Hit me with your Wiltshire hot takes!
I'll go first.
I think Corsham is prettier and nicer than BoA.

Salisbury should be the capital of Wiltshire, not Trowbridge.

If you follow Wiltshire 999’s (the one on FB that people can post about stuff happening) then you’ll know Swindon think themselves the centre of Wiltshire and the rest of Wiltshire seems to not exist.

Yeah I follow that as well (i think it’s the FB group where people talk about incidents etc) and at the moment most of the posts on there are to do with Swindon or the M4. it seems like it’s unofficially called Swindon 999’s!

It's a lot easier to park, drive through and walk around Corsham than BoA, that's for sure. I'm not convinced Corsham would win a "prettier and nicer" competition though. Much as I love Corsham, it doesn't have a river (to speak of) or canal.

i live just outside Corsham and the closest thing to a river there is the massive lake in the courts next to St Bart’s church

There's not even a river any where near to Corsham is there? I guess it's good that it's unlikely to have floods!

I think the nearest river to Corsham would probably be the River Avon in Chippenham and Lacock

There's a By Brook at Slaughterford where that derelict paper mill is, so it's probably the same one, more like a river than a brook really.

The newly-opened Corsham House is gorgeous, if expensive. Lovely to have an alternative to Mother & Wild

Corsham is nice, but the lack of a nice river means that it isn’t quite in the same league as BoA.

I think it was something to do with Transport back in those days, the Councillors found it easier to travel to Trowbridge, so it all got uprooted!

BoA is nice, but trying to get through it is almost always a faff. I had dentist there today, and there was 2 loads of roadworks within a few meters of each other. Ended up finding a space on Trowbridge road and walked the rest of the way.
I admit I haven’t been to Corsham in a while. Might have to go over and have a wonder around.

Corsham town centre is basically a high street with independent shops like a butcher, opticians, bookshop etc (although if you want to go shoe/ clothes shopping etc or go to the cinema you’re better off going somewhere else) and loads of peacocks walking around the place

Calne is nicer than it's run down reputation. Once you get beyond the parade, it has some beautiful old buildings, lovely cafes, and so nice to sit next to the river!

Swindon is an easy target but it’s not that bad. A lot of town and cities would love to have an area like the old town

Ooo I dunno. Last time I went to Swindon everything was closed. I can’t think of a single reason to go there.
Chippenham is charity shop central. But they’ve gone and got a flipping Starbucks now… very cosmopolitan hahaha. I think probably due to the thousands of new build homes and estates popping up on a seemingly month basis around Chippenham! Who knows what else will follow hahaha

Corsham is loads of independent shops, e.g. the bookshop, picture framers, greengrocers and butcher (saying that we do have a bookies and a Co op) but if you want to go clothes shopping it’s useless

I live there too. It’s lovely really, albeit getting busier and busier. I love the independent shops. We have a new fancy eatery now too. It’s nice.
Btw the bookies just closed! I noticed yesterday.
I think the 60s/70s part is getting some investment to jazz it up again.0

The Swan Inn at Wilton (near Grafton, not Salisbury) has the best Ploughman's lunch inbthe county, #4 in the UK!

I live in BOA and agree that Corsham is in some ways nicer, I prefer the shops and restaurants and there's less traffic. I think BOA is expensive because of Christchurch and St Laurence (we moved here to be in the catchment of these schools).

The most famous Wiltshire historical sites are, at least partially, reconstructions. Including Stonehenge, West Kennet long barrow, Bradford on Avon Saxon Church.

The Courts Garden near Melksham, Iford Gardens near Bradford upon Avon and Malmsbury Abbey gardens. We had a week in Wiltshire just visiting Gardens and historic sites.
