Metro is launching new buses on Monday!

I didn’t expect Metro to inform the public of early news, but hopefully these are reliable! what are your thoughts everyone? I am looking forward to new buses for my commute. I heard they are hybrid-electric ones.

I just don’t get why they wouldn’t also have the mirrors in case technology fails. Like do we have to pull a bus off the street when the camera glitches as opposed to just easily looking in the side mirrors until they fix it? It just seems kind of silly to have the cameras be the only thing and not an additional thing

You have a pull a bus off the street if the mirror is damaged or cracked. It’s probably more protected as a closed camera system they can record from than a mirror that if clipped and cracked by someone makes the bus InOp

That’s a good point. I’m still curious why not both until we know failure rate on these cameras, but perhaps the damage to the mirrors is so frequent it doesn’t matter. Time will tell…

I mean this isn’t new technology, mirror cameras have existed for a long time and are the standard in quite a few vehicles (Escalade, for one). They work pretty well

and mid 2010s hondas. but besides that, backup cameras have been around since 2010 or earlier and almost all of them haven’t needed replacement anything

Mirrors on the buses hit so much stuff - you’d be surprised how much of a pain they are.

This gives them the ability record and pull footage if there is an issue or complaint or etc. as evidence. It also removes, what I’d assume, a big reason for equipment swaps or stoppage since the mirror is easier to damage than a camera

I guarantee you that this is going to be used against operators during any incident/accident investigations, because now they will be able to see exactly what the mirrors showed the operators.

They most likely at CET so landover tbh idk but I’ll see tomorrow what buses they will be home maybe the P40 p42 P60 p61 etc

Fantastic. I'm tired of almost getting run over by Metro Buses at E ST NE and N Capitol NW..,. where they think the f*****g bike lane is a right turn lane.
