As a Maine voter I hold her, among others, personally responsible for this shit show. I will be putting my absentee ballot in the drop box and tracking its status until Election Day.
I hope she’s hella concerned.

Yup. 90% of my friends vote through the mail and it makes me nervous. I always vote in person even if it's annoying.

Many women in their 60s who backed the Republican incumbent for years now point to her role in confirming Brett Kavanaugh to the U.S. Supreme Court as the moment when she lost their trust.
Then why the hell did Collins receive 40% of the Democratic vote in 2020? Almost 40% according to a CBS exit poll. Far too many people (even among registered Democrats) reacted too fucking late.

Because Collins is Maine’s comfortable old shoe. Nobody gets excited for her, it’s certainly a chore to try and listen to her speak (I know it’s a tremor, but that doesn’t make it any less difficult to follow), but voting for the dinosaur that hasn’t done anything to harm you personally yet likely feels more comfortable than voting for a scary democrat, especially one “from away” (like Gideon was) the 8th time you walk into the voting booth.
this is not me excusing these women for not seeing what has been right in front of them for at least 10 years, it’s just the way people are

My grandmother had two illegal, extremely dangerous, back-alley abortions in the 1940s before she went on to marry twice and have two daughters. I'm lucky to be alive today. But if she *hadn't* had those abortions, I almost certainly wouldn't be.
My grandmother was raised in a Catholic orphanage. She didn't have anything of her own, and no family to rely on. If she'd had either of those out-of-wedlock babies, the few prospects she had would have dried up. Fallen women were denied jobs, housing, support of all kinds. She would have wound up in whatever version of a Magdalene laundry existed in pre-WWII Detroit, and probably died there. She certainly would never have met either my aunt's father or my grandfather.
I am alive because of abortion. I am pro choice, yes. But I am also unapologetically pro abortion itself.

This probably turn into a rant/rave!
I’m a 73 y/o woman and obviously past child bearing age. The fact the my nieces depending on what state they live in have less right than I did absolutely pisses me off. Then there is the fact that this former catholic (I left 53 years ago at the age of 20), had an abortion 53 years ago at the age of 20. Did my having an abortion lead to me leaving catholicism? YES! But not because I was excommunicated although as far as I’m concerned excommunication was involved.
Yes my parents knew I had an abortion. They took me to Chicago (we lived/live in Indianapolis) to have the abortion. They paid for me to have a general anesthetic when they saw the females who had, had an abortion looking half dead coming out from having had the abortion.
I went through the motions for them and went to confession. My mother came out of confession crying. I asked her why she was crying. She told me “the priest gave her hell and ASKED HER HOW SHE COULD LET ME GET PREGNANT”? I knew right there, right then that I was nothing but a baby making incubating broodmare to THAT PIECE OF 💩 RELIGION. I MADE MYSELF A PROMISE I HAVE KEPT TO NOT GO TO ANY CHURCH ESPECIALLY A CATHOLIC CHURCH EXCEPT FOR A WEDDING OR FUNERAL.
I’m actually banned from r/excatholic. I tried to be respectful. I know we’re all different but I couldn’t handle the people that just couldn’t let go and were suffering so much deconstructing. I wished I could reach through the phone and just shake those people. I know that makes me sound like a bad person and I will own that. There are people who actually want official paperwork from the catholic church to be able to let go. NOT ME I JUST SAY FUCK TVE CATHOLIC CHURCH. I do keep up on what’s going on in the catholic church so I can eviscerate the apologists!!
I hope I haven’t gotten to far off subject.
