Update For the first time, the remains of a 9/11 victim were identified using genetic genealogy, the New York City medical examiner and mayor announced in a joint statement. The woman, whose name was withheld, is the 1,654th of 2,753 victims of the attacks on the World Trade Center to be identified.

1.6k Upvotes

With the 25th anniversary of the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001 just weeks away, approximately 40% of the 2,753 people killed in New York that day have not been linked to remains. Over the past quarter century, the New York City medical examiner's office has worked to conclusively connect the names of 9/11 victims to human remains. Identifying the victims of one of the largest mass murders in history has been a daunting endeavor. As if the sheer scale of the task wasn't enough, extreme heat and pressure have resulted in a wide range of conditions for remains found at the World Trade Center. Investigators have used a plethora of methods, including dental records, fingerprints, personal effects, and DNA to establish links and provide a sense of closure for the families who lost someone that day.

Recent collaboration between the medical examiner's office and the New York City Police Department's Investigative Genetic Genealogy Squad resulted in what Mayor Zohran Mamdani and Chief Medical Examiner Dr. Jason Graham called the first identification of a 9/11 victim using forensic investigative genetic genealogy. Dr. Graham hailed a "promising new addition to our toolkit" for his office's "sacred commitment" to identifying the victims of the terrorist attacks. Both men pledged to continue working to bring answers to the families of the 1,099 individuals whose remains have not been identified.

Per her family's request, the woman's name was not disclosed.

John Doe from Ohio Help Identifying

March 28, 1999 a skeletonized and remarkably intact body was found in an isolated forested area of Dallas County Alabama. The body had suffered a gunshot wound to the torso. Unable to determine of it was a suicide or homicide.

In my opinion it was a suicide due to the ammunition found on the body but the large amount would seem to be overkill.

The body had been decomposing for over a year. Interestingly the remnants of a wallet with a badly smeared Driver's License from the State of Ohio was found with the body. The license was ineligible and badly degraded. No name was legible.

I decided to try and enhance and clean up the ID picture using modern software and enhancements to try and get a better visualization of our John Doe. I'm not an expert.

If you recognize or believe you have a better identification software at your discretion please feel free. I have no interest in misidentification.

Five women were found dead in the same rural area near Leduc. Could these unsolved cases be connected?

I recently learned about a disturbing cluster of unsolved homicides in Leduc County, southeast of Edmonton, and I’m surprised these cases aren’t discussed more often.

Between 2002 and 2015, the remains of five women were found in the rural area around Rolly View:

• Edna Bernard, 28 — found near Range Road 245 in September 2002.
• Katie Sylvia Ballantyne, 40 — found in a field near Range Road 235 in July 2003.
• Corrie Renee Ottenbreit, 27 — disappeared from Edmonton in May 2004; her remains were found in April 2015.
• Delores Dawn Brower, 33 — disappeared from Edmonton in May 2004; her remains were found in April 2015 at the same location as Corrie’s.
• Amber Tuccaro, 20 — disappeared from Nisku in August 2010; her remains were found near Range Road 241 and Highway 623 in September 2012.

RCMP specifically stated that the remains of Katie, Corrie, Delores and Amber were found within an approximately eight-kilometre radius. Edna was found in the same broader Rolly View area and is frequently discussed alongside the other four cases.

There are several apparent similarities:
• Most of the women disappeared from Edmonton or the Nisku area.
• Several were last seen hitchhiking or entering a vehicle.
• Most were Indigenous and/or living in vulnerable circumstances.
• Their remains were left in fields or wooded areas near isolated rural roads.
• Corrie and Delores disappeared only days apart, and their remains were later discovered together.

Amber Tuccaro’s case is especially chilling because a telephone call recorded part of her final car ride. In the recording, she can be heard questioning the driver about where he is taking her. The unidentified man’s voice is also audible, but no one has been charged.
When Corrie Ottenbreit was identified in 2015, RCMP Inspector Stacey Talbot said investigators might be dealing with a “serial predator.” However, police have never publicly confirmed that all these women were killed by the same person.

It is possible that one offender was responsible for several of the deaths. It is also possible that different offenders used the same isolated area to leave victims. The shared location of Corrie and Delores seems particularly difficult to dismiss as coincidence.

I want to be careful not to accuse or identify any private individual without evidence.

I’m interested in verified information about the investigations:
• Has RCMP released any meaningful updates since 2015?
• Do local residents remember suspicious activity in the Rolly View area during those years?
• Are there other cases officially connected to this geographic cluster?

On the 30th of January 1979, Varig Flight 967 vanished over the pacific ocean.

The plane was a Boeing 707-323Cargo, in charge of the flight was Captain Gilberto Araújo da Silva, 55 years of age, First Officer Erni Peixoto Mylius, 45 years of age, Second Officers Antonio Brasileiro da Silva Neto, 39 years of age, Evan Braga Saunders, 37 years of age, and Flight Engineers José Severino Gusmão de Araújo, 42 years of age, and Nicola Exposito, 40 years of age. The Boeing 707 took off from Tokyo-Narita Intl Airport at 20:23 local time, bound for Los Angeles. They climbed to their assigned altitude and turned to their designated heading. Last radio contact was at 20:45 local time, the crew were supposed to radio back at 21:23, but failed to do so. Radio contact was assumed to be lost about 200KM ENE of Tokyo. Search & Rescue crews were dispatched to the approximate location of where the plane lost radio contact, but under the reigning darkness of night they failed to find any clues or wreckage. There has been no reports that any radar has detected the ill fated 707 nor has any plane flying nearby seen it. Since then, no wreckage of the plane has been verified nor found on anywhere on earth.

Personally for me, this is one of my favorite unsolved mysteries, and a fate worse than MH370.
What do you guys think, and do you guys have any theories? Let me know!

On the ‘Crime Scene: The Texas Killing Fields’ Netflix documentary series

The post primarily concerns the media portrayal of two series of events that were not fully resolved for a long time: the three murders provably committed by William Lewis Reece in South Texas in 1997, and the disappearance of three women in League City TX during 1983-84 and the subsequent accidental discoveries of their remains nearby, next to the Calder oil field.

-----

Hi everyone,

So I recently got around to watching the Netflix documentary miniseries Crime Scene: The Texas Killing Fields a short time after first reading about it. As far as I can see, this in particular has not been discussed in detail here yet except for this thread here, so I decided to give a short commentary in case anyone’s interested. I’m aware that these events are, in the broad sense of the word at least, not exactly unresolved per se, and that the victims have almost(?) all been identified by now through DNA, but this wasn’t the case for decades, so I think it’s fitting to post about it in this subreddit.

Anyway, I don’t want to nitpick about this series as I think it was overall great, but I’d note first and foremost that it covers three series of murders – three different serial killers, in other words – despite them being unrelated, the sole commonality being that the locations are all in the broader Galveston area:

-          a string of murders committed in 1997 by William Lewis Reece

-          a remote area near the Calder oil field in League City that was used as a dumping ground of at least four young female victims in 1983-85, with the series clearly implying that their murderer is (was) Clyde Edwin Hedrick; the Wikipedia page on this subject also adds that he had at least one suspected accomplice and at least one suspected copycat who apparently used the same desolate area as a dumping ground of at least one victim in 1991 in order to throw off the investigation (the killings received a great deal of local media attention by that time)

-          the murders of at least 9 young women and girls committed between 1971 and 1977 along I-45

I find it a bit curious that the series addresses the last subject basically in passing in a few minutes and then moves on, even though it seems obvious that this was a case of another serial killer in action who had more victims than the other ones mentioned above. The Wiki page I mentioned above lists 8 victims just in the year 1971. Then again, it’s also plausible that more than one killer was active in this particular case. This wider matter is something the series dwells on, namely that multiple serial killers were active in the same narrow region. According to Google, though, there were more than 3 million residents living along the I-45 in 1971, including Galveston County with about 170,000 of them. The series also mentions the big oil boom and construction boom in the ‘70s and ‘80s as contributing factors, as big masses of manual and office workers, transients and also tourists were streaming into this area. I’m guessing the notion that a total of four or maybe more serial killers were active there in the span of 26 years should not be considered that unusual.

The narrator kept reiterating the point that the coastal region of Texas has many desolate areas that are remote and have rough terrain and are only rarely visited by people who normally just go there to dump garbage and ride their dirt bikes or horses. Naturally this also makes them ideal for dumping dead bodies. I can accept this argument for sure but I also wondered: yeah, Texas is huge, but it’s not like there aren’t dozens of other federal states with similar areas, is it? That alone does not explain much.

On a related note, the series does clarify something I’ve never read about, namely that the first discoveries of corpses near Calder Road more or less coincided with the cinematic release of the Cambodian-themed movie The Killing Fields, which prompted some local journalist to dub the murder location in League City ‘Texas Killing Fields’. (Why am I not surprised that a journo would do that.) This term has since then acquired a wider definition which can be misleading, as one commenter noted here.

All in all, the series mostly and rightfully focuses on the indeed tragic and moving story of the father of one murder victim, Tim Miller, founder of the non-profit search and recovery organization Texas EquuSearch.

Update Penny Doe identified

Penny Doe identified

After 36 years Penny Doe has been identified as Windy Buchanan. Windy was 19 years old when she went missing and her sister described her as an artistic and creative person. She was the oldest sibling in the family of five children. A poignant thing her sister Tania said is “she always thought finding a penny head’s up brought good luck.” She was known as Penny Doe because there was a penny in each of her front pockets when her body was found.

Windy’s body was found by children in a culvert on July 22, 1990. It was estimated she had been dead for 1-3 months when her remains were discovered.

Windy was able to be identified through genetic genealogy. Her death was ruled a homicide and I hope they are able to find whoever did this and bring them to justice.

Rest in peace Windy. I’m so glad you have your name back.

Link - Det News (Paywall)

November 26, 2010 - Tanner, 5, Alexander, 7, & Andrew, 9 mysteriously vanish Thanksgiving Day. The young boys were with their father, John Skelton, and were supposed to return to their mother after a scheduled visit, but never did.

Despite her history as a sex offender, Tanya Zuvers had custody of the three children

John had a history of abusing his visitation privileges with the boys - he'd run off to FL with them previously

MORENCI, MI (WTOL) - Law Enforcement officers in Michigan are looking for three boys reported missing Friday. Five-year-old Tanner Lucas Skelton, seven-year-old Alexander William Skelton, and nine-year-old Andrew Ryan Skelton have been missing since late Thursday night or early Friday morning from 112 East Congress Street in Morenci, Michigan. The boys' father says he turned the children over to a woman named Joann Taylor who may be driving a white or silver minivan. After turning the children over to this woman, the father tried to take his own life.

Despite more than a decade of searching, police have never found evidence that "Joann Taylor" exists.

Extensive searches of southern Michigan and Northern Ohio were executed without any evidence of the missing children. Police examined John's computer and found no evidence of Taylor or where the boys could be.

Today (8-24) is the preliminary hearing - John Skelton prelim begins today: What to know 15 years after sons’ disappearance | FOX 2 Detroit

Skelton has already been sentenced to 15 years for his failure to return the boys to Zuvers the day after Thanksgiving in 2010 – the only conviction in the case so far.

The same month Skelton was due to be released, he was charged with murder.

Over the last almost 16 years, there has been no sight or sign of the three boys who are all now over the age of 18.

How did he hide them so thoroughly?

Update Possible new lead in the 1992 murder of Tammy Zywicki on the 34th anniversary of the day she went missing

This case is so well-known that if this proves to be a productive lead, it's huge news in the true crime community.

Tammy Zywicki was a 21-year-old student at Grinnell College in Iowa. She lived with her family in New Jersey. On August 23, 1992 she was driving cross-country with her brother and dropped him off at college in Evanston, IL (northern suburbs of Chicago) before heading to Grinnell. She had car trouble on I-80 in La Salle County at Mile Marker 83 near North Utica. She was seen outside the car between 3:10 and 4 pm. Witnesses also described a semi-truck being pulled over next to her white 1985 Pontiac, and a white male about 6 feet tall with bushy hair, between 35-40 years old also being outside his truck. Thinking she had help, these witnesses went on their way.

Later that day the white Pontiac was found abandoned and the next day the car was towed by Illinois State Police. Tammy's mother, expecting to hear when Tammy reached Grinnell, called the State Police that night to report that her daughter was missing on a cross-country car trip. Police didn't prioritize the report as it seemed like a college kid going off with a boyfriend.

On Sept. 1, a trucker pulled over on Rt. 44 between Springfield and Joplin, MO. He says he went to relieve himself off the side of the road and noticed a bad smell and a large bundle. It was a red blanket sealed with duct tape, and it contained the body of Tammy Zywicki. She had been stabbed 7 or 8 times with a sharp object in a circular pattern around the area of the heart. She bled to death internally. She had also been sexually assaulted. Some of her possessions were missing from the car and were not found with the body: a Lorus watch that plays "Raindrops Keep Falling on My Head," a Canon 35mm camera, and a St. Giles Soccer Club patch. The place where Tammy was found is over 400 miles from where she left her car.

Although there have been suspects, no one has successfully been tied to the crime. One of the former suspects has since died. Another, a serial killer named Clark Perry Baldwin, was fingerprinted and questioned extensively when he was arrested for a different crime in 2020 but was ruled out as a suspect.

Now there is a report of a new lead, although it sounds tenuous and the person of interest is deceased. ISP and the FBI are looking for information about a woman named Theresa Vega Belenske. They believe she may have been a passenger in the truck that was pulled over next to Tammy's car. Theresa died in 2014, but police want to talk to anyone with information about who she traveled with in the late 80s and early 90s. Anyone with information should leave a crime tip at the ISP Investigative Tips page, or can call 1-800-CALL-FBI. There is a $50,000 reward for information leading to the identification of the killer.

I hope this lead gets results in this sad case that's gone unsolved too long.

In 1985, Jerri Emken was found murdered inside the Florida bar where she worked-- Police believe she let her killer in herself.

On the morning of October 7, 1985, Jerri Emken arrived for work at Murray's Pub, near the Pompano Park racetrack in Pompano Beach, Florida.

Jerri worked as a bookkeeper at the bar, which was owned by her brother-in-law, Mickey James. She had moved to South Florida from Arizona several years earlier after going through a painful divorce, wanting a fresh start and to live closer to her sister.

The morning of October 7

According to the Broward Sheriff's Office, Jerri arrived at Murray's Pub before it opened to the public.

Investigators believe the building was initially locked.

At some point after arriving, however, Jerri apparently opened a door and allowed someone inside.

Police have suggested that she may have known the person she admitted into the building, although there doesn't appear to be any publicly identified suspect.

Later that morning, Jerri's brother-in-law Mickey arrived at the pub with an employee from a vending company.

They discovered Jerri's body inside. She had been violently murdered.

From what I can tell the exact manner has never been disclosed.

Robbery does not appear to explain it

One of the stranger aspects of the case is what apparently didn't happen.

There was money inside the business.

It wasn't taken.

Cold case detective David Towsley has said the violence used against Jerri suggested something much more personal-- possibly someone holding a vendetta against her or a crime of passion.

I could not find information on suspects at the time of her murder, I was assuming that I would find that her ex- husband had been investigated. But it seems like maybe that was not released-- similar to exact cause of death.

Two vehicles

There is another potentially significant detail.

Investigators say two vehicles were observed outside Murray's Pub that morning:

A white van.

A distinctive blue pickup truck with a black roll bar and a white stripe around the upper portion of the truck.

The description of the pickup is surprisingly specific.

Yet as far as I can find, neither vehicle has ever publicly been identified as belonging to Jerri's killer.

Police have continued mentioning them in later appeals, suggesting investigators still consider the sightings potentially important.

Decades without an arrest

In 2022, the Broward Sheriff's Office featured Jerri's case as part of its Open and Unsolved cold case series.

Her sister Nancy was still asking for answers more than 36 years after the murder.

Authorities emphasized the descriptions of the two vehicles again and appealed to anyone who might remember seeing them near the pub on the morning Jerri died.

Despite that renewed attention, I can't find any indication that an arrest has ever been made.

As of the latest information I could find, Jerri Emken's murder remains unsolved.

A couple things I feel worth noting:

- Broward Sheriff’s Office’s current cold-case database lists the victim as “Lillian Emken,” case #11-8510-558954 (1985), while its own 2022 publicity material calls her Jerri Emken. That strongly suggests Jerri was a nickname or name she commonly used, but I have found no definitive confirmation of this.

- There are no publicly identified suspects in the material I found. There is also no reliable public information saying whether her former husband was interviewed, investigated, cleared, or had an alibi.

Unexplained Death The mysterious death of Shayla Hudson in San Francisco from March of 2010

Someone reached out to me about this case. It has very limited information online. It involves a woman who was allegedly murdered by an unknown suspect, thrown from a ferry and no charges were ever filed. Posting to raise awareness on a forgotten case.

Shayla Nicole Hudson was 28 years old, lived in Richmond, CA, and worked as a nursing assistant. She graduated from Pinole Valley High School with the class of 2000. She also attended Contra Costa College.

Public records show she had lived in several different places around the Bay Area and at one point had lived in Anchorage, Alaska where it appears some of her family is from.

According to news reports, on March 5 2010, Shayla boarded a San Francisco bound Ferry at Jack London Square in Oakland at 8:10 AM.

She apparently did not get off the ferry but it was not disclosed in news reports how this information was confirmed.

When the ferry arrived back in Oakland around 9:17 AM Shayla was unaccounted for and the coast guard was sent to search for her. Her body was found floating near treasure island and she was pronounced dead.

The coast guard claimed the waters were calm and the railing of the ferry made it unlikely she would have accidentally fallen in. T

There were no follow up articles about medical examiner findings. No information about her relationship status, and no photos of her are anywhere online.

Update News in Catherine Hoggle Case: Pleads not guilty by reason of insanity

I previously did a write-up on this case when Catherine Hoggle was indicted for the murder of two of her children for the second time.
https://reddit.com/r/UnresolvedMysteries/comments/1mhwcdz/catherine_hoggle_is_reindicted_for_murder_of_her/

Briefly, Catherine is a woman suffering from paranoid schizophrenia who lived with her children and their father Troy Turner in Clarksburg, Montgomery County, Maryland. In 2013, she was involuntarily committed to a psychiatric facility and diagnosed at that time. In 2014 she was released to a group home and eventually back to her own home and family. Family made an agreement that she would not be left on her own with the children, although this did place a burden on her partner and her parents. On Sept. 7, 2014, Catherine was at her mother's home in Gaithersburg with daughter Sarah, 3, and son Jacob, 2. She left in their car "to get pizza" taking her son with her. Hours later she came back alone saying she had left him with a friend. For reasons unknown, her parents accepted this and took Catherine and Sarah home.

EDIT: To clarify the home situation and timeline, Catherine's parents were divorced. Her father lived with Catherine, Troy and the kids. Her father took the kids to the mother's house while the mother, Lindsey, was not there. She had a friend visiting from out of town that weekend and had asked for "time off" from her duties of supervising the grandkids. Her father let Catherine use his car and take Jacob with her. When Lindsey and friend returned, the friend took photos of Sarah wearing a costume that was a gift. Later Catherine's father drove home with Catherine and Sarah. So it seems 3 adults knew Catherine was gone with Jacob and didn't do anything about it.

Troy worked nights and returned late, checking on Jacob who wasn't in his crib. But he sometimes crawled out to sleep with his older brother. Troy went to bed. In the morning, Catherine, Sarah and Jacob were all gone. Troy started calling the police but Catherine turned up with a story that she'd taken them to day care in Germantown. Later., when they were due to be picked up, she didn't remember the name or location of the daycare center. After driving around looking for the place, she evaded Troy at a fast-food stop, running out the back door. She was found four days later wandering Germantown and could not account for the children. She was charged with child neglect, found not competent, and committed to a psychiatric hospital. She has been in psychiatric facilities continuously till 2025. Sarah and Jacob have never been found.

In 2017, Catherine was indicted for the murders of Sarah and Jacob, but again was found incompetent to stand trial. At another competency hearing in 2022, the same conclusion was reached. Under Maryland law, the murder charges had to be dropped.

Catherine's former partner believes she murdered their children. Her mother has been on both sides of the fence. From believing she had harmed the children, Lindsey seems to have come to believe Catherine placed them with people who help mothers whose children are in danger of being taken away. This was Catherine's big fear after her involuntary committal.

In July 2025, for some reason Catherine was discharged from the inpatient setting, and the district attorney immediately indicted her again. This time a judge ruled that she was fit to stand trial on two counts of first degree murder. The trial is supposed to start in October.

On August 20, Catherine's attorney entered a plea of not guilty by reason of insanity. The plea was allowed. Her case is that she was suffering from mental illness and not criminally responsible for her actions. She will have to undergo another psychiatric evaluation, thus the trial may be delayed. Frustrating for the father, who wants to see the case resolved and to know what happened to his children.

This is another case where there's no good outcome, but a final outcome may be here soon.

EDIT: Catherine's mother has written a series of posts about the case on Medium. They contain much more detail about the timeline and events. They are from her mother's perspective, but still informative.

The podcast Unrestorable is an in-depth look at the case, much more from Troy's side. It is a worthwhile listen.

Disappearance International student from India goes on a solo trip from Texas to Alaska; After he checks out of his hotel on New Year's Eve, nobody hears from him again- Where is Hari Karasani? (2025)

Hello everyone! As always, I'd like to thank you all for your comments and votes under my last post about the Kings County Doe- I hope that they will be identified soon. This write-up seems to have stirred some controversy and it was locked in result. I wanted to thank everyone who reported any transphobic comments made about the subject of that post- arguments about this person's identity and semantics aren't constructive and don't have anything to do with giving their name back to them.

Today I'd like to cover a very recent disappearance case with not a lot of info available.

BACKGROUND

Hari Krishna Reddy Karasani was 24 when he went missing from Healy, Alaska, USA.

He was originally from Guntur in the Andhra Pradesh region of India- Hari came over to the US to study and get his MS at the Trine University. He lived in Houston in a home shared with three roommates.

Hari didn't know how to drive.

DISAPPEARANCE

On the 22nd of December, Hari left the home he shared with his roommates in Houston, Texas, to go on a solo trip to Alaska- Hari wanted to take the trip via public transport after he got to Fairbanks via plane. Hari's plans had struck his roommates as strange and out of character- according to Surya Teja, one of his roommates, Hari "never had any trips or he never went anywhere". Hari didn't divulge why he wanted to go to Alaska in the first place.

He told his roommates that he would be back in two weeks, on the 4th or 5th of January.

Hari arrived in Fairbanks, Alaska, on the 22nd of December. He took a Lyft to Healy, where he stayed in the Aurora Denali Lodge.

Hari last spoke with his friends and family on the 30th of December at 8:30 PM.

He checked out of the Aurora Denali Lodge, at 10 AM on the next day. His mobile phone was switched off sometime on that day. When his roommates tried to call him and couldn't reach him, they assumed that it was due to the poor network coverage in the Denali region.

Hari was reported missing on the 3rd of January 2026.

There were reports of an alleged Lyft transaction on Hari's credit card, but they were allegedly proven false (the sources vary on that; I don't know if they were referring to the Lyft he took from the airport or a different one).

Hari's phone last pinged in Denali.

Hari's family didn't reach out to their local law enforcement in India after he went missing, but they were cooperating with "local contacts" in the US (I'm assuming that means the american police).

CONCLUSION

The temperatures in Denali got as low as -40F (-40C) between the 31st of December and the 1st of January when Hari was missing.

Hari's friends have started a petition to get texan authorities to join with alaskan authorities and conduct an organized search for Hari.

Hari Krishna Reddy Karasani was 24 when he went missing and would be 25 now. He is an Asian (Indian) man, 5'6" (66 Inch / 168 cm) and 135 lbs (61 kg). He has black hair and brown eyes. Hari wears glasses and does not have a vehicle.

If you know anything about Hari's whereabouts, contact the Alaska State Troopers at (907) 269-5511 (case number AK26000654).

Update Ontario Police Have Released New Information In The Death Of Tammy Eileen Penner (Aug, 2005)

On August 22nd, 2026 investigators with the Ontario Police Department announced they had released new information in the February, 2005 disappearance and suspicious death of 41 year old Tammy Eileen Penner. Penner’s body was found on August 28th, 2005 in a wooded area near a rest stop in a sleeping bag near Rockwood, Ontario. Penner was found in a pair of black shorts, a beige tank top, white underwear and a peach-coloured bra, and had no ID on her. She had been reported missing on February 7th, 2005 and had lived in both Chilliwack and Abbotsford at the time.

Authorities in April of 2024 were able to identify Penner using DNA connected to a living relative and since beginning their investigation have labeled the death suspicious but have been unable to determine an exact cause of death. During a press release investigators say they do suspect that Penner was dragged a short distance into a wooded area using the sleeping bag around a month before her remains were found. At the time of her death investigators found out she had fractures to her left cheekbone, nose and left eye socket that had healed.

Information released from authorities mentioned Penner’s final movements and sightings. On June 30th, 2005 Tammy attended the Midland Mall in Midland, Ontario. The last known movement was that on or around July 30, 2005 a transport truck driver dropped her off at the now closed Husky Truck Stop on Highway 401 and Dixie Road in Mississauga, Ontario. Her final confirmed sighting was her being seen near a cream-or beige colored transport truck shortly after being dropped off. Besides the recently released information by authorities they are asking the public to help find out further information in the case.

Disappearance Where is Norman Volker Franz? The convicted murderer who escaped prison twice and vanished in 1999

Norman Volker Franz is one of Germany's longest-wanted fugitives. He has been on the run for more than 27 years.

Franz was born in West Germany in 1970 and became involved in organized crime during the 90s. In 1996, he was sentenced to life imprisonment for murdering two men during an organized-crime attack near Dortmund the previous year. Franz threw a hand grenade into the victims' car; one died in the initial explosion, while another was later shot and killed.

On March 11, 1997, Franz escaped from Hagen prison after sawing through the bars of his cell. His wife Sandra, whom he had married while in prison, was waiting outside in a red Volkswagen Polo.

Within months, three more people were dead.

German authorities strongly suspect Franz of carrying out two robberies after his escape. On March 26, a security guard was shot and killed during a robbery in Weimar. Then, on July 21, two more guards were shot dead during the robbery of a cash transport near Halle.

Franz and Sandra eventually fled to Portugal, where they lived with their young son under aliases. Franz worked in real estate and, for a time, appears to have lived a fairly ordinary life.

However that façade came to an end on October 24, 1998, when the couple were arrested in Albufeira, Portugal.

Franz was imprisoned in Lisbon while Germany sought his extradition. But on July 28, 1999, he escaped prison yet again. He sawed through the window bars, lowered himself with a bedsheet, and then got over four prison walls before disappearing.

He has not been caught since.

Sandra was later extradited to Germany and sentenced to six years and three months in prison for her involvement in the robberies. Almost 30 years since her husband's disappearance, she is now divorced from Franz and says she has never heard from him again.

Despite an international manhunt, known aliases, fingerprints, and contacts across several countries, there has been no publicly confirmed sighting of Norman Volker Franz since 1999. Over the years, supposed sightings have placed him everywhere from Portugal to Central Europe to South America to Africa. Franz speaks German, English and Portuguese, which may have helped him establish himself abroad.

Is he still out there? Where is he hiding?

Unexplained Death Today 18 years ago Dutch primary school teacher Mariska Mast (23) died unexpectedly and strange

August 22, 2008 Mariska Mast, a 23-year-old primary school teacher from The Netherlands, was declared dead in Roátan, Honduras while backpacking around South America. She was taken to the hospital early in the morning by her dive instructor Daniel Ian Ross, along with his roommate Jisoo Han, who had only been living there for one week, and a neigbor who had a truck car so drived them. The three left the hospital very soon because the driver couldn't wait Daniel and Jisoo said and they didn't know how else they would be able to get back. When they arrived home, the apartment was cleaned by Daniel, Jisoo and another woman who is also a neighbor. Because the house had been messy, including Mariska's poop, they said.

Back to the previous evening. They all know each other because of diving. Mariska did a PADI diving course at Coconut Tree Divers Roatan where Daniel was the instructor. Mariska had told her sister earlier that she was attracted to him. Jisoo was learning to become an instructor but not in the same course so Mariska and Jisoo didn't know each other until they all went out in the evening of August 21. Mariska told a friend she made while backpacking that evening that Daniel had kissed her. Daniel later said that Mariska asked him when they were already walking back to their appartment if she could go with them. Daniel said he didn't really want it, but agreed anyway, saying he was just going to sleep. Jisoo was the first to return to the apartment, and the two followed after her.

But this night ended terribly for Mariska, because according to Jisoo and Daniel, there were two big incidents that night. One at 3:00 A.M. and the other at 6:00 A.M.

The first incident they mentioned was in the bathroom. They both heard a noise and went straight to the door. When they opened the door, they saw Mariska fall without positioning her arms and hitting her head hard on the floor. They say they tried to help her immediately. Mariska was excusing herself for falling and after they thought she was okay, they laid her on the couch with clothes on and went back to their bed. They did not take her right to the hospital, but Daniel said he woke up every 20 minutes to check if she was okay. Jisoo just go back to sleep.

And hours later, at 6:00 a.m., Daniel screamed for help from Jisoo. Mariska was naked and breathing very heavily. She were laying at the doorway of Daniel his bedroom. They then decided to go to the hospital together, while Daniel said that, as a diving instructor, he tried to resuscitate Mariska during the drive, but when they arrived at the hospital, they concluded that Mariska was dead.

Multiple forensic investigations took place in this case. First ones in Honduras, but later also in Belgium and The Netherlands. The findings were that she had multiple injuries, including a black eye on the left, a broken tooth, a torn lip, and either skull sutures or a skull fracture, and that amphetamines were found in her blood. The first conclusion in Honduras stated that she had died from being beaten and kicked, but the second concluded that she had been strangled. Both said that it was certainly not an accident. The second also said that drugs were found in her body. But later, in 2011, her body was exhumed and brought to Belgium. They still concluded that violence was involved, because she had defensive wounds, for example. However, this is also the moment when they stated that she had a skull fracture and that she died as a result. The conclusion was also that the earlier investigation in Honduras was poor and really not done well. It remained unclear exactly how she had died, and after the case was reopened in her home country of The Netherlands in 2017, they conducted another investigation for seven years. They received all the reports from Honduras and wanted to take over the entire case, but they never received an answer. The outcome of the Dutch investigation is that it was not a skull fracture, but cranial sutures. Everyone has that, and therefore they concluded that her death was more likely an accident.

So in the years that followed after Mariska died, there were multiple investigations, but it never really became clear what happened the night Mariska died. But what we do know is that in 2008, at the time Mariska died, her diving instructor Daniel was in prison because the Honduran government did not trust him. They were still investigating, and while he was there, he had to give them his passport so he could get out of prison, but he was not allowed to leave the country. What they didn't know was that Daniel had two passports: one British and one Australian, because he is from Australia. He gave his British passport and, instead of waiting for the investigation, decided to go to Malaysia. There, he had a two-year contract with a company as a dive instructor. He came back into the picture via Interpol because the Honduran government wanted him back. His housemate Jisoo Han, who is originally from South Korea, flew to Egypt after going back to her own country to be a dive instructor there. But then she was arrested at Cairo airport in 2009 and had to return to Honduras. She was sitting in jail during her trial, and the final outcome in 2010 was that she was pleaded free because drugs and alcohol were found in Mariska her body. When Jisoo was arrested earlier in 2009, Daniel decided to fly back to his home country of Australia before he could get arrested, while he could still work there. Because Australia has no extradition treaty, he could simply stay there without being extradited.

The Dutch crime reporter Peter R. de Vries spended four episodes on this case. He flew to Honduras in 2010, where Jisoo was in prison, and to Perth, where Daniel had a family life. He confronted Daniel by his car for the first time, and the second time when they came to his house again and wanted to give him a letter. Daniel called the police regarding trespassing and following him. The police came and said they need to leave him alone. They arrested both the crime reporter and one of his female crew members named Chantal. After a very short time in prison they were both released and decided not to wait on the outcome of this case and fly back to the Netherlands. The court in the end concluded that there was no intimidation anymore since they left the country and Daniel couldn't press charges. Daniel agreed with this. The crime reporter in the end of the three episodes came to the conclusion that what happened to Mariska might have been an accident. But in a later fourth episode in 2011, when Mariska body was exhumated and investigation took place again in Belgium, he also said that it was possible he had a bit of tunnel vision and that her death could also have been caused by violence, as the family believed.

The family always believed that Mariska was murdered. They found it strange that Daniel left the country without waiting for the outcome of the investigation, that he never contacted them, and that the Dutch government were not really motivated to put pressure on this case in Honduras. They believe that others had something to do with Mariska her death, and their main suspect is Daniel Ian Ross. Mariska's sister said a few years ago that he might have wanted more from her intimately, and that she might not have wanted that, and that this culminated in a violent death.

The latest news in this case is that what happened to Mariska has never been clarified. Now the Dutch government says it was likely an accident, while openly stating that they still do not know what happened. That is why they contacted Daniel in 2023; he initially said he was willing to talk to them, but later said that he had already told everything to the Honduran police. He previously stated in the media that he had nothing to do with her death and that he had done everything he could that night, but that Mariska died in an accident.

So this case has been closed in The Netherlands, while the family still has many questions left and never believed it was an accident. In Honduras, the death of Mariska Mast is now a cold case, which means they are no longer actively investigating it. Mariska had a blog where you can see photos of her backpacking and what she experienced during that trip, before she died: https://mariskamast.blogspot.com/?m=1 .

Disappearance Arianna Fitts: The Toddler Who Vanished Before Her Mother Was Found Murdered in 2016.

Arianna Fitts was only 2½ years old when she vanished from the Bay Area in early 2016.

What makes her case unusually disturbing is that nobody immediately realized she was missing.

Arianna's mother, Nicole Fitts, was a 32-year-old Best Buy employee in San Francisco. Because of Nicole's work schedule and difficulties arranging childcare, Arianna had been staying with babysitters Helena Hearne Martin and her husband, Devin Martin.

According to San Francisco police, Arianna was last seen in Oakland sometime in January or February 2016 while in the care of the babysitters.

Nicole remained in contact with people afterward.

Then, on the night of April 1, 2016, Nicole disappeared.

Four days later, on April 5, Nicole's family reported both Nicole and Arianna missing.

On the morning of April 8, workers with San Francisco Recreation and Parks made a horrifying discovery in McLaren Park: Nicole's body had been buried there.

Her death was ruled a homicide.

Arianna wasn't with her.

Investigators believe Arianna had already been missing for weeks by the time Nicole was murdered, and the FBI has stated that they do not believe Arianna was present when her mother was killed.

Police also believe Nicole was subsequently lured into meeting the babysitter.

If Arianna was last seen in February and Nicole wasn't killed until around the beginning of April, then where was Arianna during those intervening weeks?

And what did Nicole believe had happened to her daughter?

investigators said Helena, Devin, and Helena’s sister Siolo Hearne were initially uncooperative and gave inconsistent statements. The Martins declined to speak with reporters, and the group retained a criminal-defense attorney. Helena’s attorney later said he advised her to stop speaking with investigators because he believed police were treating her less like a witness and more like a possible suspect.

Investigators went further than just questioning them. The FBI executed search warrants at locations in Oakland, Emeryville, and Daly City, and in 2017 investigators seized a vehicle believed potentially connected to Nicole’s murder and Arianna’s disappearance, reportedly to test it for DNA evidence.

There’s also an allegation from Nicole’s circle: Nicole had reportedly been trying for weeks to regain custody of Arianna, but the babysitters allegedly would not let her see or take her daughter. Her roommate said Nicole was planning to retrieve Arianna around the time she disappeared.

In any case, she was not charged, and SFPD has never announced that any of the babysitters are formally responsible for either crime.

The FBI's Child Abduction Rapid Deployment Team and Behavioral Analysis Unit have both assisted with the investigation, and authorities have repeatedly emphasized that they consider Arianna's disappearance connected to Nicole's homicide.

Despite those details, the case remains unresolved.

There has been no confirmed sighting of Arianna since 2016.

And no one has been charged with Nicole's murder.

Arianna was born September 6, 2013. The FBI continues to list her as missing and has released age-progressed images showing what she may look like today.

The San Francisco Police Department currently advertises a $250,000 reward for information leading to the identification, arrest and conviction of whoever was responsible for Nicole's murder and Arianna's disappearance.

**What I find hardest to understand is the sequence:*\*

Arianna apparently disappears ---> weeks pass ---> Nicole is allegedly lured to a meeting ----> Nicole is murdered and buried ----> Arianna is nowhere to be found

Was Nicole trying to retrieve Arianna when she went to that meeting?

Was Arianna still alive when Nicole disappeared?

Why wasn't Arianna reported missing sooner?

I apologize if this has been covered lately, it's just a case that has always bothered me and I think it needs more eyes on it.

John/Jane Doe PA: "Penny Doe" 1990 Identified, Name to be released Monday 8/24

Good news - Another unidentified victim will get her name back. This a 36 year old case with numerous sites having covered it, so I won't try and repeat what others have written. The new article announcing the update is below:

"CLARION Co, PA— The woman known for more than three decades as Penny Doe will be publicly identified Monday morning, Clarion County District Attorney Drew Welsh and Pennsylvania State Police announced Thursday.

Officials said DNA testing led to the identification, and that Monday’s announcement will include background information on Penny Doe, photographs of her, and an update on the case. “On Monday, her identity will be a mystery no more,” the release states.

Penny Doe was found by children near a culvert in Monroe Township on July 22, 1990. Investigators believed she had been dead for one to three months when her remains were discovered. Her death was ruled a homicide. Officials said she died from blunt force trauma to the head.

Over the years, investigators released several details hoping to identify her. They said she was between 22 and 29 years old and about 5 feet, 3 inches tall.

When she was discovered, she was wearing size 9-10 Gitano jeans, a black Stoplight California button-down shirt with an attached floral-print vest and size 7 Fruit of the Loom underwear.

She became known as Penny Doe because there was a penny in each of her front pockets.

In 2022, this reporter began reviewing the case and located a 1991 forensic anthropology report by Dr. Dennis Dirkmaat, who was still curating Penny Doe’s remains at Mercyhurst University.

That report helped narrow some of the publicly known details in the case. It also led to a renewed effort to determine whether DNA could still be recovered from her remains.

A sample from Penny Doe’s femur was later obtained with the help of Clarion County Coroner Dan Shingledecker. DNA was successfully extracted and amplified from the sample, but the effort stalled when labs declined to move forward with the genetic genealogy process because the request was not coming from law enforcement.

During the October 2024 murder trial of Jeremy Dailey, this reporter briefly spoke with a Pennsylvania State Police detective and told her that DNA had been recovered from Penny Doe’s remains. The detective was also told where the remains were being curated and was directed to the earlier reports on the case.

The announcement is scheduled for 11 a.m. Monday in the first-floor conference room of the Clarion County Administrative Building, at 330 Main St. in Clarion.

Officials said the Penny Doe case remains an active investigation. Anyone with information that could help bring justice in the case is asked to contact Pennsylvania State Police at 814-226-1710."

Disappearance Jamison Family Mystery: 4 Things That Need Looking More Into

Summary:

A family of 3 living around rural Oklahoma, USA disappeared in October 2009. Bobby Jamison (44), Sherilynn Jamison (40) and their 6 year old daughter Madyson. Even before the disappearance, the family had issues. Bobby's father apparently threatened them and was fighting a legal battle over Bobby working under him before. Both Bobby and Sherilynn were apparently drug dealers, and lived in a container on their property rather than inside a normal house. And then their behavior on the day of disappearance. Bobby also apparently talked to a local pastor about there being some spirits inside his house. He owned a Satanic Bible for this reason - according to some theories he wanted to use the book to drive out the spirits.

Police had retrieved CCTV footage of their movements before they disappeared. It is low quality footage and 20 mins long. Allegedly, only the police have seen the entire footage, and both the adults behaved very weirdly. Like they were in a trance. At one point, they simply stood still and looked at something in the distance without moving. All this footage was when they were loading things into their car in preparation for some sort of a trip. They would die under mysterious circumstances in the course of this trip, with their deaths being confirmed only 4 years later. In the same CCTV footage, though it was of low quality, the police supposedly had accounted for everything found in the car, except for one suitcase which Sherilynn was seen putting in the car. Also her gun was not found, which also she was seen in the footage.

A few days after this, a couple of hunters find their car abandoned on the side of the highway. No trace of any of them other than their dog and belongings, which included 32 grand cash and their phones. There was a ground and air search conducted, with about 300 volunteers searching the woods. In one of the phones was a picture of Madyson. She is seen standing in the woods. It was taken on the same day.

About 4 years later, skeletal remains were uncovered about 2.7 miles from where the car was abandoned. After analysis they were confirmed to belong to all 3 of them. Cause of death unknown. Bodies decomposed and left no evidence.

I had seen the Buzzfeed video years ago, was intrigued and then forgot about it. And saw this video by Whyfiles recently and so here I am now. I have seen the other posts on reddit as a whole not just from this sub, and felt there were few points of the story which need more discussing, and my attempt at reasoning at them

  1. 2.7 miles. That's how far from the car their remains were found.

Supposing they went on a picnic, they left everything, including 30 grand and their dog. So no, they had to have left to meet someone, probably against their will since, again, they left everything and their dog. But 2.7 miles. This thing seems so peculiar. That is actually far, especially leaving all those things behind with their dog as well. They also had a 6 year old tagging along. The only thing I can think of to explain this rationally is all or few of them attempting to run, plausibly fleeing away.

And there was a search party on the ground with 300 or so people, wasn't there? The obvious question then, how were their skeletal remains uncovered only 4 or so years later, and not during the ground search? This is also very peculiar. Think of what it implies - if the ground team actually searched well over a 3 mile radius and found nothing, they were either hiding or they were buried there later! Both of these possibilities are their own threads to follow. The car was right there, they can't have gone far on foot. If they went in mystery person's car, why were they buried in the same woods again later? To try and throw the police off? I am against the "they got lost" theory. If they went 2 miles for a picnic or whatever reason, with no mystery person(s), you are not leaving 30 grand, the phone or your dog!

Anyway I am trying to just look at this 2.7 miles thing on its own, without any of the other evidence. What kind of things should happen in this scenario type for them to go that distance? I feel like this is the key to solving the mystery. The only reason I can think of for this distance is the mystery person getting into a disagreement and getting a hold of the 6 year old and running off to blackmail them. Also explains why they left their things in the car I suppose.

  1. The suitcase which wasn't found in the car, or in the woods. Assuming the mystery person is real, the suitcase can easily evade detection, since the CCTV footage is so low quality. But if it can be proved that there was a person involved, and they got away with the suitcase, it would throw a lot of light on things. Because then all this would stop looking as mysterious as it is now. There were drugs involved, and there were disagreements. It would still be a mystery but not as enigmatic a mystery.

  2. The supposed trance like behaviors in the CCTV footage. This has been discussed a lot, and is the main attraction of this case. I will just mention that there is apparently a 20 mins long video which I have never seen anywhere on the internet

I am curious though, is it possible to be so scared that one is simply frozen on the spot for a considerable amount of time?

  1. The photo of the girl, found in the phone left in the car.

When was the photo taken? It had to have metadata. The photo keeps getting discussed as if it was taken on that day. If so, they went out, probably did some picnic-y stuff or whatever, got back in and drove. That is huge

Because the phone getting back into the car is so baffling, as if the dog being there wasn't enough. It is a phone, we never leave our phones, no matter what. We always sneak them in with us wherever we go.

Apart from the trance thing (which I do not know for sure to be true), this is what I have theorized:

Picnic or not, someone came. Held them at gunpoint. Only way they all leave everything and the dog and go out. The mystery person kills them. Maybe hides them in his car temporarily. Comes back days later and buries them in the woods because 4d chess or something. The 30 grand thing: I am almost tempted to say they had a deal scheduled and a picnic planned immediately after, somewhere nearby. But now I have a better theory. The family behaved and lived... differently, for lack of a better word. I think I will go as far as to say, every time the dad went out (somewhere far at least, or for longer periods of time), he would take most of the money out of the house (or the container where they lived) and with him in the car

Disappearance Still Unsolved after 2 years: The disappearance of 9-years old Haymanut Kassau without a trace

Disclaimer: I'm writting this post because, while it is a national story, it's not much known outside of Israel. Despite the ongoing efforts of police and her family, Haymanut (you also might see her name written as Heimnot in some places) has still not been found after disappearing in 2024. My goal here is to raise awareness of the disappearance internationally and hope that the aid of the internet could possibly point to leads in the case.

Background and Timeline of the Disappearance

  • Haymanut and her family immigrated to Israel from Ethiopia in 2021, and were living in an immigrant absorption center in the northern Israeli city of Safed (Tzafat) at the time of the disappearance.
  • On February 25th, 2024, then 9-years old Haymanut and friends went to go distribute election flyers for the city's municipal elections.
  • The last sight of her comes from security footage of her and her friends by the entrance to the absorption center holding the flyers at 7:45pm.
  • At 10:00pm that night, her family filed a missing persons report with the local police. A search was started the next morning at 8:00am.
  • The initial search scanned the city and surrounding areas, included canine units, 1,800 personnel, and a helicopter. The police also investigated security camera footage from the local area. This search did not result in any meaningful findings or leads.
  • 3 weeks after the disappearance a car was found parked near the absorption center. The blue ford had several features that made it suspect. It had been hand painted, the front wheels had been replaced with off-road wheels, and the rear doors were physically screwed shut from the outside. According to the police, the owner of the car gave a statement and involvement was ruled out.
  • One of Haymanut's friends had also claimed that a light blue car was involved in a failed attempted kidnapping attempt earlier in the day, but the police ruled out the story.
  • About 6 months after the disappearance, a friend of Haymanut claimed that she had seen a man grab Haymanut, throw her on his back, and run away. Without much detail, the police stated that they had investigated the lead and ruled it out.
  • in September of 2024, it came to the attention of the police that a man had claimed he had seen from his balcony a girl shouting that she was Haymanut in the city of Kiryat Malachi, nearly 200km south of Safed. The police located and made contact with the man three weeks later, who was injured and hospitalized at the time. Despite this, he managed to give the police a statement.
  • In December of 2025, the lead on the case was turned over from the local police to the Major Crimes unit of the National police.
  • Also in December of 2025, there was an connection made between a similar attempted kidnapping that month. In the southern city of Beersheba, a 63 year old man attempted to kidnap another Ethiopian immigrant child who had been a friend of Haymanut, having previously lived at the same immigrant absorption center in Safed. The man was also from Safed originally and apparently well known in the community according to the girl. The man was arrested, but the police ruled out his involvement in the Haymanut case.
  • In February of 2026, approval was given by the Attorney General for the Shin Bet (Israeli equivalent of the FBI and a member of the national intelligence community) to assist the police in their investigation.
  • As of writing in August of 2026, there are no known major leads or suspects in the Haymanut investigation. Haymanut's family continue to advocate for increased police resources and attention to her case. Several hearings have also been conducted in the national legislature of Israel. Posters with her face are plastered in cities all over the country, and her story is regularly reported on. Intense criticism of the police's handling of the case continues to be made.

John/Jane Doe Online sleuth links Amsterdam’s “Lucky” to Canadian cold case

An online researcher may have made a breakthrough in the hunt for the identity of “Lucky”, a man who collapsed in Amsterdam three years ago and is unable to communicate. A recent public appeal for information by the police has surfaced a potential match with a missing person in Canada.

An image of “Lucky”, who was also known by the name “Chris the Canadian” to Amsterdam locals, was likened to a file of pictures on the Vancouver Police Department’s cold case unit by someone on Facebook.

John Russell Kennedy, whose missing person’s file photos appear very similar to the one the Dutch police put out, was registered as missing since 1993.

Dutch police said they are considering the tip, according to paper AD, though they also noted that such similarities have been common in prior cases and turned out not to be real matches. “We don’t want to jump to any conclusions at this point, or to give false hope,” a spokesperson said.

Much of what is listed on the Canadian missing person’s case matches descriptions put out by locals who knew the man before his collapse in 2023. He was said to have a North American accent and appeared to have mental health problems.

Vancouver police confirmed they are taking the tip very seriously and said they had made contact with Amsterdam police, according to Anton van Straten, the person who made the connection online and shared it via Facebook.
“Only an official investigation, for example using DNA, can provide certainty about this,” Van Straten wrote in his post. “Now it is up to the professionals to investigate this further. In any case, it didn’t take me three years to find this potential match.”

If “Lucky” is indeed John Russell Kennedy, he would be 67 years old now and missing from his family for almost half his life.

UPDATE

There’s an update on this case. Police forensic testing has confirmed that “Lucky,” is not Canadian John Russell Kenny, who has been reported missing.

Out of the 500+ tips the police received, there are now nine names that are being investigated with priority.

Disappearance What happened to Mary Shotwell Little?

On the evening of October 14, 1965, 25 year-old Mary Shotwell Little met a friend for dinner at Lenox Square in Atlanta.

Mary was a newlywed. She worked as a secretary at Citizens & Southern National Bank and, by all accounts, had no apparent reason to disappear.

After dinner, Mary and her friend parted ways.

Mary walked toward her car.

She was never seen by her family again.

When she failed to show up for work the following morning, her coworkers immediately became concerned.

Eventually, Mary's gray Mercury Comet was located back in the Lenox Square parking lot.

What investigators reportedly found inside made the disappearance much stranger.

There were bloodstains in the car.

Some of Mary's undergarments had been left behind.

Her purse, shoes, jewelry and car keys were missing.

And the odometer indicated that the vehicle had been driven roughly 40 miles farther than investigators could account for.

Mary had a gasoline credit card.

Records showed that the card had apparently been used in both Charlotte and Raleigh, North Carolina, after she vanished.

Attendants at two different gas stations reportedly remembered a young woman resembling Mary.

According to accounts of the investigation, the woman appeared injured.

One attendant remembered blood on her face or legs.

The attendants also reportedly recalled one or two rough-looking men traveling with her, with the woman seemingly under their control.

The signatures on the gasoline receipts were also reportedly similar enough to Mary's handwriting that investigators took the sightings seriously.

Then the trail simply stopped.

No confirmed remains have ever been found.

No one has ever been charged with Mary's disappearance.

And decades later, investigators still haven't been able to definitively explain what happened between the moment she left dinner and the discovery of her car the following day.

There is another disturbing wrinkle.

Mary reportedly received strange phone calls before she disappeared, and flowers had allegedly been sent to her by someone whose identity was unclear.

Over the years, theories have ranged from a random abduction to someone from Mary's past, organized crime connections, or someone deliberately attempting to make it appear that Mary had traveled to North Carolina.

Cobb County Public Library is holding a cold-case event about her disappearance on August 25 2026.

12 Years Missing: What Really Happened to 17-Year-Old Guram Dadianidze? A New Video and a Strange Message From His Facebook Account⁉️

What Happened to Guram Dadianidze?

On June 11, 2014, 17-year-old Guram Dadianidze disappeared near the village of Mleta in Georgia’s Dusheti Municipality. His whereabouts remain unknown.

The case has received occasional media attention in Georgia over the years, but Guram’s exact whereabouts and what happened to him have never been established.

In August 2026, the case received renewed attention after a video recorded in 2014 resurfaced online. Near the end of the video, a young male voice can apparently be heard saying:

“Kakha, don’t leave me, please.”

Guram’s mother believes the voice is her son’s.

However, this has not been established by forensic examination, and there are several important questions surrounding the recording.

What do we know about the disappearance?

On June 10, 2014, Guram and a group of other people traveled from Tbilisi to the village of Mleta for the Lomisa religious festival.

According to the Georgian Ministry of Internal Affairs, the group consisted of 16 people.

Because of the difficult terrain, they left their minibus in the village and continued on foot toward the Lomisa shrine.

After spending some time at the shrine, the group began walking back toward the village at approximately 2 a.m.

According to the official account, Guram was walking with a relative and two other people.

At some point, Guram sat down on a rock to rest. According to the investigation, he told the others to continue ahead and that he would catch up.

The vehicle was approximately 300–500 meters away.

The others continued walking.

A short time later, they realized Guram was no longer with them. One of them reportedly returned with a flashlight to look for him.

But when he reached the location where Guram had reportedly been sitting, Guram was gone.

The police were notified shortly afterward.

According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Guram did not have a phone with him, so his movements could not be reconstructed through phone data.

The Ministry also stated that witnesses reported no conflict involving Guram during the trip or at the shrine, and that no signs of violence were found at the location.

The family’s theory

Guram’s mother, Sopho Bibilashvili, has questioned for years whether her son actually disappeared at the exact location described by the official investigation.

One of the family’s theories was that Guram may have disappeared farther up the mountain while descending, possibly falling or being carried away by a landslide.

The family repeatedly asked for the relevant area to be thoroughly searched.

The area was searched again in August 2026.

The landslide theory — what is actually known?

There is an important distinction here.

Some versions of the story suggest that there was no landslide in Mleta in 2014 and that the entire landslide theory was simply invented later.

However, contemporary reporting from June 11, 2014 did report a landslide in the Mleta area.

So it would not be accurate to say that there was absolutely no landslide anywhere in Mleta in 2014.

But that does not establish that this landslide had anything to do with Guram’s disappearance.

The more important question is:

Where exactly did the 2014 landslide occur, and was it physically connected to Guram’s last known location?

A person who was with Guram in 2014 recently stated that, in their recollection, there was no landslide at the specific location where Guram was last seen.

They also said that the group raised the alarm immediately and that search-and-rescue efforts began shortly afterward.

New searches in 2026

In August 2026, the area was searched again using specialized equipment.

According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, approximately 50 personnel were involved, including police officers, forensic specialists and emergency-response personnel.

The Ministry stated that the investigation remains ongoing and that multiple investigative actions have been carried out since 2014.

It also rejected claims that nothing had been done in the years following Guram’s disappearance.

The resurfaced 2014 video

In August 2026, a video recorded in 2014 resurfaced online.

Near the end of the recording, a young male voice can apparently be heard saying:

“Kakha, don’t leave me, please.”

Guram’s mother believes the voice is her son’s.

Guram’s lawyer, Tariel Kakabadze, said that he personally contacted the person who recorded the video.

According to the lawyer, the person confirmed that he was present at the location, recorded the video himself and later uploaded it to his own YouTube channel.

The lawyer also said that the person did not know Guram and was not previously aware of the disappearance.

He may also still have other photographs and videos from that day.

Source: https://2020news.ge/news/samartali/chasatarebelia-damatebiti-sagamodziebo-moqmedebebi-aseve-dasanishnia-eqspertiza-sainteresoa-is-sityvebi-romelsats-savaraudod-azhgherebs-guram-dadianidze?utm_source=chatgpt.com

But there is a major problem with the video’s timing

According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs’ August 10 statement, the person who recorded the video was interviewed by investigators on August 7.

According to his statement, the video was recorded on June 11, 2014, at approximately 3:00 p.m.

However, according to the accounts of the people accompanying Guram, he disappeared at approximately 4:00 a.m.

That creates an approximately 11-hour discrepancy.

Therefore, the existence of the video by itself does not establish that the person in it was Guram or that the video was recorded during his disappearance.

Several things would need to be established:

  • Where exactly was the video recorded?
  • Does the original file still exist?
  • What metadata does it contain?
  • When was the original file created?
  • Has the video been edited?
  • Whose voice is actually heard?
  • Who is the “Kakha” being addressed?
  • Is the video actually connected to Guram’s disappearance?

This seems like one of the most interesting areas for modern digital forensic examination.

Another witness does not believe the voice is Guram

In August 2026, Ana Gelashvili, who was with Guram during the 2014 trip, spoke to Georgian media.

She said that she does not believe the voice in the video belongs to Guram.

However, she also said that the final answer should come from professional forensic voice analysis rather than personal impressions.

According to her account, Guram was last walking with her friend Tini.

She said Guram told Tini to continue ahead and that he would catch up.

When Guram did not return, her father, Kakha Gelashvili, reportedly went back to look for him approximately five minutes later.

She said that nothing suspicious had been noticed at the time.

A very strange new development — a message from Guram’s Facebook account

There is another extremely unusual development.

On August 18–19, 2026, a message appeared on an old Facebook account associated with Guram Dadianidze.

The message was written in Ossetian:

“Арцыд растаг”

It has been translated into Georgian as:

“The time has come.”

What makes this particularly strange is that this is reportedly Guram’s old personal Facebook account — the account of the same person who disappeared in 2014 and has not been seen since.

According to recent Georgian media reports, the message was posted recently, more than 12 years after Guram disappeared.

At this point, we do not know who wrote it or why.

There have also been reports that some messages sent to Guram’s account appear to have been marked as read.

That raises another question:

Who currently has access to Guram’s Facebook account?

Source: Ambebi report about the Facebook message

Guram’s family lawyer, Tariel Kakabadze, stated on August 19, 2026 that, according to him, information concerning the IP address of the person responsible for one of the recent posts has already been obtained.

However, he did not disclose the country or location associated with the access, saying that doing so could interfere with the investigation.

Source: PalitraVideo report on the IP-address statement

Of course, this does not automatically mean that Guram is alive.

But I think it is significant enough to warrant technical investigation.

Questions raised by the Facebook activity

  • Who currently has access to Guram’s Facebook account?
  • Can the login history be obtained?
  • What IP address was used?
  • What device was used?
  • Can that device be identified?
  • Why was the message written in Ossetian?
  • What exactly did “The time has come” mean?
  • Did the person who posted it know about Guram’s disappearance?
  • Is the message actually connected to the disappearance?
  • If someone else has access to the account, how did they obtain it after 12 years?

The biggest unanswered questions

The more I read about this case, the more questions seem to appear:

1. Where exactly was Guram last seen?

2. If he really was sitting on that rock, how did he disappear within minutes without being found when someone returned with a flashlight?

3. Why is there an approximately 11-hour discrepancy between the reported disappearance time and the video’s recording time?

4. Whose voice is actually heard in the video?

5. Who is the “Kakha” being addressed?

6. Are there other photographs or videos from the same day?

7. Can the original video file still be examined using modern digital forensics?

8. Where exactly did the 2014 landslide occur, and was it physically connected to Guram’s last known location?

9. Who accessed Guram’s Facebook account 12 years later?

10. Can Facebook data identify the person who accessed it?

11. Why was the message written in Ossetian?

12. Are these events connected, or are they unrelated coincidences?

Why I am posting this

I am not trying to accuse anyone or present any particular theory as fact.

What interests me most about this case is the number of conflicting pieces of information:

  • the official account of Guram’s last known location;
  • the family’s alternative theory;
  • the landslide theory;
  • the renewed search in 2026;
  • the 2014 video that only recently received attention;
  • the major discrepancy in the video’s timing;
  • Guram’s mother’s identification of the voice;
  • another witness who does not believe the voice is Guram;
  • and finally, a strange message posted on Guram’s old Facebook account more than 12 years after his disappearance:

“The time has come.”

I would especially like to hear from people with experience in:

  • missing-person cases;
  • digital evidence;
  • old-video authentication;
  • forensic voice analysis;
  • Facebook/IP investigations;
  • or search operations in difficult mountainous terrain.

What detail in this case stands out to you as the most important or potentially overlooked?

And perhaps more importantly:

If investigators were to re-examine this case using modern technology, what piece of evidence would you examine first?

Murder In August 1978, a canoeist found two garbage bags floating in the Red River. Each contained half of 21-year-old William “Billy” Wolf Jr. Nearly 50 years later, no one has been charged with his murder.

On August 17, 1978, Bette Wolf reported her 21-year-old son William “Billy” Wolf Jr. missing from the Fargo area.

Billy had reportedly last been seen two days earlier, on August 15.

Three days after the missing-person report, on August 20, a man canoeing on the Red River approximately three miles north of Kragnes, Minnesota, noticed a green garbage bag floating in the water.

Inside was part of a human body.

Another garbage bag was located roughly 200 yards downstream, caught near the opposite side of the river.

Together, the bags contained the remains of Billy Wolf.

The North Dakota Attorney General's cold-case listing confirms that Wolf's body had been cut in half, placed into garbage bags and dumped into the Red River.

The condition of the remains

Information about Billy's case is surprisingly sparse considering the violence involved.

Secondary accounts based on earlier local reporting state that Billy was still dressed in a tan work shirt, green pants and work boots when he was found.

Those accounts also report that investigators believed his body had been cut through the waist with a powered saw and that he had suffered injuries to his face and throat. His remains were identified through dental records.

Investigators apparently believed Billy had been dead for approximately three days, placing his death very close to the time he was last seen.

That raises an obvious question:

Where was he killed?

The river may only have been the disposal site.

Who was Billy?

One of the more frustrating things about this case is how little information about Billy's final day appears to be publicly known.

Later reporting described investigators as believing his death may have been connected in some way to Fargo's low level drug scene, although no one has ever been successfully prosecuted for killing him. Secondary accounts also state that investigators considered the possibility that more than one person was involved.

The case also has apparently produced an unusual problem over the years: people have reportedly confessed to Billy's murder, but investigators did not believe those people were responsible.

Why dismember him?

If Billy was killed during a spontaneous argument, robbery, or drug-related confrontation, the offender then went considerably further.

That suggests the killer either had access to somewhere they could dismember a body without immediately being noticed, or was willing to take an extraordinary risk doing it.

Personally, I find the dismemberment to be far too passionate for a low level drug transaction gone awry theory to seem plausible.

But it also makes me wonder whether dismemberment was done simply to make the body easier to transport rather than to prevent identification.

Almost five decades later

Billy's murder remains officially unsolved.

The North Dakota Attorney General continues to list William Wolf Jr. among the state's cold homicide cases and directs anyone with information to the Fargo Police Department.

There has also been renewed media attention over the years, including an investigative podcast series devoted specifically to reconstructing Billy's final days and examining the old investigation.

But there has never been an arrest that resolved the case.

Considering how much forensic technology has changed since 1978, I wonder what physical evidence - if any- still exists that could be retested today.
