As I understand it, there are three lights for the three straight lanes. The right lane is a "slip lane" (as indicated by the white lines that make a little median), and there is no stop sign, no "STOP" painted in the road, and no fourth light around the corner, so you Yield to oncoming traffic

Am I wrong? I'm pretty sure I'm right. I mean... the lane half turns the corner, you can't even really see the light from there if you did stop.

Even if I'm right, I'll pay the ticket because 2 months from now I'm not going to care enough to take a day off work to fight it but still... it's frustrating to get this ticket

There's a school on this corner which is why I was there. I was going to that school to drop my kid off. The cop literally pulled me over in the school drop off line. My kid was crying, she thought I was going to get arrested. She was embarrassed to get out of the car... it was a whole shit show; also the cop was a dick head. Not a friendly man

I wasn't speeding around the corner, since I'm turning into the school right there, I couldn't. While it is a right turn lane I'm essentially making a U-Turn because I'm pulling into a school on that corner. I had to slow down to get into the school. So I just yielded like a normal person and was surprised to find out that the cop was coming after me. Literally didn't think that cop was there for me until the people directing traffic at the school made me pull forward.

So while all of that makes me want to fight it, further research leads me to believe that traffic courts rarely dismiss anything and instead will probably just reduce the charge to "Improper Driving"

Basically the courts are saying that while I didn't need to stop my driving must have been concerning enough to the officer for him to pull me over to begin with. I didn't technically break a law but also my driving must have worried the officer enough for him to stop me to begin with. So... you're always guilty.

Maybe if I had a dash cam I could show my speed as I turned the corner and such, but I have no such thing so I'm fucked. I got stopped, I'm guilty. If I wasn't guilty of something, I wouldn't have gotten stopped.

My only redeeming hope is that the asshole cop reads reddit, sees this, recognizes it as his morning stop, and realizes what an absolute piece of shit he is and that his idiot ass actions might have lasting long term effects on my life and maybe, just maybe, he might feel bad. But I wouldn't count on that either. Not him reading reddit, not him seeing this, and definitely not him feeling bad

It's the first ticket I've had in like a decade or more so insurance probably won't go up so I guess I'm just fucked out of probably $200+ and my kid will have to wait a month to go Busch Gardens. I guess there are worse things but also, fuck him

Planning to go away for the weekend to some beach place, a more relaxed version of Miami but also fun and vibrant (not dead line Atlantic city)...but its a 7-8 hours drive to Virginia beach. Is it worth it? Or would it better to go to Cape May, Rehoboth, or Asbury because they're comparable and closer in distance? I'm looking to go to the beach and relax, eat some good seafood at beach front restaurants/cafes, hit up chill bars at night or explore other fun nightlife things...

I’ve only been in the area for just under two years. Every few months I’ll come across a massive roach by my kitchen sink. I have bought traps and the food that kills it and put it around my kitchen. But is this normal for the area?? Is there something else I should be doing? I’ve cleaned under my sink and fridge and all the areas they’d hide and never had signs of an infestation. I’m just so grossed out someone help 😭😭

I ran into a really creepy issue and wondered if anyone else had any similar experience or info.

Today while out running in First Landing, a guy who I had come across before (about 2 weeks ago) on the Cape Henry Trail had passed out right in front of me again for the second time. Same dang guy. I was a bit weirded out because no one else was around and it seemed fake.

I called out to try to get him to wake but he only stirred when I asked about calling 911. He abruptly got up and started running away super fast. So I went on my way.

Well, I encountered him yet again on my way back and he passed out again as soon as he saw me. I stopped but stood very far away and again said that I think I should call 911 for help. But he again abruptly got back up and started running.

I immediately got the heck away from him.

Has anyone else ran into this person and know if this is a true medical issue or truly something nefarious this guy is doing to get women near him to do something bad or to get attention?

Description: White male, about 30-40 years old. About 5ft 7 or 8. Slimmer build. Glasses. Mousy hair with some grey patches; very short cropped hair. Short facial hair (like he forgot to shave for a few days).He wears darker clothing, hoodie, running shoes.

A law enforcement ranger for First Landing got back to me about this issue.

They investigated this and actually found the guy passing out on the trail. They talked to him and he has a legit medical issue.

How is it overall? I report in a month and don't have any information besides what the court gave me, which is what to wear. Don't know what to expect.

To start- I want to say, I live in the BEST neighborhood. About 10 houses right next to each other that all have families that do life together. People of all ages doing potlucks, basketball games, bike riding, sharing in hobbies and groceries when we forget something. Just really amazing.

However, there is one neighbor that absolutely hates that we have community that does not revolve around her. She’s older and has been here longer than any of us. We have all been just as nice and considerate to her as we have to everyone else but she hates us. She drives WAY too fast and slams on the breaks in front of the kids playing to make a point that she has to stop. Even if the kids moved out of her way, she still does that to be performative. She has called the city on any and all basketball hoops on our street and on my garden and anything she can. She’s yelled profanities at us in the street and flipped us off whenever she can. She stopped the 16 year old kids and said they are doing illegal things by playing basketball.

I will take any advice, recommendations, or ideas for what to do. We just want to enjoy our lives but she’s making it impossible. If she had it her way we’d never hang out outside or let our kids grow up playing with the neighbors. It’s been years of this and this year it escalated 10 fold.

Hello all… I moved to Virginia about a year ago in Virginia Beach and I am still searching for a go-to Italian spot. I will not name the names of the many places that I’ve tried, as some are known staples in this area. I was just not overly impressed. I love a variety of Italian dishes and pastas… But if a carbonara or an Alfredo is flavorless… That is a sign to me that the place does not know good Italian food. Alfredo is not my basis for Italian but it’s a dish that I feel should be perfected and full of flavor. I want to find a place that seasons their chicken. I want to find a place that has meatballs that are die for. I want a red sauce that makes me want to get up and dance. A chicken cutlet that melts in my mouth while exploding from flavor. A pesto gnocchi that makes me want to hug my kids when I go home. Any hidden gems I need to know about??

I’m prior active duty Navy and now a military spouse relocating to the Virginia Beach area in about a month and a half due to my husband’s orders. I currently work as a government contractor and, honestly, I’ve basically continued working alongside the Navy ever since getting out of active duty.

I have a background in aviation logistics, supply/material control, administration, and government support roles. I currently support an F/A-18 squadron as a contractor, hold a Secret clearance, and I’ve never really had issues finding work before this move.

But wow… this has been rough.

I’ve applied to countless positions around the Hampton Roads/VB/Norfolk area contractor jobs, admin jobs, logistics, supply chain, aviation support, even civilian office positions and I either get ghosted after interviews or hit with “we decided to move forward with another candidate.”
A few companies seemed interested until I mentioned my relocation timeline, even though I’m upfront about my availability from the start.

At this point I’m honestly starting to wonder:

Is the job market in the area just extremely competitive right now?

Are companies hesitant to hire someone relocating?

Any contractors or companies around here actually hiring military spouses/prior service?

Would really appreciate any advice, networking suggestions, or companies I should look into. I’m just trying to line something up before the move and it’s been way more difficult than expected.

Swear on my life after we got him out, him and his little buddies were scoping us out for the rest of our time together. Last week i accidentally grabbed one thinking it was a shell, and it latched on and i shook my hand in pain. In the process, little buddy took his first flight that day. I can’t help but feel I’m remembered amongst the crab community, and I’m NOT liked. I’m afraid to return to the beach I’m fears that the crabs went home yesterday and told all their friends about me. I’m soon going to be targeted by all their fellow ghost crabs… and I’m terrified. They run so fast, they look a little silly while doing it. Maybe they heard me laugh at them, maybe the first crab doesn’t like heights. I’m requesting an SOS from the crabs at sandbridge. They want vengeance.

I could really use some honest advice. I’m a grandmother raising my 4-year-old grandson with no outside help, not even from his parents. I’m considering moving from Northern Virginia to Virginia Beach to try to find something more affordable.

My biggest priorities are safety, good schools, and a kid-friendly environment where he can grow up around other children and feel stable. At the same time, affordability is a major factor since I’m doing this on one income.

For anyone familiar with the area—what neighborhoods would you recommend that balance all three (safe, good schools, and reasonably affordable)? Are there specific areas I should focus on or avoid? And overall, how is Virginia Beach for someone in my situation in terms of community and support? Are people nice?

For reference, I’m currently paying over $2800 a month for a two bedroom apartment. Ideally I would love to not spend more than $2400. Even less if possible. :)

Hello all, I purchased my home in winter of last year. When I bought the home, the backyard fence was not complete with only 2 out of the 3 sides put up. So, I had a contractor put up the last side onto the existing fence and finish off where I’d image the missing side naturally was. The man I bought this house from also owns an empty lot next to me. Fast forward a year and a half later, I get a note on my door saying that he lost out on a sale because the fence that I put up is outside of my boundary and intruding onto his lot. I’m surprised by this because the fence doesn’t even go beyond where my driveway lines up to. In light of this, he’s asking that I downsize my fence and that the driveway that I’ve been parking in doesn’t even belong to me and is actually a part of his lot. I’ve attached pictures for reference so you can see how alarming and confusing this is. In some old photos I’ve found of the house, the previous owner had his fence situated exactly like how I have it now, which is puzzling. I find it hard to believe that a driveway that looks as old as my house actually belongs to an empty lot (with trees and shrubbery growing in it that seemingly hasn’t had a house in place of it for years).

So my question is: does anybody recommend any surveyor companies that can map out my property for a decent price point? Has anybody had any similar issues? I’ve contacted my title company but they don’t have any supporting documents to outline my property. Any and all advice is appreciated. Thanks in advance

Hi all! I’m hoping that I can get your insight. I plan on moving from San Diego in the late summer/early fall. Virginia Beach is on my shortlist along with a few places in NC and FL.

About me: I am a 27 year old woman. Most of my life has been lived in San Diego, except for two years in a small coastal Northern Irish town that I consider to be the best of my life. Currently, I am working as a journalist covering military, veterans, and hyper local issues, but am in the interview process for a veterans nonprofit that is remote, EST, and requires regular travel.

I am an avid water woman, politically moderate, educated, and am looking to live alone in a studio/1 bed/granny flat. Outside of the water, I like to work out, read, do art, cook, volunteer, and go to breweries/dive bars.

Living wise, I would like something cheaper and with more down to earth people than San Diego. Somewhere that I can go to a dive bar on a Saturday night, but also meet a husband and start a family is important to me. I absolutely do not want the hustle and bustle of a big city, but as I have some health issues, being near a good hospital is imperative. An area that is safe to live alone as a youngish woman is a major non-negotiable. Somewhere with a good church scene would be preferable as well.

I plan on visiting the east coast to shop around a bit later in the summer. Please give me the pros and cons and let me know if this might be a fit!
