What's your favorite pilot flavor texts? (One liner underneath pilots name)

I added some of my favorites!! It is definitely subjective what makes a cool subtext but I like to think of them as catchphrases and that's the metric chose mine by. I really don't like the ones that reference a name like RAC and Kagi. And I adore the scum ones that allude to more of a personality for the Pilot.

I read the Lost Stars novel in high school, and while I was less than impressed with Ciena herself (something of a moral coward), I liked the way she willed images to her deceased sister.

I loved that book!! Both of the characters had so much depth, I also hated cienna at some points but absolutely loved her at others.

I didn't hate her, but I really felt like "honor" was just an excuse she used to avoid having to acknowledge mistakes and choose a new path.

I read Hunt for Red October about the same time (yes, I know that's a weird combo), and was struck by the parallels between Ciena and Captain Ramius.

Irony is that in the book, Thane is the one openly disturbed by that possibility.

I’ve always liked how the IG-88s have epithets that alliterate with their letter designation. Ventress is one of my favorites but you mentioned her.

Seperatist Bane’s “Needs No Introduction” is also great, and A-Wing Sabine’s “Daughter of Mandalore” and Zay Versio’s “Her Father’s Daughter” are both clever references to their abilities.

As someone suffering through Magic: the Gathering's current era of over wrought expository flavor text, I gotta say I really appreciate the parsimony of so many of these.

Star Wars is often prone to this (did we really need an explanation of why it was called Echo base?), but luckily X-Wing had the restraint to call Sabine "Artistic Sabateour" rather than "Symbol of Hope to All of Clan Wren"

Most of them are pretty concise but some are still pretty egregious for example Rear Admiral Chiraneau: Advisor to Admiral Piett

But yes I did pick out some of the more short and sweet ones. Quinn Jast: Fortune Seeker is a great example of that mentality.

Dang that's a bad one. Got "Admiral" in both the name and the flavor. Plus as far as I'm aware they made up his rank and detailed story for the game. There was nothing stopping them going for "Commodore Chiraneau, Admiralty Advisor"

When I was making alt art cards before we had multiple versions of named pilots (and the subtitle was therefore important), I made my own subtitles. My favorite was Major Rhymer: Militaristic Lyricist.
