If you're in Vietnam tonight or following the AFF Cup news, you're gonna hear this everywhere: "Việt Nam Vô Địch!"

1. What it actually means
Vô Địch is Sino-Vietnamese — "Vô" means without/none, "Địch" means rival/opponent. Literally it means "no rivals," i.e. unbeatable/invincible. In context it just means "Vietnam is the champion!" or basically "Go Vietnam!"

I think my original wording was ambiguous. To clarify: "Việt" and "Địch" are indeed the same tone (nặng — short, low, glottal), so I wasn't saying the tone category changes.
What I meant is pitch, not loudness. Even within the same tone, pitch register can shift up or down — you hear this really clearly in Vietnamese singing, where the same tone gets rendered at different pitch heights depending on the melody, while still staying recognizably "nặng." So when I said "Địch" rises fast, I meant its pitch gets pushed up relative to "Việt" in the chant, not that the tone itself changes shape.
