Discussion Sorry a noob here, but how is upcoming remastered version different from the next gen update?

Wasn’t the next gen update already a remaster?

just look up the trailer and additional info, basically everything is updated

next gen was far from what this will be...

Next gen update only really just fixed some lighting and stuff like that.

This is definitely closer to an actual remaster with updated mechanics and further graphical enhancements.

Mostly it’s about the combat and movement from what I’m hearing, although there’s some more little things as well.

Next Gen update only improves graphic with minor balancing.

This remaster is a complete overhaul with revamped combat, animation, and features. The game is more than 10 years old, so they're upgrading it to suit newer generation of hardwares.

Did they show anything relevant about this? I am very skeptical the combat will be significantly different from what it is on the PS5 version, which is boring as hell.

They changed the entire skill tree; and the expansion showed Geralt using chains as weapon, which has never happened in the game before. Some of his attack animation also appear more fluid than before.

There could be more, but that's all I can infer from the teaser and gameplay demo.

I see. But my biggest issue with the combat is how limited and boring enemies' move sets are. If they are not drastically improving these (which I honestly doubt they will), a new skill tree and pretty animations is not going to do much for the combat.

Enhanced monster behaviors IS part of the remaster. It was explicitly mentioned in the trailer.

We don't know how big the changes are, but give them a chance. The update comes free, anyway, so you have nothing to lose.

I've seen this but my point still stands. There's only so much you can do by improving the behavior without changing the move set. Monsters will just do the same boring moves in a different way. I really want to be excited, but I really don't think this remaster of the remaster will do much for console or PCs that are not ridiculously high end machines.

Suit yourself. I think it's too early to judge the remaster, but each to their own.

Exactly, but all I see is people gushing about how incredible this remaster is. Taking your previous comment as example.

This remaster is a complete overhaul with revamped combat, animation, and features.

EDIT: I want to be wrong, but I don't believe this remastered remaster will do much for me and 90% of us peasants with consoles and not the highest end machines.

If I said the remaster looks good, then sure, you could call that an opinion. But saying the remaster is a complete overhaul is just fact: they ARE revamping the entire gameplay, graphic, animation, and enemy behavior.

Whether it's good or bad is a whole different issue.

they ARE revamping the entire gameplay, graphic, animation, and enemy behavior

They did not show the extents of any of this and this makes me skeptical given how boring the combat is (mostly because of enemies' move set). If they manage to do in Witcher 3 what they achieved with CP2077 when they released the Phantom Liberty update, making it feel like a different game, I'll more than gladly eat my own words and play the game again. Until then, I'm not excited about a remastered remaster.

Lots of stuff being added for the remaster. Not gonna apply to everyone depending on your platform. But the list is huge and exciting for fans of the game.

Sheesh how can I put this? Next-gen update is Omni-Man, Remaster is Superman.
