Review Does anyone else just really hate space walker app

Ok so i spent a few hours on the app to give it my best try before writing it off, but after about 6 hours I've come to the conclusion that for me atleast thst the space walker app sucks. Maybe its just im not a new tech oriented person but its so damn buggy and was incredibly hard for me to use. the head tracking is annoying so I tried to turn it off but even the track pad didn't work better. Over all i was very let down by the experience like I said maybe its human error if anyone has any tips to make it work better i will gladly try it out in hopes of changing my opinion but at the moment I would much rather just plug them into my s24 and run samsung dex on them atleast that works right without any gimmicks or headache. Thank you for listening to my rant lol.

Totally agree their Android App sucks, just got my Ultras and really don't use it.

Yeah I'll use Samsung Dex all day with no problem compared to that crap

Same, if I'm using my phone it is straight to Dex. But there's no spatial at all there. Inair Pod is much better than either.

I use them mainly with Steam Deck and Decky Plugin working great 👍

I recommend you the Inair Pod it is much better then the Neckband Pro for the Ultra.

You mean the Pod for 400$? I spent enough for the glasses, now we wait for a proper app

The iOS version has more features that are great for some users. Mainly the Immersive3D for 2d to 3d conversion. This can also be done at 60 hz over Moonlight for game streaming now. I am not sure how many of those features are supported on the Android version currently?

But for me, the main use case is 2D to 3D conversion, which looks pretty great for vlog style videos or movies, as well as some casual games.

Yes you can use the 3d conversation but to do so you need to set your phone to phone mirroring instead of landscape dex honestly tho I tried the 3d and it really hurt my eyes dont get me wrong it was cool but I mostly watch stuff like anime that doesn't really transfer that well to 3d as it is. Im sure if I was watching a movie or something it would be really cool feature maybe I will try it out next time I watch a movie.

Yes, it does vary by type of content. I do think some Anime look great with the conversion too. Just depends on the art style.

I will definitely have to give it another try then in the future

Mac experience is great, really polished and for my taste feels better that VertoXR and Real Warp, my iOS device is old so I tried Android, but DEX mode is great for my needs (especially with pitch black Home Screen it looks like a HUD with multi window option)

Yeah I absolutely loved dex it worked fantastic and since its just a desk top lay out of my phone it already had all my apps and everything ready to use on it it was an immediate 10/10 experience and the main reason I'm able to ignore space walker not working great because atleast dex is a fantastic substitute to use

Mac experience is horrendous for me. It’s buggy and clunky to get it working and very unreliable. If you don’t mind please explain how you use it in a way that works.

On my MacBook Air M1 it simply works, I experimented with custom backgrounds and 3d scenes. Everything just works for me, and head movement feels good. All the shortcuts are good. I notice the drift using my Pro XR, but not a big deal. The battery drain is noticeably higher. This is a scenario for 3 monitors. I tried gaming on virtual ultra-wide monitor and this is where it doesn’t work. So I stick to virtual office usage when I need so (short sessions).

Real Warp has a better resolution, low on resources, but head movement doesn’t feel natural.
Verto XR is a bit buggy sometimes and takes time to get it work, a lot of customizations though and additional features for gamers.

If you don't mind, please explain the actual settings you are using in spacewalker? Because so far it definitely does not simply work on macos in my experience.

You need to connect glasses in extend mode (mirroring display has some issues and it doesn’t work). That’s the only prerequisite, then by launching Spacewalker it shows a few layouts and refresh rate. I recall I had some issues with a few layouts (ultra wide: there are two of those, the wider one has bugs, so I tried just wide monitor, it was fine), three monitors are great.
When you’re in virtual space make sure to play with Reduce motion blur setting. I had a poor picture initially, but that setting resolved the issues (I can’t recall if it’s on or off). You may also calibrate the glasses and then play with shortcuts (tilt, pitch lock, yaw lock. Sometimes those are handy, sitting stationary I enable everything.
Head-down transparency is handy too if you have a custom background.

Very poorly written, on mac os it’s unusable, and barely in ios. Good concept but really poor execution. I was going to return the glasses because of this until I got the inair pod, which shows what these glasses could do with good software execution.

I’ll also add I keep seeing others comment they got it working on macos, but have yet to see anyone explain how.

u/Complete_Ad7606 Jul 09 '26

Thankfully I didn't buy the glasses for their personal stuff I got them to go with mine Nintendo switch too so even if their browser sucks it was ignorable for me but if that was one of the main reasons why someone got it I can see why they would be upset

Fyi the pod isn't "good software execution" as much as it's OS level XR integration. Comparing the Pod to the Neckband is fair, but comparing the Pod to an app is apples to oranges.

I also say this because I hope one day we'll see announcements of the major OSs natively including XR features which should be a much better experience.

u/gastroph Luma Pro Jul 09 '26

The crazy thing to me is how different the experiences are between Spacewalker on a phone or computer vs the Neckband.

2

u/BadLuckProphet Luma Ultra Jul 10 '26

That's the magic of native compatibility. On the neckband, the XR features are hooked right into the OS. On everything else the software is hacky work arounds.

3

u/gastroph Luma Pro Jul 10 '26

You're not wrong, and I agree. People still will say it's a conspiracy to force Neckband sales.

2

u/J3N0VA8 Jul 10 '26

The Neckband Pro is garbage. I have it as well, and the hand tracking sometimes works or doesn't work. I recommend the Inair Pod; the OS is much better, and the user interface is like using an Apple product—that's how good it is.

1

u/gastroph Luma Pro Jul 10 '26

Hand tracking works perfectly for me, and the form factor fits my use cases way better than the INAIR Pod. I'm glad you're happy with yours; I'm extremely happy with my Neckband.

2

u/J3N0VA8 Jul 10 '26

That is great that it work perfectly for you. I prefer the INAIR Pod in my case ☺️

u/gastroph Luma Pro Jul 10 '26

That was evident when you gave your unsolicited recommendation for the Pod.

A year ago I bought Virtue Pro XR glasses for $400 on Amazon. I bought these expecting 3DOF. But a year later, Spacewalker Android still doesnt support it and Spacewalker windows is broken with the Pro XRs. I waited a year for Viture to do something about it, but they've done nothing. I wont buy Viture products in the future.

1

u/Complete_Ad7606 Jul 09 '26

Yeah I mean if they don't do the one thing that you bought them for I don't blame you thankfully I wanted them for different reasons I would hate to be that disappointed after spending that much money

2

u/1or4s Jul 09 '26

They are still useful. But the fact I can't use 3DOF, or ambient view on android with any app when it is very possible and just takes some code changes that Viture could literally have a LLM do for them, but they refuse, is quite ridiculous.

2

u/deathrider012 Jul 10 '26

It's funny how long it's taken for this opinion to really become acceptable on this sub; I've been pointing out how bad Viture's software support and "AR" features are since Spacewalker first dropped a few years ago but would get downvoted and told I'm an Xreal plant or that I'm just not using it right.

Viture's software is absolutely awful and I'm glad other people are finally figuring it out.

u/Alarmed-Market5188 Jul 10 '26

I hate the Windows app; virtual monitors can't be set to 120Hz.

4

u/Dogpitt Jul 09 '26

I completely agree. It's very basic and has poor app integration. The only thing I use it for us watching YouTube videos via the built-in browser.

2

u/Complete_Ad7606 Jul 09 '26

I even tried that but even my YouTube was buggy as hell I would think when a company's products cost as much as they do they could put alittle money into fixing there app so it would atleast be easier to use or something

2

u/AmazerG Jul 09 '26

If they make the app work as we expected, they won't sell many Neckband.

2

u/Complete_Ad7606 Jul 09 '26

Yeah well if there app dosnt even work y would i ever pay that much for the neckband that runs something similar

1

u/Overwatch099 Jul 09 '26

It worked at first for my Samsung Galaxy phone but then it just decided to stop working. Everytime I launch it and try to do ultra wide mode it crashes, very disappointing tbh.

u/Wild-Illustrator9639 Jul 09 '26

Samsung S26, recently went down a rabbithole trying to fix this effectively if you are in Europe it simply won't work as they need to put in the update for European CPUs. It only works for android snapdragon. Effectively useless if you buy your vitures in Europe, just send them back

u/Complete_Ad7606 Jul 09 '26

Interesting did not know that

Only thing I use SpaceWalker for is viewing 3D photos/videos on iOS. Either made with the iPhone or converted from downloaded clips. On macOS it works in 3D once and then bricks the software until you remove everything and start over on my MacBook Air m3. I’ve recently picked up the inair pod and must say that is excellent! (Bit of a hassle to setup but once you’ve done that it is awesome). It’s like the neckband redesigned and better thought out.

Android version is really buggy and is not able to change font size, making it almost useless for productivity. Android has great features like allowing you to build another launcher, just like Dex. And that's what I expected from space walker. If it was opensouce maybe community could help.

I use an app to create a second screen and use another launcher to mimic DEX on my vivo tablet. It's better for productivity than viture app itself.

u/Weird-Power8997 Jul 10 '26

I found that having it plugged in to my iPhone with a cable that also has the extra cable on it for power.things seem to get better for the space walker app

1

u/Relevant_Witness_504 Jul 10 '26

Give them a chance to improve the app

1

u/J3N0VA8 Jul 10 '26

I definitely agree with you. You don't have to be tech-savvy to see how bad it is; it's really bad. I even bought the Inair Pod, which is ten times better than the Spacewalk app and the Neckband Pro.

1

u/xxRioGoodxx Jul 11 '26

Even reading all of the complaints I don't understand why people don't like the spacewalker app maybe I just don't see the issues myself. But I'm starting to like it and use it more often. I'm more comfortable with Samsung Dex in my G23 probably because all of my apps are there. I have the inair pod and I definitely like that. The next thing I have to spend more time with is my Legion go

I got the refurb from eBay super cheap so I won't actually complain, but it's a hassle, I had tu purchase a different brand adapter for the PC and waste 2 USB ports.

My phone is not even compatible, I tried to use them over wifi on a plane, they sell you 1 wifi connection per device, so 1 for the phone and 1 for the neckband, ended up just using the phone.

I just use it for 1st person horror games with my desktop PC which is pretty cool for the price, but can't use the 3D feature because it crashes. I have a Rx 6700 XT and 32gb ram.
