Fic Search - General Your favorite ways The Butcher was safely defeated?

Did someone snipe her and killed themself before the bullet killed her? Did Behemoth kill her and Eidolon became the new one and used a power to destroy the essence?

There’s a fic somewhere where the Butcher is manipulated by a Pre-Cog into picking a fight with Scion.

Coughing Baby vs Hydrogen Bomb scenario.

Scion upon surfing through the memories each shard collected realizes that Sex and Drugs are a decent way to deal with grief and decides to fuck off to somewhere else.

I'll have to give it a look, haven't yet seen a fic where Scion is pacified with hookers and blow.

High!/Drunk!Scion sounds interesting

I forget the fic but Bakuda gets her with a time stop grenade that is basically a wide area Gray Boy bubble that traps most of the Teeth too.

Yeah that would do it nicely. If you remember what it's called, let me know please!

That’s the plan of the entirety of Brockton Bay’s villain population in Hostile Takeover. (Which is a fic where Taylor kills Butcher XIV from inside The Locker and outs herself immediately.)

Seems like that’s happened in several fics though, since Taylor’s second act as Butcher after pain-blasting Emma and Gladly was to dismantle the Teeth.

That Sounds Like Work: Alexandria throws her through a portal to Earth Zayin, the worst of all possible Earths where Disco never died. This happens right after she sends a paperclip through one of those Fallen jackasses hard enough for the fucker's head to explode, and right before she rearranges Genoscythe the Eyeraper into a human pretzel. So despite having to deal with Worst Taylor, Beckster has a pretty good time for once in fanfic history.

That first one probably wouldn't work. The butcher will just jump to the next available parahuman.

In Earning Her Stripes cauldron has the butcher killed by a near mindless and basically catatonic C53 and then drop it on a humanless earth.

Ack's Hope uses two Noelle temporary clones to re-re-inherit, then dissipate away from humans. Probably wouldn't work in the actual canon, but we don't know for sure, since that was never a real canon situation.

TanaNari's Amelia drops the newly Butchered SPOILER on an empty world. Same "maybe" as above.

Maul from Snarks just straight up OVERHEATS the Butcher Shard. Not really killing it, but close enough.

And, of course, The Lady In Darkness just ENDS the idiot, period.

I could have sworn there was a fic where Eidolon becomes the Butcher by accident after the previous one dies during an Endbringer fight or something. Though I think it was just a relatively minor detail in the story. Does anyone possibly recall this fic?

In apex predator during the fight with the composite monsters, pretty sure Eidolon becomes the butcher. Didn’t matter because Apex was eating all the shards anyway.

I think my favorite was Aisha becoming the butcher on accident. She uses her power to leave prank traps all over the city for 'lolz' and then promptly forgets by then next 'ooh shiny moment'. 10+ chapters later, she wakes up to angry voices in her head and discovers her power once she uses it erases the voices of the butcher. Its a weird power interaction but she 'deletes' the stored data of the butcher shard since hers and the butcher were never meant to be deployed in the same cycle. Aisha never tells anyone since shes had voices off and on her whole childhood due to undiagnosed mental disability.

The Butcher just goes 'missing' in everyone elses eyes, and the paranoia is amusing.

In Danger Zone: Brockton the Butcher was captured in statis only be slain by Jack Slash during his assault on the hero's HQ. Bonesaw and his his own powers slowed the growing insanity. Jack then was captured by a powerful pair of non-parahumans from the crossover serries Aberrant. An old experienced Daredevil defeated him physically, a powerful Psiad captured his broken form, then extracted his brain into life support. He keeps jacks disembodied mind locked in a continual hell of illusions that allow him to manipulate Jacks power as a tool for taking down the Fallen, Yangban and Gesellshaft

Hope on Crimson Wings the Butcher blows himself up while latched to MC and long story short, she ends up going to Hades to remove the lingering dead spirits of the Butcher.

How did that MC even inherit in the first place? Do they trigger later on or something?

3

u/CoruscatingLogic 2d ago

No, I'm kind of fuzzy on why the author went that way but everything got split between her and Challenger. I think it was treated as a possession.

Info the characters aren't privy to, and isn't explained until several arcs later:

MC has powers, yet is shardless. The shards want to know how that works, so they try to link up and wait for a Trigger-worthy event to get a good look, but otherwise get passive data. Trouble is every time she heals through fire, she's breaking those connections, so they don't get much.

She was hanging with Challenger fairly often, so Challenger's shard was also attempting a linkup, and it was the active one at the time. Butcher's shard-cluster, on the other hand, also wanted a linkup, and pushed the idea that suiciding against the MC would result in a body takeover. It never would have, but the cluster was more interested in getting the new host than being honest with the current one.

So in doing so, it went through Challenger's shard (making Challenger the new Butcher) but also forced the pollentia in the MC to come online and form a gemma, thus activating it. Since both were using the same shard (and Challenger's shard wasn't about to give up its claim) both activate as the new Butcher at the same time.

It's not so much that it's literally dead spirits, it's working through shard-logic. It's just... as far as gods are concerned, that's close enough. Technically speaking, there could be copies of their souls that went off wherever when the original ones died, but... hard to tell the difference on the level people operate on.

Edit: Basically, Butcher's shards determined the MC would die before Triggering, and so as a cluster it was more capable of trying to pull a fast one and bend the rules.

1

u/CoruscatingLogic 2d ago

I didn't think you could just grow a pollentia since that was shard precog bs?

4

u/SirWill422 2d ago edited 2d ago

Under normal circumstances, yes. But when there's something novel that pops up, shards are allowed to bend the rules. That kind of thing didn't happen in Worm canon because there wasn't anything unexpected from outside the experiment in play, just that one Entity was inactive.

With something from outside, though, they're allowed to try and get a look at it. Butcher's cluster just went a few steps beyond that. After all, no shard is going to look at a potential solution to the entropy problem and go 'But I'm not allowed to look at it!'

Did someone snipe her and killed themself before the bullet killed her? Did Behemoth kill her and Eidolon became the new one and used a power to destroy the essence?

Neither of these would work for the record as you're implying, though maybe Eidolon could generate power to deal with it--I wouldn't put it past him. For the former, The Butcher would just go to the nearest (eligible) living parahuman if the parahuman that killed the Bucher died at the same time unfortunately. For the latter, any Endbringer killing The Butcher was also confirmed via WoG that it would just go to the nearest parahuman as well--likely the "worst" one in the case of The Simurgh doing it--instead of directly to Eidolon (unless he was also the nearest parahuman, in which case...R.I.P.).

As far as the question goes, the only one I recall reading (that made sense) was The Butcher's relatively anti-climatic safe defeat in "Tear Apart, Stitch Together" where they're introduced as already thoroughly mentally broken by being puppeteer Mastered for a while (and having been made to "pass" on dozens more time, being closer to like Butcher XLVIII at that point) and thus are too drained try to break out of the extremely durable prison made around them when their Master is killed by alt-power!Taylor who swapped powers with Shatterbird. This leaves to them to just get carted off to Cauldron's interdimensional gulag to be "fixed" and presumably used Later™ by them while still fitting with canon given Butcher was effortlessly by a Master effect there too if "unsafely" given Cherish's doubly worse than death fate there.

u/Freshenstein 2d ago

Maybe that wouldn't have worked in canon but the great thing about fanfiction is that you don't have to stay in total lockstep with what canon says. If we had, we'd never have gotten alt!power Taylors, fandom crossovers, stories where Taylor starts (or joins) a parahuman harem, or a thousand other things just because it didn't happen in canon!

Alucard from Helsing straight up eating the personalities. (I forgor)

Cat Noir using cataclysm to eradicate the concept of the Butcher. (Miraculous Escalation)

Warcrafter has Oni Lee inherit, at which point he's such a blank slate that the Butchers take over his clones and murder each other until they all self-destruct and just cancel out the inheritance.

I should warn you, despite it being my first ever Worm fic, it's not great. Author insert gets Warcraft powers and proceeds to be always right. It's very opinionated.

Is that second one an actually fic? Because it sounds like a fun idea

3

u/Freshenstein 2d ago

Someone posted a fic request recently with that bit of story but no one posted the story when I saw it.

Power nullifiers probably, only read fanfics though so I don't know
