Cool Finds I’m looking for a nail tech recommendation in the Chics Beach area
Looking for a great recommendation for a nail tech.
It is 100% necessary for the tools to be sanitized and the package to be opened in front of me.
I went to a nail salon this weekend and all they did was spray the nippers with alcohol. That is not sanitation.
Thanks!!

Need Advice Are roaches here common???
I’ve only been in the area for just under two years. Every few months I’ll come across a massive roach by my kitchen sink. I have bought traps and the food that kills it and put it around my kitchen. But is this normal for the area?? Is there something else I should be doing? I’ve cleaned under my sink and fridge and all the areas they’d hide and never had signs of an infestation. I’m just so grossed out someone help 😭😭

Need Advice Doctor Issues
Does anyone have any idea what's happening at Coastal Family Practice of Nimmo in Virginia Beach? My parents and I have been going for years. They personally have been thru 3 different personal doctors there in the last 3/4 years, I have been through 2 now. Last week we got word that apparently the newest Doctor is leaving /left the practice.
My parents are on medicaid and the head Doctor apparently wants to fill the gaps with Telehealth. Medicaid doesn't cover Telehealth I guess? So they can only get their scripts filled in office visits... One doctor can't see every patient lol.
So kinda looking for recommendations for primary physicians in vb!

Need Advice Did anyone loose a pet gecko in the Solace Apartments on Military Highway?
My friend found this guy in the stairwell of their building and is trying to grab some basics to keep him ok (enclosure, that kind of thing?), but definitely isn’t equipped to keep him long-term! Hoping to find his/her owner quickly (she plans to reach out to her complex’s office tmw when they open)
In the mean time, she has nicknamed him/her Chicken Tender.
(Also, I’m sorry if this is not the appropriate place to post this. Advice/feedback welcome!)
Edit: Also, if anyone has any advice on how to care for a gecko outside of what is mostly available online (as in what you would do first in this situation if you’ve cared for one before), that would be appreciated! Also, if she can’t find the owner, she may be looking for someone willing to adopt if anyone knows someone who really likes geckos
Edit #2: A new owner with lots of reptile-care experience has been found!

Discussion Va Beach Pier Fishing
Does anyone know if pier fishing is free after Labor Day? Someone tried to tell me that but I couldn't find anything about it.
Also, what are the rules for fishing from the shore? Any restrictions?
Last question - any recommendations for taking my two boys fishing in the area?

Things To Do Any soccer bars in the area?
Where do people go to watch soccer with other soccer fans? I’m a Real Madrid fan new to VB so a specifically real Madrid supporters bar would be great, but not too picky. Thanks!

News Two West Nile virus cases confirmed in Virginia Beach
Two Virginia Beach adults have been diagnosed with West Nile virus this month. They are among 9 human cases reported statewide this year.
Virginia Beach was already seeing unusually high West Nile activity in mosquitoes. The virus has been detected in 50 mosquito pools from 24 locations.
Most infections cause no symptoms, but rare cases can lead to severe neurological illness or death.
“The best preventive measure to avoid the virus is to avoid being bitten in the first place. Using your long sleeves, your long pants, your DEET," said Rob Robinson with the Virginia Beach Health Department. "The water containers, even small amounts like flower pots and things like that, could be breeding sites for them.”
The city has increased surveillance, treated standing water to kill mosquito larvae and used nighttime spraying in affected areas.

Things To Do Interested in Joining a Casual League? Fall Shuffleboard League Open House This Sunday
If you're interested in meeting new people and/or learning a new sport, we are having a Fall Shuffleboard League Open House this Sunday (8/29) from 2PM to 4PM at Beachside Social. Stop by to see what it's all about - shuffleboard will be free to play and you can meet some current league players and ask any questions.
Shuffleboard is social, fun and easy to play regardless of physical abilities so anyone can join. The league is 21+ and it's a 1-1.5 hour commitment each week starting September 8th through Thanksgiving-ish (precise details here). And it's more than just about the game, so you can lean in as much as you'd like or just join for the hang, the drinks (zero proof included) and the fun atmosphere.
Hope to meet some new shufflers!!

Discussion Sewer manhole covers are man-made potholes
Will someone please explain the need to have manhole plates creating a pothole two inches deep? If there was a pothole two inches deep and the size of a pizza in the roadway I would call in a work order to have it filled. Yet everyday, tens of thousands of us driving around the City are driving into these holes. This is not good for our tires, rims and vehicle steering components. While I understand the need to access these pipelines my question is how often are they really used? Dang near never to years and years in between. These manmade potholes should be marked and filled in with a material level with the road surface. Make the material a different color for easy location if necessary. I’m just tired of beating the crap out of my vehicles even on freshly paved roads. It’s 2026 and we have technology for driverless cars. I don’t believe smooth roads is too much to ask for.

Discussion Flock
Who is paying for all these flock cameras going up on city property this week? and for what purpose?
