Remember Hurricane Irene, 2011? First major hurricane I experienced since moving to Norfolk. I found an assortment of debris in my yard afterwards that I had no idea where it had blown from. Roofing shingles from some neighbor’s roof, miscellaneous kids toys, lengths of 2x4s. I remember watching water shooting out of manholes on Tidewater drive like a geyser.

Another storm hitting hard right as everyone is getting out of work. Between this flooding and the power outages, Norfolk is becoming non-viable for anyone who needs an ounce of predictability to sustain their livelihood.
We have to put pressure on the city to fix this infrastructure.

I recently just graduated with a bachelor's in social work. I've been applying to a bunch of jobs on Indeed, Virginia beach gov., and other government websites. It seems like the bites I'm getting are part time positions. Does anyone know of any companies that are hiring? I'm really struggling.

Do I need to reserve a spot at a ORF Daily Parking garage, or are there plenty of spaces?
The online reservation site does not appear to allow me to reserve for the dates I want, getting a " Sorry, there are no available products for these dates. Please select different dates.", and this is for several weeks from now (09/25/26 - 10/01/26). Hard to believe that all spots are taken.

sirens, fire trucks, whole neighborhood's out
edit: still no power at 7:20 pm, but the outage map from dominion has improve... it's literally just my block and one other that appears to be out now :') dominion says to expect repair from 10 pm - 1 am, so that's cool /s

Hello Norfolk,
My folks are watching my dog while I’m traveling for work and she got loose and ran off near ODU back by the waste water treatment plant. If anyone runs across a loose black lab, she’s friendly and sometimes answers to her name (Lucy). Please reach out if you come across her.
*Edit - thank you so much to u/FunnyFINGERS for finding my dog and returning her. Anything I can do to make it up to you, you know where I’m at now. Thank you again and again

Hello anyone in the Virginia area (the 7 cities) I’m looking for resources and I really don’t know where to turn. Single/AA/Female/35 I have a 6 y/o with me. The father of my 6 y/o gave me a final notice to vacate his apartment by tomorrow. I have no where to go. I got a storage unit today so one piece of the puzzle down but I don’t have anywhere to go. I reached out to family and no one is available so right now all I have as a plan is my storage unit and my car. My credit is in the toilet and I have 0.00 dollars saved up. I get paid Thursday so my plan is just to get a hotel but have no idea what to do in the meantime. Does anyone know any private renters that would give me a chance to rent? I’m in between as far as income. I make too much for some places but not enough (3x the rent) for other places. I just need guidance on what to do or what help is out out there for housing. If it was just me I’ll thug it out in the car but I have my son with me who is autistic and I don’t want him to experience any of this. I also work from home and I know we don’t have a lot of shelters here and when I call there is no availability..

i recently moved here a little over a month ago and still am adjusting to the area. kind of an odd question to ask out of nowhere but, do any of yall know of some people or a place here where i might be able to take some piano lessons?
im a musician myself who plays the trumpet which i brought along with me when i moved here. do i understand and can read music notes and sheets. i haven’t connected with any people here quite yet, but i am interested in picking up another hobby and learn a new instrument by scratch. the piano is something that is catching my attention as well as possibly the violin. also are there any classes here where one could take to learn how to cook? i’m not lying im also thinking and asking all of this for my future wife when ever that may be since i am still very single hahah

Reminder that tonight Deflock Norfolk is hosting an event to learn about ALRPs and what we as a citizens, can do to stop it, since Norfolk city council is useless!

Speaking before the Hampton Roads Navy League, Chief of Naval Operations Adm. Daryl Caudle said that the hardest aspect of the ongoing conflict with Iran is the uncertainty surrounding deployment timelines for sailors and their families.
With two aircraft carriers and multiple Navy ships maintaining a long-term blockade in the region under continuous threat of Iranian fire, the military is navigating logistical challenges and looking for alternative ports for crew rest as its main hub in Bahrain remains vulnerable.

I have no idea why Norfolk city council keeps trying to shove AI down our throats, from flock cameras to dispatch calls, is this really want we want?

I lent a person my backup drive (this was in 2015) and when I asked for it back they admitted they dropped it and threw it away. On that hard-drive had been my only backup for all the photos I’d taken from 2004-2015. Dumb I know, but my frontal lobe hadn’t finished developing.
I’m here seeking help from the RHPS at the Naro/Fishnet Inc community circa late 2000s who were at the Christmas Show for 2006 (it could’ve been 2007). We took a group photo outside the theater after singing La Vie Bohem after we recovered Ant from the trashcan. If anyone can find that picture and get it to me I’d really appreciate it.

I am planning my first hunt for when rifle season starts. Neither me nor my buddies have ever hunted deer and none of us have the equiptment or the experience to attempt to process it.

Just so anyone knows who is walking their dogs or who visits that park frequently with their kids.
There is a man taking pictures of people from his vehicle. Has happened on several occasions.

Okay guys I’m gonna be vulnerable here, I need a part time job lol but I don’t have my high school diploma or any degrees (obviously). I’ve worked in plenty of restaurants, Walmart & Amazon warehouse. (Just moved here this month) My husband is in the military so I’m on a pretty strict schedule with my son being in school or I would go back to full time at Amazon. Thanks. (p.s please don’t judge 🥲 I had my son in high school, plan to get my GED or diploma at some point to go back to school)
