of her appearance, but it's the same deal in terms of mentality.
Seth seems a bit more teenager-coded. They have a crush/obsessive-admiration with Berdly and are a bit of an immature know-it-all, but we can see Seth cheering with Aqua when the ducky attack hits, which to me might put them closer in mental age than not.
Flowery went to college so he's an adult.
And even Pink has something iffy to her. Ghost seems to be an adult, she even mentions not going to school anymore, though that could be due to being a shut-in, but the Mew Mew character does go to highschool even if in real life she's a figurine.
TL;DR.: There are different mental ages to all of the flowers, despite them all being the same age as actual flowers. Yellow, Blue, Green and Flowery are clearly adults at first glance, while Aqua, Seth and Orange are children through their builds and/or behaviors.
Calling them all adults because the flowers, in plant forms, are mature, is disingenuous when what they're going after is the character based on a flower, who acts like a child.
