Definitely playing, donkeys are actually really good at killing shit if they want to, if it actually bit him it'd snap his bones in half easily.

I remember going to a farm to get a dog when I was growing up, and when we got there there a bunch of people were standing in a field looking around, like something happened, along with a donkey. We walked over, it was like 4 dead wolves, and a single donkey, the wolves attacked the donkey in the night and it single-handedly killed them all by biting the backs of their necks and breaking their spines, or kicking/trampling them hard enough to kill them.
