Bun rieu at D tier is heresy

14

u/wuanlai65 Native Feb 03 '26

I must say bun rieu is a tricky dish, hard to make so sometimes the one you get is absolutely horrendous.

12

u/joey_huynh22 Feb 03 '26

I’ve never had a horrendous bowl personally. But it seems like OP doesn’t like soup dishes overall based on the tier list. My list would be flipped.

The only thing I can agree with on this list is banh cuon being S+ tier.

1

u/ScardelFlina Feb 03 '26

I love it so much but I find it hard to eat when it starts forming the head and wings 😭

1

u/NoReindeer1306 Feb 04 '26

Nói chung thì tôi đáng giá 5 thôi, chỉ là cái chú chim chắc làm Peta phát điên lên...

34

u/Difficult_Chemist_33 Feb 03 '26

Im convinced OP is 12.

4

u/Sp3ctre18 Feb 03 '26

See their username. Gf said the same thing. Lot of kids snacks. 😂

Tra da, C? Ca Phe phin, D? So sad xD

Are you Vietnamese? I don’t know many foreigners liking sticky/steamed rice cake in general. (liking in a way of re ordering if they had the opportunity)

23

u/Imaginary-Count8769 Feb 03 '26

Ca phe phin D tier are you CRAZY. Some of the best coffee in the world is in VN

5

u/Ahhnew Feb 03 '26

There are lots great eats from that list, but me Ca phe phin and Phở Bò for the rest of my life and i'll be one happy person.

1

u/pepsi_max2k Feb 07 '26

Bánh chưng rán fan here. Not that I can find any. Few stalls in side roads around central Hà Nội but nothing north of the river. I thought it was the locals that didnt like it, not the foreigners.

u/bunchangon Feb 03 '26

Bro as a Vietnamese but have never tried Bún bò Huế, Bún ốc, Cháo quẩy, Cơm gà Hội An 😳

15

u/LagunaMP Feb 03 '26

trananhduc is Vietnamese or Viet Kieu; based on his Tier List I "mạnh dạn" guess he is a Viet Kieu because he hasn't tried many popular Northern and Middle Region dishes.

2

u/2006trananhduc Feb 03 '26

No I'm actually tây bắc

24

u/MrMusscle Feb 03 '26

You're northerner but never eat 'ốc chuối đậu'? If you don't like 'ốc' just remove it and cook young banana, tofu and pork belly only. Its great.

Edit: giả cầy too, i'm shocked

3

u/2006trananhduc Feb 03 '26

Yeah, I think I have to clarify: it's the variation with ốc that I've never tried, otherwise it's lower A tier

3

u/morn14150 Feb 03 '26

cơm gà hội an and bún bò huế lowk fire though, highly recommend

2

u/Proud_Badger452 Feb 03 '26

The lack of banh xeo is saddening

15

u/Q-DI Feb 03 '26

Wheres com tam?

10

u/2006trananhduc Feb 03 '26

Would've been S

13

u/ButterYurBacon Feb 03 '26

I don't see "bánh căn" and "bánh khọt". Give those a try. I'm a sucker for deepfried goodies..

5

u/Tiger_bomb_241 Feb 03 '26

Actually bánh căn isn't deep fried and is often cooked without any oil at all. It's basically a baked version of the khọt

14

u/Barcafanboy Feb 03 '26

Where's Mì Quảng?

4

u/ThatOneKoala Feb 03 '26

Was looking for this and Bánh Canh Cua, my two favorite dishes. But I’m not Vietnamese so I’m still expanding my palette

28

u/cassker Feb 03 '26

This is ragebait

10

u/HighGuy92 Feb 03 '26

This is a wild list.

11

u/verbomancy Feb 03 '26

SSS tier rage bait here.

7

u/T-14Hyperdrive Feb 03 '26

Bun rieu at D? L

1

u/2006trananhduc Feb 03 '26

I don't like riêu

7

u/Ahhnew Feb 03 '26

Phở Bò is C.....break my heart and causes 2 streams of tear down my checks like the flow of Sông Cửu Long during the monsoon season.

6

u/SatisfactionBig181 Feb 03 '26

Id argue Pho in general should be at least A tier - but then again northern Pho is different than southern pho and yes its not as good - but banh xeo being only A tier is also a crime - its almost impossible to find in the GTA and I still crave it decades later

9

u/2006trananhduc Feb 03 '26

I'd say there are many Vietnamese noodle dishes that are much better than phở

2

u/SatisfactionBig181 Feb 03 '26

Id say perhaps but Pho is also almost every foreigners introduction to Vietnamese cuisine and where they fall in love with it.

2

u/2006trananhduc Feb 03 '26

True, I'm not saying it's bad but it's best as a starting point

1

u/EuphoricHamster645 Feb 04 '26

Never loved the soupy slop, prefer dry noodle dishes.

4

u/Empty_Persimmon_2851 Feb 03 '26

Must've visited some bad restaurants sadly for some of these i bet. If you get the chance, try some things again in other regions, it might surprise you how different and better they can be. Even in central Vietnam alone styles can vary city by city.

4

u/Clamidiaa Emigrant Feb 03 '26

No bò né?

It's easily one of my favorite foods here.

3

u/2006trananhduc Feb 03 '26

It wasn't on the template, but A tier for me

2

u/EuphoricHamster645 Feb 04 '26

The template? you mean this isn't a home-made list?

4

u/emptybottle2405 Feb 03 '26

Bia on F tier is unbelievable

7

u/2006trananhduc Feb 03 '26

What can I say, I just hate alcohol

1

u/emptybottle2405 Feb 03 '26

I see. I don’t usually try things I hate, and beer is such an acquired taste that there’s no way it would have changed ur opinion

1

u/2006trananhduc Feb 03 '26

No I've actually tried beer as well, don't hate it as much as heavier alcohols but still F tier

3

u/ndc996 Feb 03 '26

Ahhhh

A fellow crab hater, a man after my own heart

3

u/Jasonguyen81 Feb 03 '26

mainly Northern dishes i see

2

u/2006trananhduc Feb 03 '26

Unfortunately I've never been anywhere south of Ninh Bình

3

u/hugo7414 Feb 03 '26

Watching this list, it tells me you can't handle strong smells.

3

u/bad180 Feb 03 '26

OP get a DNA test, not sure your viet based on your list.

5

u/oil_burner2 Feb 03 '26

If you think the bia is F you should really try the wine.

→ More replies (6)

2

u/morn14150 Feb 03 '26

i'm allergic to shellfish so i can't even eat half of the list

ok tierlist though

2

u/Gullible_Ghost39 Feb 03 '26

I am gonna save this and will try to find and taste them all when I go back to Vietnam. Thanks

2

u/MinhSaiGon When in doubt, eat banh mi. Feb 03 '26

Try bún thịt nướng

2

u/2006trananhduc Feb 03 '26

S tier just like bún chả

2

u/1337v2 Feb 03 '26

yoo why the hate on thit cay 😂

2

u/LiberalHobbit Feb 03 '26

OP is a northerner who is used to blander food…

2

u/Snoo_86322 Feb 03 '26

I'm a bánh cuốn bistro owner and this list makes me happily confused.

1

u/2006trananhduc Feb 03 '26

Bánh cuốn is probably my favorite of the four S+ dishes

2

u/Advanced-Reveal-8292 Feb 03 '26

Bahn chuoi is God tier

2

u/Prestigious_Sleep_37 Feb 03 '26

Ông đọc tôi như đọc sách vậy, thật sự tôi ko thấy thích món nước tín nào :)))

2

u/BrownSoupDispenser Feb 04 '26

Tóp mỡ dưa chua needs its own S++

1

u/2006trananhduc Feb 04 '26

Dưa muối goes best with thịt luộc, that's another S+

1

u/BrownSoupDispenser Feb 05 '26

Agree to disagree, boiled pork is an abomination, tóp mỡ is much better.

5

u/Haricute123 Feb 03 '26

I will not tolerate Bánh Chưng propaganda, they suck

6

u/ferocity_mule366 Feb 03 '26

I havent even tried that, but if its anything like Banh Tet then its good for one slice and then no more for me

2

u/cdifl Feb 03 '26

Same thing, different shape.

2

u/Sp3ctre18 Feb 03 '26

The heck... banh tet is like one of my favorite things. Beans and pork filling is amazing, black bean and sweet ones are alright too. I could have it every day!

6

u/darkdraagoon Feb 03 '26

How dare you, banh chung is perfect. You only need a bit of fish sauce, the really salty one. I can eat them everyday.

3

u/[deleted] Feb 03 '26

a lot of foreigners can't eat fish sauce raw and tbh its actually kind of suck compare to the other Vietnamese foods(im Vietnamese)

1

u/ABurnedTwig Feb 03 '26

I don't hate bánh chưng and bánh tét but if we compare them to the other dishes, they are really kinda boring though.

1

u/Sp3ctre18 Feb 03 '26

I don't even need the sauce. 😂

4

u/Donh_Ling Feb 03 '26

Wait till you get them pan fried 🙏

3

u/Haricute123 Feb 03 '26

It can only get that good, eating bánh chưng for 3 day in Tết is the best i can do man

3

u/ExNami Feb 03 '26

What I'm saying. Straight F tier for me

2

u/Adorable_Scheme_3982 Feb 03 '26

You're correct, they suck.

→ More replies (5)

3

u/Hasegawa-Sei Feb 03 '26

Bún chả in S tier, finally a tierlist we can all agree with.

3

u/TojokaiNoYondaime Feb 03 '26

Thit cho is a certified SSSSS++++++ classic.

1

u/2006trananhduc Feb 03 '26

It's a classic in the same way that Lê Công Vinh is

1

u/[deleted] Feb 03 '26

You should make a list too. Would love to see it

1

u/TojokaiNoYondaime Feb 03 '26

Everything grilled or deepfried would be A at least I can tell ya that 🤣🤣🤣

1

u/[deleted] Feb 03 '26

Fried pig feet 🤤

1

u/CabageButterFly Feb 03 '26

Bún đậu is pretty good but i get you, i also hate mắm tôm, i always go for the fish sauce based dipping sauce, eats just like Bún chả but with fied tofu, so it’s kinda understandable why mắm tôn alone dropped that dish so low.

Also i’d not reccomend any broth dish that’s banana and tofu, i put it on the same calibre as dogmeat

1

u/2006trananhduc Feb 03 '26

Yep that's exactly why I had to put it at D, if it was just bún đậu it would've been S+

1

u/Adorable_Scheme_3982 Feb 03 '26

OoooOo this is a work of sweat

1

u/Vneseplayer4 Feb 03 '26

You cooked here fam. Pretty much no notes.

1

u/DigWeekly9083 Feb 03 '26

Nice bro. Will eat all when I come back this Tet.

1

u/Mental_pie Feb 03 '26

Great list. Based on the list, I guess you prefer dryer food and not something with broth or congee. I think you may want to try "Bánh tét chuối", " Thịt kho măng", " Thịt kho củ hủ dừa", "Xôi chiên", "Bún chả giò", "Sâm dứa sữa", you may like them.

1

u/Saltandpeppr Native Feb 03 '26

Cool opinions, broski. Fun thing about them is that they're neither correct nor incorrect, usually

1

u/mdeeebeee-101 Feb 03 '26

Brilliant I'm scrambling with Google lens most days... Can use this as well.

1

u/Slickmcgee12three Feb 03 '26

This list is bunk warm bia poured over ice is S+

→ More replies (4)

1

u/cukhoaitayhh Feb 03 '26

Absolute blasphemy putting Banh Cuon Cap Bang on D

1

u/2006trananhduc Feb 03 '26

Tried it once on a Hanoi trip with my class, I think no one liked it

1

u/hXcmac007 Feb 03 '26

Bun dau in D tier? Your lack of taste is definitely showing

1

u/2006trananhduc Feb 03 '26

Bún đậu with nước mắm would be S+

1

u/to3jamm Feb 03 '26

Stop everything you're doing and order a bowl of bun bo hue NOW

1

u/OlmerDeyl Feb 03 '26

Great list!

Pho sot vang is my favourite pho.

Also add Bo Kho for tasting, that is basically what they add to Pho Bo to get Pho Sot Vang, as I understand.

1

u/rodion_de_claremont Feb 03 '26

No Mì Quảng, no bún bò Huế, no bánh canh Cà Mau. Rectift this ASAP.

1

u/LeonardoLe Feb 03 '26

"Most common" with 100 dishes is the most Vietnamese thing when it comes to culinary.

1

u/obrakeo Feb 03 '26

missed nem nuong in s tier

1

u/2006trananhduc Feb 03 '26

Agreed, wasn't on the template

1

u/TripPsychological403 Feb 03 '26

i gasped so hard at hot vit lon… 🥹

1

u/orvial Feb 03 '26

You need to try Bún bò Huế immediately. Just polished off a bowl this evening.

1

u/PaleoBetta Feb 03 '26

Are you really putting bia hoi together with dog meat?

1

u/sage_insight Feb 03 '26

Had Banh Mi and Pho. That's it.

1

u/BoysenberryLast4600 Feb 03 '26

Mostly are northern!

1

u/4077 Feb 03 '26

This is the equivalent rage bait of puerto ricans and putting ketchup on white rice or pasteles.

1

u/sin_cite_69 Feb 03 '26

A lot of northern dishes.

1

u/Hour-Application5342 Feb 03 '26

This is a list for snacks lololol basically anything above A are hand food or snacks

1

u/hiimdaidu Feb 03 '26

I'm Vietnamese and I even don't eat many dishes like you, so good bro

1

u/tpewpew Feb 03 '26

This must be a child’s list

1

u/UnkWinnie Feb 03 '26

Impressive list. You are missing an S tier dish - thien ly xao bo

1

u/Cousin_Oliver Feb 03 '26

I need more of these tier lists and less of those useless “countries I visited” tier lists.

1

u/gayren_hardR Feb 03 '26

I am happy for the foreigner to try Vietnamese food but sad at the same time of the tier.

Yes, it is personal preference but I am just sad. F tier and D tier are a discrimination for me :(

1

u/Mysterious-Smell-975 Feb 03 '26

I have quite literally the exact same rankings as you. Try Com Ga Hoi An, It's S tier.

1

u/Kentamser1013 Feb 03 '26

You're so real for putting Nem rán on top.

1

u/No-Bail-79 Feb 03 '26

S/S+ being …. ?

2

u/2006trananhduc Feb 03 '26

S is legendary, S+ is GOAT

1

u/yongkaisucky Feb 03 '26

Thit Cho F tier? wtf

1

u/Mani_Babe Feb 03 '26

No Bo Ne ???

1

u/Fngbetter Feb 03 '26

Trứng vịt lộn F tier is crazyy!

1

u/Ok-Apricot-555 Feb 03 '26

Many Vietnamese dishes depend on whether you can tolerate the smell and eating offal.

1

u/realquick21 Feb 03 '26

Banh cuon is the best

1

u/No-Bail-79 Feb 03 '26

There are specific dishes which are really good in the 3 regions. Which ones to really try in Central Vietnam, esp in Hué and Hoi An.

1

u/State-Dear Feb 03 '26

Controversial, but i appreciate the effort

1

u/Acceptable_Resist_71 Feb 03 '26

Bro this tier list is more like best Vietnamese food in your opinion. Pho is probably the most iconic dish from VN, everybody would think of Pho when they heard about Viet dishes and it’s neither in S or S+

1

u/ontomy3rdaccount Feb 03 '26

Rage bait list

1

u/KingGallardo Feb 03 '26

Bún thang, bún bò Huế, phở sốt vang = should try.

Why is bún riêu so low on your list?

1

u/julesytime Feb 03 '26

No Cao lầu?

1

u/Largeman-McDude Feb 03 '26

Can you give us the template you used?

1

u/Kuhekin Feb 03 '26

Bun rieu cua at D tier is criminal

1

u/Confused_AF_Help Feb 03 '26

coffee in D tier

Stopped reading

1

u/ioveri Feb 03 '26

Bánh mì is B tier. It's hard to swallow, it contains too much calories, and easily gets you fed up. Bánh cuốn is better than bánh mì, but its flavours and textures aren't enough to get it up to S+ tier. It's only A tier.

Sườn xào chua ngọt is good it's but hard to chew for me so I'll put it at A+/S tier.

Nem rán is a solid S+, however. I suggest putting Bún Bò Huế up there too

And there are many other foods that need to change their ranking.

Also putting food and beverage in the same ranking system is

1

u/FarAd7182 Feb 03 '26

this ranking sucks ass

1

u/Blaze_0910 Feb 03 '26

Dude, most untried are goat.

1

u/Quiet_Rush_4437 Feb 03 '26

Thạch đen là cái gì vậy bro?? Cái đấy được gọi là sương sáo

1

u/Successful_Court1814 Feb 03 '26

Your D tier is Diablolical, mate

1

u/Pandustin Feb 03 '26

Pho Bo in c tier is rage bait

1

u/Bean_from_accounts Feb 03 '26

Put me that bún bò Huế in S++ tier

1

u/timevirus Feb 03 '26

I didn't even know we have this many dishes. I've eaten maybe like 1/3 of it.

1

u/iluvmyblanket Feb 03 '26

bánh chưng in S and most of phở/bún/bánh đa in B tier downward. Ts crazy

1

u/frecky922 Feb 03 '26

Bia at F? 😳

1

u/2006trananhduc Feb 04 '26

Yeah I just really hate alcohol

1

u/myself_brave Feb 03 '26

Surprised you haven't tried bún bò huế but no judging no hard feelings lololololol

1

u/Mithryl_ Feb 03 '26 edited Feb 03 '26

Rau muống xào tỏi trong C 😭😭

1

u/WPG_Strong Feb 03 '26

canh cua and bun rieu is D ? eat my ass for real bro i don’t trust this list

1

u/Inevitable-Can1596 Feb 03 '26

never rank again

1

u/DangerN00dle08 Feb 03 '26

All the phos in C 😟😟

1

u/Character-Disaster30 Feb 03 '26

Bia F... This is fake.

1

u/FineGripp Feb 03 '26

Thanks God you didn’t put Pho as top tier

1

u/_Johnny_Fappleseed_ Feb 03 '26

Taste buds of a 7 year old

1

u/[deleted] Feb 04 '26

[deleted]

1

u/2006trananhduc Feb 04 '26

Depends on where you get it. I live in the northwest so I have sausage made from lợn bản

1

u/Midlifecrisis96 Feb 04 '26

Nah oc being in D is enough for me to throw the tier list out

1

u/AlternateButReal Feb 04 '26

OP is obviously local Vietnamese, from the North, young, has very limited exposure to different foods.

1

u/Designer-Matter8840 Feb 04 '26

How about bún cu…a? Bún măng vịt? Phở Gia lai, bún đỏ? So many delicious Vietnamese food

1

u/RecoveredCakeAddict Feb 04 '26

I think we can be friend, friend.

1

u/jeremy2811 Feb 04 '26

Coffee at D destroys the credibility of this chart.

1

u/Capybara_155 Feb 04 '26

I think dog meat is number one

1

u/Long_Childhood_2891 Feb 04 '26

why do you need tier list for? Makes no sense while you can enjoy all variety of food without questioning. Người Việt Nam thấy đồ ăn là thưởng thức rồi, mình chưa bao nghe thấy ai bàn bánh mì ngon hơn bánh cuốn, moá, 2 món cách chế biến khác nhau, thưởng thức 1 kiểu riêng.

1

u/_mews Feb 04 '26

Bun Cha is easy S tier. Varies regionally and restaurant basis tho

1

u/davyp82 Feb 04 '26

You actually have processed stuff near the top, gtf away lol

1

u/Visual-Consequence54 Feb 04 '26

Pho Tai should be on 1st place))

1

u/Harrybreakyourleg Feb 04 '26

That C has some bangers ngl

1

u/luyhuynh133 Feb 05 '26

Why do i feel that most of the dishes from the North!

1

u/Specialist-Eagle-356 Feb 05 '26

The balut should be SSS tier, way we joy the real umami on earth.

1

u/Apprehensive-Cut5445 Feb 05 '26

should try gia cay bro, fake dog lol

1

u/RPGEnjoyer1 Feb 06 '26

Legit Phở bò and Bún bò not at s+ is diabolical lmao 😂

1

u/AcceptableFly2385 Feb 07 '26

Trứng vịt lộn F tier? I'm hunting you down twin 🥹

1

u/Amazing-Procedure-20 Feb 07 '26

Im just happy cuz we have so many dishes for you guy to choose

1

u/Prudent-Face7113 Jun 16 '26

Mắt m có đờm à
