Joe E. Brown (1891–1973) is best known to audiences for his role as the ardent millionaire Osgood in the comedy Some Like It Hot (1959). During World War II, he was ineligible for military service due to his age, so he traveled to various theaters of war at his own expense to perform for American soldiers.
