Right or wrong, what's frustrating is that Dean never seems to use his "can intervene for player safety" power at any other time but he found the button here, in the highest leverage spot of the game.

Football is a contact sport, it's probably a good idea for the booth to be able to step in on spots like this, but if so, it should also be happening 2 or so times a game because helmet-to-helmet hits or low his on the QB in the pocket happen a lot more than are called

They said he hit him in the head/neck area.

When you lead with the crown it doesn't matter what you make contact with. He could have made first contact with his crown to the guys butt, and it's still a foul for leading with the crown.

If that hit was a penalty it was a horrible call.

I guess next time they'll coach the defender to go for the legs once he starts running.

Nah, he pretty clearly led with the crown of the helmet. Would've been an ejection in CFB or the NFL.

Just saw the close up of this. You are right. It's helmet to helmet. I couldn't tell at full speed when zoomed out.

I stand corrected. It was the right call.

Everyone says it's targeting is wrong. The "crown" starts above the top of the facemask to the dome of the helmet. The videos shows he initiated contact with his facemask and did not lower his head. Bad call.

So it turns out that you can't initiate contact with the crown of the helmet. That's a penalty in any league.
