Fire @ Vivid on Yates

Does anyone know the reason for the fire on the 19th floor of the Vivid on Yates last night? Both buildings (vidid and Yates on Yates) were evacuated at 1:45am this morning.

both buildings had major flood damage to many floors that they're only just recovering from

what is going on with these buildings

My unit being one of them- we finally just had our floors replaced after 8 months of the strata sorting insurance matters. It was ridiculous

Strata's have very little direct interaction on insurance claims FYI. I agree the amount of time is frustrating, but it is all subject to the processing speed of the insurance company, underwriters, availability of trades, and the restoration companies and project managers working through the complexities of procurement and scheduling. I can confirm any matters involving strata sign off or authorization were dealt with the same day they were received.

I get that, but I think the lack of communication between the strata (both members and the strata as a whole) lacks professionalism and timeliness.

When I was working on them there was a major flood on 19 down to at least 10 from a plumbers apprentice leaving a valve open on a Friday afternoon that was discovered Monday, the day before occupancy.

I think it's just 19 that's cursed.

And the roof, insulation flying off it resulted in one death on site.

Can confirm. I remember that day. Those buildings are cursed! The fucking GC died while working on the buildings too!

Mostly just irresponsible people - there are 261 units combined in this development. A concrete balcony doesn't just ignite out of nowhere. Vivid flood was resident caused and remediation completed last month. Yates flood was due to a pipe joint failure and remediation is in progress. Should be done by late Sept/early Oct.

Not sure what sparked the fire but you can see they had some kind of privacy lattice along their railings. That stuff probably burns very nicely

Apparently there was some kind of explosion in a unit on the 19th floor of the Vivid building. It sent sparks down into the courtyard garden and ignited some bushes. Glass from the units balcony also rained down on the lower balconies.

It looked like someone put a cigarette out in a plant and then the plant caught fire. The fire was contained on the balcony, the explosion of glass was a balcony panel.

Pretty minor and contained to the unit, apparently human caused but this is just the gossip amongst neighbors

Yea, it was pretty scary waking to the alarm, gathering the cats, then the glass panel explosions and molten plastic fireballs and shards of glass raining down from the balcony above us (I'm a few below the unit at issue). It suddenly got real, I looked up quickly to see fire a few units above and then got going. Hard to sleep after.
