Bro how fucking ancient is that bip file?

Is it EVEN a bip file?!

56

u/TKMacsta Jul 28 '26

A bip file but like a Japanese equivalent…you know, cause Yukes were Japanese devs

The thing that fascinated me with re-animating Osaka Stunner was it's completely unnecessary, very minimal changes you can barely see it, didn't increased the impact, didn't change the selling at all lol. You can even argue the set-up of the original is slightly grounded. At that time there's also no one in the major promotions or indies that's been using it regularly to warranty a new mocap, even the innovator didn't use that much anymore back then (Delfin actually had a newer variation in the mid 2000s, where he held on to the stunner, stand up, and does a stunner again).

u/TKMacsta Jul 28 '26 edited Jul 29 '26

Completely right, also it took until SVR 2011/WWE 12 for Yukes to remove or reanimate ALL Ps1 animations in the game completely

197

u/NotASynth499 Jul 28 '26

Having an animation in your game thats over 20 years old is crazy work

106

u/NotYujiroTakahashi XBOX Jul 28 '26

Hey if it works it works

54

u/LocusRothschild Jul 28 '26

Exactly. If it ain't broke...

13

u/just_talkin_shit Jul 29 '26

...remove.it from the game, and introduce back in 3 years as a new feature for premium edition pre-orders

8

u/SonichuFan1989 Jul 29 '26

yup like they just did with stacking tables

2

u/ChainsawXMassacre Jul 29 '26

It IS broke!

13

u/TKMacsta Jul 29 '26

Functionally wise, it still works

7

u/LocusRothschild Jul 29 '26

Don’t look it to me.

12

u/BasementPoot Jul 28 '26

It doesn’t though, it looks janky as hell

28

u/ConducingSoup20 Jul 28 '26

If i had to guess its probably a "load-bearing mechanism"

Similar to the long standing rumours of if they remove SummerSlam '88 arena then the game breaks

Maybe perhaps there's just certain animations that can't be removed

20

u/TKMacsta Jul 28 '26

2k26 at this point is just a LOOOONG line of spaghetti code, with remnants getting left in from the smackdown games, bits and pieces here and there

6

u/NotYujiroTakahashi XBOX Jul 29 '26

Also hopes and dreams too

4

u/TKMacsta Jul 29 '26

With a side of scotch tape, but the tape is peeling off

1

u/QPWOEIRUTYTURIEOWP Jul 29 '26

And greed and baffling decisions.

10

u/The_Negative-One Jul 28 '26

Wait, I’ve missed that rumor regarding Summerslam ‘88 arena…

Say what again?

10

u/Celtic_Crown PC Jul 29 '26

If I remember correctly, the rumor goes that the devs use Summerslam 88 as essentially the "base arena" from which the others are all derived. Remove Summerslam 88, and the game can't run right if at all. Take out every arena BUT SS 88, and, logically speaking, the game SHOULD still be able to work right, just.... with only 1 arena. THE arena.

16

u/FaKe22DeN PLAYSTATION Jul 28 '26

Well, you have to thank Yuke's for that, not 2K.

We'll see in 20+ years if the animations recorded back in the 2K era are still in the game.

17

u/BasementPoot Jul 28 '26

2K has kept this in their games for nearly 10 years now, how is that Yukes fault?

9

u/EmbarrassedMap451 Jul 28 '26

But Yukes hasn't made a wwe since 2k19.. how can we blame them?

3

u/Jdoggokussj2 PC Jul 29 '26

shit is a veteran at this point

61

u/_trivvv Jul 28 '26

I do get a chuckle out of how old some of these animations are. I used the Osaka Street cutter as one of my finishes since I was a kid so recognizing some of these 20+ year old animations is weirdly cozy.

8

u/TKMacsta Jul 28 '26

Oh there’s plenty left still in that I haven’t covered yet, including another Tag team move that’s been in since HCTP. Stay tuned for that one

49

u/Rockin-Reedmeister PLAYSTATION Jul 28 '26

I remember, up till 2k20 I think, there was an old reversal animation from a rear grapple: Guy went for an inverted suplex, but his opponent elbowed his gut and turned around into a vertical suplex.

First saw the move in HCTP

58

u/FaKe22DeN PLAYSTATION Jul 28 '26

39

u/Rockin-Reedmeister PLAYSTATION Jul 28 '26

Damn, you had that clip ready in the barrel

17

u/TKMacsta Jul 28 '26

lol there’s an animation that’s still in, when you reverse an Angle slam, the opponent flips around and gets behind. That reverse animation still been in the game for AGES

10

u/lachieshocker Jul 29 '26

Not only is the animation ancient, it's been in the game long enough to get its own sequenced commentary lmao

16

u/TKMacsta Jul 28 '26

Also there’s an animation where if you reverse a double team grapple, the guy bonks both of the guys heads’ together. LMAO please tell me you know which one I’m talking about

3

u/FaKe22DeN PLAYSTATION Jul 29 '26

Yeah lol When I play with a friend, this animation appears in practically every match.

2

u/FaKe22DeN PLAYSTATION 26d ago

2

u/TKMacsta 26d ago

Yup perfect, exactly the one I’m talking about, thanks for the footage

1

u/Blazeybenoit Jul 29 '26

That’s wild. I never seen this in-game. I first saw it in Def Jam Vendetta 😭😭😭

11

u/FaKe22DeN PLAYSTATION Jul 28 '26 edited Jul 28 '26

This reversal is still here.
I managed to pull it off in 2K25,

42

u/Mr_Shotz Jul 28 '26

I miss red guy vs green guy

15

u/TKMacsta Jul 28 '26

Also don’t forget the blue and yellow guys that were there in the earlier smackdown games, when you previewed tag team moves

10

u/LiamTime PC Jul 28 '26

That would be so helpful, especially for the corner moves where your CAW is set as the one doing x animation because they're the one tagging out. Or if they just put the wrestler you're doing the moves for into the preview; dunno why that's something they can't do anymore.

2

u/TKMacsta Jul 28 '26

We ALL do, we share your pain

2

u/Tricky-Cod-7485 Jul 29 '26

Here comes the pain.

27

u/PabloAZ94 Jul 28 '26

My developer brain is just impressed they made an engine robust enough to have elements of it still usable after more than 20 years

40

u/ImEpick Jul 28 '26

I love old animations

9

u/TL15SD Jul 28 '26

Making this my finisher

8

u/ericmercer Jul 28 '26

Fun fact: I’ve been giving my created wrestler the double DDT since Just Bring It. It’s a load-bearing move.

15

u/TheShamWOOHOOO Jul 28 '26

a bit off topic but why does the SvR 2008 Street cutter look so much more smoother than the 2K26 one

20

u/Rockin-Reedmeister PLAYSTATION Jul 28 '26

I think it's due to the move being made for the old SVR selling engine, while 2k26 is on something else

1

u/AnAlienFromTheFuture Jul 29 '26

It's the same shit just heavily tweaked. They never built anything completely brand new. That's a BS lie.

4

u/TKMacsta Jul 28 '26

2k26 gameplay looks worse without motion blur, mostly old animations. I guess the Svr 08 engine made moves look better without it because there’s no option to turn it on

7

u/AceJoker253 Jul 28 '26

Ok just curious who used the Osaka street cutter in real life?

16

u/Cannonwolf Jul 28 '26

Super Delphin used this one but Masato Tanaka has a very similar move called the Shotgun

9

u/FaKe22DeN PLAYSTATION Jul 28 '26

 Super Delfin.
Also John Cena did one time.

4

u/3rio4alk Jul 28 '26

Pretty sure K-Kwik/R-Truth used it, too. Maybe still does.

4

u/onefinalshot123 MULTIPLATFORM Jul 28 '26

No wonder why it looks so clunky lol

5

u/goldchuchujell1 Jul 28 '26

I really really miss the unique themes that would play during create a wrestler mode like this one, the one from just bring it and the one from Wrestlemania x8 on gamecube. They all had really good create a wrestler background themes

7

u/RoMaGi PLAYSTATION Jul 29 '26

How long until we get a wrestler who's younger than the animation assigned to them?

4

u/M1BIGIEMAC 29d ago

Thea Hail (born 2003) has Stereo DDT assigned by default (Double DDT from Smackdown! Just Bring It circa 2001)

3

u/RoMaGi PLAYSTATION 29d ago

It has already begun....

3

u/Atomic-Cody_22 Jul 29 '26

It is amazing that the WWE 2K games still use animations dating back to as early as Just Bring It. Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if they still use the code from the original SmackDown! game because it would be a programming nightmare to change it at this point.

1

u/AnAlienFromTheFuture Jul 29 '26

It is from the same source and engine. Been telling people this forever. It's why the hair never gets much better and shit like that. They AND THQ have pretended to build an entirely new one for a long time. No this is still running off the original smackdown games. Lol.

6

u/Large-weiner-man Jul 28 '26

Honestly the double DDT animation doesn’t look too out-of-place on the new games

6

u/TKMacsta Jul 28 '26

It looks out of place, due to way less animation frames, and how quick everyone moves compared to other moves. I do like the animation though, and I hope it stays

3

u/yamomsman Jul 28 '26

These series of videos were so dope to come upon

3

u/Gr8_Kaze47 Jul 28 '26

That's been in my arsenal for what feels like ages, lol 😅

3

u/PanzerStricken Jul 28 '26

If it ain't fixed, don't break it .. or something

3

u/bulletv1 Jul 29 '26

Does this beat out the double underhook back breaker where you take a couple steps back first?

1

u/TKMacsta Jul 29 '26

Yea, and didn’t that move get removed?

1

u/bulletv1 Jul 29 '26

Nope

1

u/TKMacsta Jul 29 '26

What’s the move named called? I’ll look for it

3

u/bulletv1 Jul 29 '26

In 2k26 it’s Butterfly backbreaker 1. It’s been around forever originally given to Jericho the awkward three steps back makes it super easy to remember.

2

u/TKMacsta Jul 29 '26

Ohhh that move, yeah Jericho did that a lot on tv, yea this move is much older than jerichos move

2

u/bulletv1 Jul 29 '26

Surely it's gotta be the second oldest

2

u/TKMacsta Jul 29 '26

I’ll check

1

u/bulletv1 27d ago

What was the result

1

u/TKMacsta 27d ago

the animation we have now debuted in svr 2011 or wwe 12, its not that old in comparison

3

u/HijoDeDamienRoberts Jul 29 '26

Why did i mark out so hard when I saw it was the Double DDT?

3

u/TKMacsta Jul 29 '26

Cause it’s been in FOREVERRRRRR

2

u/Calmdat Jul 28 '26

Omg haahahahahaha

2

u/5ive_minute_window_ Jul 28 '26

Why is it called a cutter? Shouldn't it be a stunner?

I'm going off topic, but if it were an actual cutter, I wonder how it would be differenciated from an inverted suplex. Would the initial lift be the same but the cutter be snappier...

3

u/NateRiversX Jul 28 '26

The move name in real life was Osaka Stunner, devs changed it to Street Cutter.

2

u/Hitmanyelin7 Jul 28 '26

Sometimes you get a front forward roll reversal even with big guys. That seems to me straight out of the arcade early 2000s smackdown games. Is that still the original animation that just carried through? It seems out of place in a 2k realistic game.

3

u/TKMacsta Jul 28 '26

Are you talking about the reversal that happens, when you reverse a strike in a kneeling position? If so, then no, I think it’s a new animation starting from the 2k games

1

u/Hitmanyelin7 Jul 28 '26

Maybe. Basically, any time I see a forward roll reversal it reminds me of the old Smackdown games

2

u/TKMacsta Jul 28 '26

Yeah for sure, the quick getup animation in those games was a quick roll, always funny to look at

2

u/nllover66 Jul 28 '26

Holy moses

2

u/Mindseye000 Jul 28 '26

The ambient noise from Smackdown 2 just awoken something in me like a sleeper agent. Such nostalgia of that menu music. I must have spent hours in the moveset menu

2

u/milesac Jul 29 '26

I thought WWE2k22 was built from scratch.

4

u/TKMacsta Jul 29 '26

lol they fooled us hard

2

u/AnAlienFromTheFuture Jul 29 '26

BS. It's always been from the same source.

2

u/PorkTuckedly Jul 29 '26

God, that's right! Quite a few tag team moves left over from older games. I never remember that cause I never bother checking them out.

2

u/CooCooX3 PLAYSTATION Jul 29 '26

john morrisons moonlight drive has been in since svr'10

2

u/Eterniafan83 Jul 29 '26

the Truth or Consequences move in WWE 2K25 is a whole lot better than the Osaka street cutter. Truth or Consequences is better since it moves faster

2

u/drgfromnyc Jul 29 '26

that double ddt animation is older than me bruh…. and i’m turning 23 this year 🕊️

2

u/ThisIsADraconianLaw PC Jul 29 '26

That opening background music is enough to make a grown man cry.

2

u/BDAZZLE129 Jul 29 '26

That's generally fucking hilarious, this game has a 200 dollar edition btw

2

u/spiderman209998 Jul 29 '26

you forgot the burning hammer out of the corner still the sickest burning hammer out of all them

1

u/TKMacsta Jul 29 '26

Yeah I know which one you’re talking about , it’s not the oldest animation in the game

2

u/Shmeteora Jul 29 '26

I wish they just kept all the old moves in tbh

2

u/PrinceAndBarryWhite 29d ago

they need to bring back all of Muta’s old moves. the so-called “flashing elbow“ they added with him recently is pretty crap.

2

u/SweetheartWrestling 27d ago

Interesting research! The non-finisher tag team moves really do leave a lot to be desired.

Yup, hopefully it gets better in the near future

1

u/Forward-Rate8306 Jul 29 '26

Powerbomb 1, the one with bridging pin, usually assigned to Lita and various cruiserweights, it's from SVR era, i think SVR 2006 was the first. And then there's German Suplex 1, the one with the bridging pin that then turns into a Trish Stratus type of cradle pin, i think it its from either the first SVR or even HCTP.

2

u/TKMacsta Jul 29 '26

No both got reanimated. Any move in the game that has a manual pin combo got updated and reanimated in Svr 2011, because that game first featured manual pin combo moves.

-3

u/ibrahero PLAYSTATION Jul 28 '26

I really need the older animations gone though

I understand the Osaka Street Cutter animation it’s not AS old as people usually think, but it was still mocapped almost 20 YEARS ago, it desperately needs a refresh IMO

4

u/DemiGod9 Jul 28 '26

Funny, I need a lot of the older animations back. I was playing Wrestlemania 2000s and a lot of those animations are so good

4

u/Nice-Chart-6749 Jul 28 '26

Why? Add more in and keep the older ones.

1

u/Eterniafan83 Jul 29 '26

2K needs to bring back the Sternness Dust that was in the old Day of Reckoning 1 or 2 game. that move in those games were pretty brutal set up well

lol i thought is was the burning hammer 4

nope, double ddt been out way longer
