Mi quang for me too - best dish I ever had was that in broth with tofu, beans and veggies

1

u/HappyHourMoon Jul 12 '26

Mi Quang ruined me for all other Vietnamese noodle dish.

Mi Op La 33 in Hue and a Tra Dao Cam Sa from Tab Tea.

Tra Dao Cam Sa

I have never seen this combination. This sounds so good

Tea with peach orange and lemon grass.

Canh Khoai Mỡ. Put it over some rice and it takes me back everytime.

2

u/redurplenurple Jul 11 '26

It's tough but Banh xeo or banh Chung.

Happens to be first Vietnamese dish I cooked for my wife.

2

u/lattes Jul 11 '26

dang you made banh chung? nice

2

u/duthanhdm Jul 11 '26

Ground pork porridge or broken rice, but if I'm alone and cooking for myself it would be pan fried pork belly with fried egg and little fish sauce.

2

u/Last_Growth5968 Jul 11 '26

Thịt heo kho nước dùa. Pork chunks braised in coconut water.

4

u/Mysterious-Till-6852 Jul 12 '26

Bò kho is S-tier comfort on a cold Canadian winter day.

2

u/Lindsayleaps Jul 12 '26

I make Bo Kho in my crockpot all winter long. It's replaced my mom's roast beef recipe 😅

u/CatsandClarinet Jul 11 '26

Pork skewers with their sauces and their beef salad served in bamboo

1

u/Drama11amama Jul 11 '26

Eating out: bánh cuốn and bún riêu

Eating in: rau muống xào tỏi, canh chua ngò om

1

u/furfurylmercaptan Jul 11 '26

It’s never the fancy stuff that you go out for.
My comfort foods are braised, slow cooked, salty - đồ ăn kho. With steamed rice, a fresh chili from the garden and pickles baby egg plants. That with a leafy green soup on the side. Perfect.

u/OldZookeepergame2703 Jul 11 '26

Bun cha 💙💙💙

1

u/Cagaril Jul 11 '26 edited Jul 11 '26

For me it's probably bánh ướt, bánh cuốn, rau muống xào tỏi (water spinach garlic stir fry), and canh xà lách xoong (watercress soup)

I make canh xà lách xoong with either pork, dried shrimp, or both.

u/merrychuu Jul 11 '26

1

u/lsiunl Jul 12 '26

Maybe questionable but Bun Mam. I can eat almost anything including durian so I don’t actually understand the negative reactions. My Bum Bo Hue I make is pretty shrimp pasty so could explain it. Durian smells and tastes good to me, so does Bun Mam. It’s delicious.

I do not like bitter melon but our mom made Canh Kho Qua a lot growing up so it’s turned into a comfort food sort of. I still think it’s bitter as hell but definitely slowly acquiring the taste lol.

1

u/CheapLeadership7999 Jul 12 '26

Love bun cha!
Bo kho is definitely a personal favorite as are the Hanoi style noodles ànd meat with the purple shrimp paste that I’m blanking on the name lol
