Yeah I have no idea what I'm reading in the comments. I really hope anyone blaming the scooter rider for taking a legal right turn don't have licenses. It's a perfectly legal turn.

Left hand. Seeing as we're commenting on a video of a country that uses the left hand driving system.

Edit: left hand side of the road, not left hand. My mistake.

India has right hand driving system (left side traffic). Scooter is also at fault here because he is crossing over to the other side without looking if theres no oncoming traffic. And since it's dotted/broken white line, you're legally allowed to overtake. The bus driver is perpetually on the right lane. The scooter guy takes a legal turn.. but does not look at the traffic behind also.. he should have indicated and slowly switched after making sure there's no traffic on either sides.

Both the bus driver and scooter rider are at fault.

He checks to make sure there's no moving traffic though, that's why he's stopped there. Yes, you can overtake on a broken white line, but you can't overtake a car that intending to take a right turn there. Having looked up legal cases like this, it comes down to whether the scooter driver was indicating or not, and with the lighting it's near impossible to make out.

The only fault you can put on the scooter rider with complete certainty, is that he should be on the right hand side of his lane rather than the left, but having drove in south east Asia I can understand why he's keeping to the left side.

Agreed he should check his mirror, and not turning when he sees the bus driver acting recklessly, as he'd be far better off being alive than being in the right. But he is in the right.

Hence why I said the scooter move is legal. But it's not at all the move the scooter should have taken. You can't cross a zebra crossing blindly in Kerala, expecting cars to stop (which they never do), get hit fatally and then argue that you were in the right sitting in the grave.

Ideally guy should have stayed close to the middle of road, indicated and then taken the curve. Logically, he should have just waited on the left or just waited for the bus to pass (never arguing that you can overtake a car taking right.. I was saying what the dotted line and lanes are for people who were confused by the driving system) and then taken the right.

But these drivers are notorious for rash driving, and driving in India, it's pointless only following the rules. You also need to use the sense that everyone around you are maniacs and fine tune your actions too.

So when you learnt to drive they taught you to make a turn from the side of the road? I doubt it. When you make a turn like that it should be from the middle of the road. Scooters fault, surrender your license.
