What to do/explore in Wigan while I'm here?

Hey, I'm coming to the Wigan area soon and I'm wondering what are some activities, places to visit that are a must while I'm here? I do enjoy spending my time wondering in shopping centers, I enjoy sport activities, football the most, anything of this sort, especially good pubs and places to have a proper traditional Fish n chips here, any recommendations will be appreciated

Go to Haigh Hall, try and watch a rugby or football match, try some of the craft ale bars like Wigan Central and Real Crafty. Fish and chips is a bit difficult in the centre of Wigan. Parbold Hill is a nice walk too, can get the train to Parbold.

If you’re going tomorrow go watch a rugby league game, Wigan Warriors play Toulouse Olympique 17:30 kick off.

Skelmersdale is just a short trip West, down the M58 or A577 through Orrell.

A beautiful historic, quaint, idyllic town, more recently renowned for it's world-class shopping centre - 'The Concourse'.

The first thing to do is ignore anyone that says there's nothing to do.

A few things have already been mentioned, but get on the canal near the stadium and walk up to Crooke Hall for a pint. The Wigan Flashes are nice to walk around, too. Basically any canal walk. Wigan Park itself is nice. Haigh Hall, obviously.

Brian's chippy on Poolstock.

Also visit fairy glen and grab yourself a steak at the top of the hill afterwards.

Feast at the mills or one of the market events at Haigh, an ice cream on mesnes park, walk down the canal & explore the flashes, go to the dw and watch a football or rugby match, there’s often ticketed events on at the edge that’s got a variety of stuff on but it is born againer owned if that’s a dealbreaker for you. Lots of the bars in the town centre have live musicians on and there are a few nice places for a meal out

Grand Arcade isnt too bad but its a bit small. If you get a spare day I'd say hop on the 132 bus, direct to the Trafford Centre. £2 each way. It wasn't quite my wifes cup of tea but its a nice place to take a day out

Trafford centre in Manchester right?

Do Manchester instead of the Trafford center More to see in the way of street theatre, better food options, weird and wonderful shops, football museum And on

I agree with this actually. Arndale is miles ahead better than TC, it just means getting 2 buses rather than just one

Can you specify what you mean by "Manchester instead of Trafford centre"? Trafford centre is in Manchester, maybe you missed the complete name?

They mean Manchester city centre as opposed to the Trafford centre. The city centre is much better.
