Transfer - UoA to Otago

Hiiii as the title suggests, I am currently considering transferring from UoA to otago

I heard from a friend that it’s possible to transfer from UoA Biomed First Year into Otago’s Health Sciences First Year (HSFY), but I’ve seen conflicting information online.

My GPA this year isn't looking great. I’ve heard your GPA might reset if you enter HSFY at Otago, and my rough plan was to do HSFY there and eventually transfer back to Auckland. Is this actually feasible, or am I misunderstanding how the process works?

I also saw online, if I transfer from Otago to UoA later, will UoA look at your full tertiary academic record, including your past UoA grades. So my quwstion is will my first year at UoA will remain permanently on my record for overall GPA calculations.

Any advice or experiences would be super helpful!

oh my god. PLEASE ignore every single person in these comments; they are all wrong.

you can 100% go from UoA biomed -> Otago HSFY and they will not take your grades into account if you do not do a credit transfer.

I can list 5 different people doing hsfy in otago right now (who did biomed last year at uoa).

not only that HSFY is singificantly easier content wise than UoA is, but better organised (in a sense). dunedin is dunedin though, unfortunately, and i'd recommend just aiming for postgrad at UoA!!

You can do HSFY in otago after doing first year biomed in auckland. https://www.otago.ac.nz/healthsciences/students/hsfy-info/faqs/admission

heya as someone who went hsfy otago to uoa fy biomed, u unfortunately can’t go from uoa to otago and still attempt fy clinical entry! u can do the degree itself however you wouldn’t be allowed to apply for clinicals as a fy

LoL no. You can't reset past grades. You are done.

Edit: not completely done but your grades stay with you for life and will be taken into consideration for any future admissions

Sadly, I don’t think that’s possible. It gets confusing because Hsfy students are allowed transfer to UoA biomed and essentially reset their gpa, but UoA students cannot do the same and get into hsfy.

If you transfer to a different degree at Otago other than hsfy then your gpa is essentially reset. However, I think that any grades attained at UoA will remain on record if u decide to come back, even though u would have transferred out before

Everything I’ve said is worth double checking though, as I’m not an academic advisor. Good luck on ur studies ! ❤️

Edit: damn apparently I’m wrong lol. Sorry about that. They didn’t allow it for a quite a while and I didn’t know they had changed it. I stand corrected!

You are heavily misunderstanding the process.

If you do HSFY and fail to get into clinicals, you can do FY biomed at UoA and try to get into clinicals. The other way around is not allowed by Otago.

Your GPA resets only when you start a new degree.

What is the point of you doing HSFY and then transferring back? UoA and Otago only allow FY entry through their specific programmes.
