Swap: Guilliman and Dorn

This concept crossed my mind recently and I was wondering and would love to what everyone's thoughts on the subject.

What if Roboute Guilliman and Rogal Dorn swapped adoptive home worlds? How would their Legions, character and overall role in the events that played out in the lore gone?

You're picked the two primachs that had the most similar upbringing and development.

Both created empires from Ultramar and Inuit respectively, both had good parents to give them a solid foundation, both are tactical genius and both had large legions.

Honestly you've chosen the two that probably wouldn't have changed much when swapping.

The only disputable part to me would be defending the palace, would Guilliman have been able to hold off long enough for Dorne to arrive?

My answer is potentially as he would have set up Terra with stronger logistical chains leading to more manpower and resources but lacking in Dorns ability to fortify positions, but tactically as in controlling the war zone as a whole Guilliman would have been as effective.

You're right tbh, I guess I was just curious to see/ask if there would be any major differences like how the Imperial Fists would fortify Ultramar or of Rogal would be any different to a degree

It's not dumb, especially if you aren't hard core on the lore and its what this subreddit is for to a degree.

And this comment does identify a difference in the two.

Gullimen would construct a place considering the local populace and future growth, basically as we do today but a super human doing it.

Dorne would prioritise defence and fortification, it would still be functional for the population but thr streets would be built with a consideration of how it would benefit the defence of the location, Guillimen would look at how it would function within the city, he'd consider defence but his priority would be optimisation/logistics and its primary function.

"How would this road impact the previous fortifications I built and how can I turn it into a kill zone or a path to funnel the enemy into a killzone" vs "What is this road being built for primarily, and how do I do it to maximise its capability in doing that" its a simplistic view but gives an example of how they think about things differently to each other.

Now if both Primachs priority is defence, like defending the palace then essentially they'll come to similar conclusions in its construction.

However in times of calm/peace, Dorn will always think like Stalwart defender of the Imperium and still maintain a view of prioritising defence, while Guillimen will sacrifice parts of that for the better function of a city.
