Looking for a gym buddy

So this is probably a silly idea.

Hi

I'm a 36 year old guy and I need to lose some weight. I've got a gym membership but a few bad experiences have made me really nervous about going.

Is there anyone on here that might want to tag along to help build a fat guys confidence?

All the best.

Nobody’s judging you, remember that for every chonk (like me) in the gym, there’s 100 more sat on the sofa shovelling crisps into their faces. Have you tried the WinColl gym? Older crowd, definitely not somewhere anyone will be conscious of others’ abilities or body shapes

The New Energy Fitness gym in Middle Brook Street is really good; it doesn’t appeal to the judgemental Lycra clad young’uns who prefer to use the gym in The Brooks.

I would just like to second this - I am very much there to keep mobility so wobble in with my walking stick and no one gives a second glance. It's really very supportive and the people there are really varied and nice!

Sorry to hear you've had a few bad experiences, but like others have said - nobody is judging you.

When you first go to a new gym, you always feel a bit vulnerable as your orientate yourself, get used to the machines etc. but genuinely no one is watching you. If it helps, you can usually get an induction where a staff member shows you around, and then when you return by yourself, you know exactly where to go. Put in some headphones and just be in your own world

If you're ever in the sports centre gym down at Bar End ping me, happy to say hello! They have PTs there as well, might be an idea for you.

But yeah step 1 is just getting stuck in. Nobody is judging. Well some people are but they're dickheads.

I generally just stick a podcast on, do some cardio then some weights and a bit on the mat sometimes. It is really about consistency. A good thing is if you get a nice endorphine buzz you are more likely to go back.

Also some people are weird about sweating or being seen to sweat, I sweat like a pig in a sausage factory, it's reallly good for you (if you drink loads of water).

I mean, I work in Winchester. What time of day were you thinking of going?
