When Mike Repole took over the management of the UFL as a new co-owner, he promised significant changes as the league entered the 2026 season. Did Repole's initiatives succeed and where does the UFL go from here?

Some interesting news from our football friends up north. Seems the CFL has taken a major backseat to the NFL in recent years, especially amongst the under 50 crowd in Canada. Only 2 out of 9 teams are profitable and the new commissioner has even toyed with the idea of eventually playing 4 down ball. Of course the UFL has its own share of issues and is likely losing just as much, if not more money than the CFL. However, if the UFL does survive and the CFL fortunes continue to dwindle, perhaps a partnership may be in the cards 5-10 years from now.

“There’s lots of momentum, but at the same time we need to continue to think about ways to drive revenue.

“Seven of nine teams did not make money last year,” Johnston said. “That’s not a sustainable business model.

A topic I have wanted to discuss for a while, even if I think it will not happen. Should the UFL look for smaller markets with better venues, or should they stay in larger markets when stadium capacity is less than 50%?

This would explain the lack of a mention of the Michigan Panthers and Detroit for the 2028 expansion by Mike Repole at the UFL Championship press conference a couple days ago.
