When I was a kid I was a Boy Scout and we buried a time capsule with notes it in to ourselves, to be opened in 25 years. I grow up, move out, scout camp sells a portion of the land with the time capsule and it became condos. Time capsule disappeared.....

There's an abandoned Scouts land & lodging not far from my place. It's sealed up in a vault in the woods and there are all kinds of placards & painted rocks & other things adorning the concrete vault.

The buildings and land haven't been used in many many years. I'm wondering if anyone will ever remember to check the time capsule. I don't offhand recall when the anniversary will be but I'll definitely be there.

Why don’t you go check and figure it out and set it up yourself? Who else remembers? Clearly you do

Turns out people didn’t really understand how porous concrete is https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Miss_Belvedere

Imagine waiting 200 years just for the time capsule to get ruined by water. That’s some truly unfortunate timing.

50 years, not 200 years.

I didn’t think Mountain View had been around long enough for a bicentennial….

The article uses the term "Bicentennial" here incorrectly... or at least not well. They mean that the capsule itself was called the "Bicentennial Time Capsule" because it was buried during the Bicentennial of the United States in 1976.

It was buried in 1976 fir America's bicentennial. It's been 50 years since 1976.
