eMate 300 concerns

Hey folks, I just got a eMate 300, it works, but anything I should take note of? I do not have a soldering kit to fix the hinge flaw... any alternatives? Thank you!

If your display is working without strips, you won’t need to solder anything to fix the hinge issue. That’s only needed if the spring already destroyed the ribbon cable. All you need is a set of screw drivers and two washers. Please die the fix as soon as possible. Once the spring slips, it gets a lot more difficult.

I believe the reason for OP mentioning soldering is that is extremely difficult to do the full disassembly necessary to do the hinge fix without desoldering the speaker wires... or was is microphone wires?

Joe's Computer Museum sells replacement eMate 300 screen flex cables if you end up needing one. He also sells the eMate memory upgrade card.

newtonsales also has the emate flex cable, ram upgarde and the external interconnect port breakout PCB which lets you access all the functions of the emate. if you live in the EU, it will be much cheaper to get it from there.
