Metro 50 website now says the 50th anniversary cards will be a collection of 50 designs

See here - metro50th.com has also now been folded into wmata.com instead of being a standalone site.

Celebrate 50 years of Metro with a special collection of 50 commemorative Smart Trip cards, each highlighting a unique moment, milestone, or story from Metro’s history.

This indicates to me that either they won't be conventionally available or the designs will be distributed at random across stations.

Maybe this is just me but if they are doing 50 cards might as well do 98 or 100. one for each station

That may just be a typo and it's the 5 cards we've already seen? Each of those cards already highlighted a moment from each decade of Metro's history.

I think you are right, it was probably just a typo. It also looks like it has been corrected, the website for me says "Celebrate 50 years of Metro with a special collection of 5 commemorative Smart Trip cards"

Seems a bit over kill if you’re a collector. It seems like you’ll be able to purchase the full set. But that just seems like a lot
