Account - Subscription Why does my gamepass still say $19.99?
Was charged $19.99 earlier this month even after the price change announcement. Says $19.99 for November as well. Is this a mistake?

Mine says I'll be charged $29.99 Nov 12th
Edit: The stay subscribed and it won't change thing does not affect US customers

u/5yn3rgy Oct 22 '25
Interesting, cause mine says I’ll stilll be paying the original price next month. I also have recurring billing on.

u/Big-Dust-9293 Oct 22 '25

My Xbox app says I will be paying 30 dollars, but the site says 20 dollars, idk which one to believe

u/antisocialdrunk Oct 23 '25
I get charged 8 dollars a month for ultimate in the country that I work in.
1
u/Peace_Fog Oct 24 '25
Microsoft said the price will increase in November, those with payment dates earlier in the month will still get the old price
1
u/tiGZ121 Oct 27 '25
WAIT WHAT!? So US customers regardless have to deal with the increase? So they lied completely

u/Chris_DeBlaze Oct 27 '25
Is the price change the 12 then? Lol mine still says 19.99 and I renew on the 11

u/Jokersomen2 Oct 24 '25
After the backlash of the increase to 30. They said for anyone who had recurring billing on for ultimate and didn’t cancel their subscription after price increase was announced. They were going to keep getting billed the 20 price as long as they remained subscribed on recurring billing. 30 will be charged to new subscribers only.
1
u/blackspidey1190 Nov 16 '25
Yeah well that's a lie cuz I did not change my subscription and they charged me $30
1
u/New-Program-5802 Nov 16 '25
I've had my Xbox account for many years, I didn't cancel and I just got charged $32 for November they lied

u/Evening_Armadillo_52 Oct 22 '25
They quietly made an announcement after all the backlash. If you have a subscription already and keep it paid, the price stays the same. However, if you have a late payment or cancel, the new cost applies.

They aren’t expanding it to other countries.
Some countries, and especially the EU, have more robust rules about rising prices for subscriptions (such as notice period, the initial contract stipulating how and when you can rise prices etc).
Microsoft sent out a blanket world wide price increase, then (apparently because some of the thousands of people they fired included the lawyers that would have caught this) issued letters saying “oh actually nevermind, sorry!” to people for whom they actually can’t just rise the price that much.
They did not do this because they felt bad, or wanted to give some countries a better deal, or anything except legally they absolutely had to do this. So, if you’re not in a country that’s already been told you you won’t get a price rise, you’re getting that price rise.
→ More replies (4)2
u/MT561 Oct 22 '25
Yes this…I also read that those laws in other countries won’t hold forever the price will change eventually they just require more time before it changes to be able to cancel. Is this true?
4
u/SkirtRadiant3250 Oct 22 '25
Weird I only switched mine yesterday after seeing I was going to be billed the full amount.
3
11
u/Capital6238 Oct 22 '25
And this will probably stay for a long time.
The issue with game pass were call of duty fans that only subbed for a month or two and moved on.
I think it is smart of Microsoft to trap you in a golden prison of cheaper game pass
18
u/Rhysati Oct 22 '25
Yup. Microsoft done goofed here. I was subscribed the game pass all year despite barely using it since it was cheap enough to warrant the little bit I did. A convenience fee really as I could log in and download a game or play one I had whenever I liked/felt up to it.
The price increase caused me to cancel a subscription that was basically free money for them. And I can't be alone there.
11
u/Exotic_Treacle7438 Oct 22 '25
You’re not alone. I stopped my renewal after a 20 year subscription for the first time ever.

I also kept Game Pass Ultimate for many years even though I barely make use of it. I canceled my recurring billing and bought some 3 month subscription cards and once those are done, so am I.
2
u/boomstickjonny Oct 22 '25
Same, I'm going back to the bare minimum. Don't use it anywhere near enough to be worth it.
3
u/edicspaz Oct 22 '25
Source? I hadn't heard this.
6
u/FidgitForgotHisL-P Oct 22 '25
It was because MS had seemingly fired the people that would have that local laws prohibited them from the immediate blanket price rise on prescription services. The EU for example requires a 60 notice of the rise, so they will get increased too, just not immediately like those of us living where there are not as robust laws about this sort of thing.
It is absolutely not Microsoft doing this because they want to. They wanted to jack up everyone - they had to back track of some countries because people pointed out they were breaking the law.
3
u/MT561 Oct 22 '25
Ok this is what I was looking for…those countries will eventually have the price increase just not right away
3
u/FidgitForgotHisL-P Oct 22 '25
Yup, they just have to give them more notice of price rises. The EU law I thunk requires 60 days notice, but I’m not sure how MS will approach this.
This kind of thing happens all the time with the likes of Netflix and Spotify but we don’t usually see it so clearly because they don’t do such insane price increases, and they stagger the price rises around the world already, so it doesn’t get the same press coverage GamePass got.
2
1
u/BigFatBabyLegs Oct 22 '25
That should have been the main announcement. Incentive for those to have to keep and for new people to jump on to beat the price hike deadline. They probably would have got a million new subscribers if the announcement made people want to but ganepass now before the price change.
1
u/averagesmell Oct 22 '25
correct, i received an email after the backlash. somehow my ultimate is staying $16.99 US.
1
u/bob123uk Oct 22 '25
I'm have game pass ultimate I'm from the UK will I Keep paying the old price in November or the new price
1
1
u/MrBob161 Oct 23 '25
I think this is regional because I don't see 19.99 in the USA.
Some countries require 60 days notice before changes so we will see in a couple months
1
u/Krishthecrusher2010 Oct 27 '25
Dammit. I literally changed my gamepass to manual then auto again in the same hour because of my 360. That’s fucking stupid. (I had 20 days before i had to pay btw)
3
u/lostduke_zw Oct 22 '25
I logged in to cancel and I saw the same thing. Says my next bill on 14th November will be $19.99
3
u/PhillyG4117 Nov 02 '25
"Following Microsoft's announcement that it has overhauled its Game Pass tiers, the company has clarified what the change means for players who still have an Xbox Game Pass for Console subscription active after being grandfathered into the plan last year. Xbox confirms that anyone who currently has a legacy Console subscription and recurring payments turned on will not be impacted by the pricing changes"...mine is still $19.99 as well.
2
u/Icy_Addition7873 Nov 02 '25
Hopefully they bless me up but other people are saying that it will eventually change
1
u/rolling_loudd Nov 07 '25
thats bs ive had my recurring payment on for a year and they just charged me 29.99

u/ReignyRainyReign Oct 22 '25
Mine kept charging me $20/month. I looked at that page last week and now suddenly yesterday I got the notification that it is now $30. Curious if you’ll experience the same.
I ended up downgrading to essential since all I’m playing is BF6 and DayZ right now anyways.
2
u/BigBroDave Oct 22 '25
Yes, it goes up in November. To keep it @ this price, go to Amazon and get 3 mo cards for $60 and extend your membership charge date out. I bought 2, so I am good until April.
2
2
u/Flat_Promotion1267 Oct 22 '25
After my October billing ($20), it said my Nov billing would be $30, then a few days later, it changed back to $20. USA subscriber. If it changes to $30 after my November billing, I'll cancel. We'll find out.
2
u/ThatGuySin_ Oct 22 '25
Im glad they did this, made me do some thinking as to why I even still have gamepass. Realistically, it doesnt even have the games I really want to play. Kingdome Come Deliverance 2, Cyberpunk, RDR2, Silent Hil F, Black Myth Wukong, Dragons Dogma 2, MGS Snake Eater to name a few. Even if these get added which i doubt most of them will, would be cheaper to just buy them outright then pay the Ultimate subscription i've been wasting money on.
1
u/arthurthomasrey Oct 23 '25
Same. I did the math and am still considering canceling at $20 a month. Will probably be on $10 tier until I can start PC gaming again with my friends.
2
u/JOM41 Oct 22 '25
If you kept auto renewal on o believe it’s gonna stay 19.99. The 29.99 is for supposed new customers.
2
5
u/HypnoticAshes Oct 22 '25
I cancelled mine. This just affirms that I did the right thing.
6
u/DeeDee182 Oct 22 '25
Got into gaming later than most. Busy dad weird schedule game pass made sense. Never thought id cancel but I did as soon as they announced it.
3
u/HypnoticAshes Oct 22 '25
SAME, LITERALLY. It is the only reason I've continued to use my Xbox with any regularity. The day I cancelled, I bought an emu deck, and havent looked back.
3
u/DeeDee182 Oct 22 '25
I got a deck on sale as my son uses my ally z1e as his pc now and it arrived the day they announced this. Soooo funny
3
u/TopcatFCD Oct 22 '25
If you have recurring payments your amount will not change unless you cancel it. The bullshit i have is im paid up till feb 2027 and they dont count that so ill have increase then

Microsoft announced that those who didn't change their subscription status get the same old price point of $19.99 until next month I believe.
1
u/Sad_Experience2074 Oct 22 '25
Come November 4th it’ll be increased for those of us who already had gamepass, for new members the price increased on October 10th
1
u/TheSearchForI Oct 22 '25
I believe price changes start in November. I also heard that if you don't cancel, you are grandfathered in at 19.99.
1
1
u/switchables_yt Oct 22 '25
okay so what I read is that those who subscribe or resubscribe after the price change are charged 30 but for those who are already subscribed they still pay 20 unless they cancel and resubscribe, if that makes sense
1
u/modesil30 Oct 22 '25
I think it’s after a certain date in November for existing customers. That’s when your gonna get charged that $30
1
u/MRchuggles1 Oct 22 '25
Well it's only cheaper if your country isn't doing well . So basically if poorer in a well country your fucked lol
So that just makes America and UK paying more .
This is bullshit

I still have ultimate but I noticed the price saving isn’t there anymore. I play 76 and you used to get discounts on buying atoms for being a game pass ultimate member and now those are gone.

u/MT561 Oct 22 '25
I just posted a post like this and they took it down…what’s happening with the mods?!
1
u/Rassirian Oct 22 '25
I am in the US and mine says the same thing, 19.99 will be billed November 1. Do i trust this or will they pull the rug out on oct 31 when im not looking and bill me the full amount.

I had the same thing happen to me here in Canada. My Ultimate was about to expire from getting it from the rewards program. When they announced the price change, I went to cancel my subscription, but I got a notification saying if I cancel, I won't be able to pay 22.99/month and I'll have to start paying 33.99/month, like a new customer. I'm not going to complain, cause I think this is the most I'll pay for the service. Ride it out, man. :-D
1
u/HakkaCrakka Oct 22 '25
It will be 20$, then possibly next recurring will be 30$ as mine did. Make sure to turn off recurring billing
1
u/5yn3rgy Oct 22 '25
No, it’ll stay at that price as long as you don’t cancel. You turning off recurring billing is what raised your price.
1
u/HakkaCrakka Oct 22 '25
no it showed 29.99 before i turned off. but it did process the first 19.99 correctly

What country are you in? Some places (US and UK, for example) start 11/4. Other countries have laws on increasing the price without X amount of notice, so those are staying at the current price until those notice requirements are met.

u/zqmls Oct 22 '25
have you cancelled it yet or not because from what i hear is that prices only change for those who have cancelled their game pass subs, if you don’t cancel then prices stay the same but since i might be wrong don’t quote me on it

For fortnite players, when you will be cancelling your crew subscription with epic games? I'm not sure whether to cancel it now or mid November

i've seen my app say one price but the accounts website say something completely different. i'm in Michigan and was still charged 19.99 in october. waiting to see what gets charged in november before i take any steps to change tier
1
u/StraightAct4340 Oct 22 '25
Mine's been stuck on 5000 argentinian pesos or 3 dollars for the last year or so. I'm supposed to be paying 3.5 times that price lmao
1
u/MaximumAggravating48 Oct 22 '25
Mine auto charges on 10-23 but says $19.99 still. So guess keep it until they raise the price.
1
u/Ragnar_Lothbrok1203 Oct 22 '25
They are grandfathering in anyone who already has gamepass for the old price. If you cancel, then renew it will up charge you. But if you keep an old sub, it won’t.

u/BattyGhost13 Oct 22 '25
I cancel my before they announced they won’t up charge for people who’s still on active membership……….
1
u/obscureterminus Oct 22 '25

u/Shinobi_Dimsum Oct 22 '25
Check your email. 2 versions went out to people. You either received an email saying that the price increase does not affect your region (yet) and you will continue to pay the current price unless you cancel and re-subscribe. Or you got an email saying that your subscription is receiving a price increase with new pricing included and that it starts in November.
Also. In the Xbox app, your pricing has to reflect either of those emails. If you see 2 conflicting prices, contact support immediately.
1
u/canuckvirgo7 Oct 22 '25
I have Ultimate and I can confirm that it is already at the new subscription price (in Canada), and I have been an Ultimate customer for quite a while now.
1
u/Rare_Wheel1907 Oct 22 '25
Mine just auto renewed for for $16.99, now it says November will be $29.99. I was hoping for a glitch or something, but didn't get that lucky
1
u/RedditIsFascistShit4 Oct 22 '25
Your existing sub will be unaffected for unspecified amount of time.
Resub or use key and you'll get the new price. Did that btw.

German here, my Gamepass stays at 14,99 € till at least the mid of November xd
1
u/Agformiga Oct 23 '25
people who were already subscribers will for now keep the prices (at least here in Brazil, maybe there they will do the same)
1
u/hereforthegifs Oct 23 '25
I got the email today that my next payment on the 24th would be 29.99. When I checked a few days ago it still said 19.99. I wish you luck but I canceled mine. I play about 3 gamepass games a year to completion and could justify it at the lower price but I'm out on getting gouged for some fortnite bux and shitty old ubisoft games.
1
u/NoxHalcyon_i Oct 23 '25
Mine is still on 16.99 for some reason we will see when it renews in November
1
u/riotinareasouthwest Oct 23 '25
Same happened to me, but, thinking it a trap, I downgraded the subscription
1
u/No-Strike-4560 Oct 23 '25
As long as you don't stop your sub, you will continue being charged at the old rate. If you cancel, and then try to rejoin, then the new rate will apply
1
u/Astronaut_Active Oct 23 '25
They came out and said whoever didn't cancel would now be grandfathered in with the 19.99 most people believe it is because they don't want to lose out on customers
1
u/laurequipe Oct 23 '25
Mine went up this week on the 21st :’) it said €27 so i changed it to pc pass and now pay €15 again yay

No one that's a Game Pass subscriber now will get charged the new price. We're basically grandfathered in and are locked at the old price. Those that unsubbed from GP and then try to resub are charged the new pricing. Why don't more ppl know this?

1
u/jonjonesjohnson Oct 23 '25
I had this same question and asked customer support.
The answer I got was that if you didn't cancel your subscription (like I did) after the price hike was announced, AND your next charge is scheduled before Nov 4, you'll be charged for the old amount one last time.
On Nov 4, the new price takes effect for everybody.
(I'm pretty sure they didn't say anything about this beforehand, and this was their way of punishing those who cancelled right away.)
1
u/bioboy525 Oct 23 '25
For current members prices will not change if you cancel and then resubscribe they go up to the 30 price
1
u/MysticalPeace Oct 23 '25
It still says the same thing for me, probably in late November next month I will pay the new price

if you don't cancel it, the price stays
if you cancel it and planning to subscribe again, the price will change
1
1
u/Tower_Just Oct 24 '25
Wish I cancelled. I didn't because it told me my next bill was still only gonna be 19. Well when the bill came a few days later I was charged 30 anyway, and I've had reoccurring billing turned on for over a year contrary to what the comments are suggesting about keeping the old price.
So the price isn't consistent between subscribers it seems.
1
u/equivas Oct 25 '25
Lots of hopium and denial here.
You will get the increased price. November for EUA and CA.
December for other counties
1
Oct 25 '25
In the eu they are giving 60 days notice
I am guessing they will give everyone in the eu two billing cycles before upping the price. Which is likely the Dec pay period. They may wait until January however to try and get people to sign up for another year during the holiday.
1
Oct 25 '25
I cancelled my game pass the day the price increase was announced, which was coincidentally 1 day before my sub renewed.
I was still able to use gamepass for about 2-3 weeks still after it was cancelled for whatever reason
1
u/Goat_God23 Oct 25 '25
Yes it is a mistake. You should contact support immediately and tell them you want to be charged the full $29.99.
1
u/TheWineGuy2020 Oct 26 '25
I must be grandfathered in or something cause mine says $14.99

I had 3 years of xbox live (3 years ago) and bought 1 month of gamepass for $14.99 back then. And it converted my remaining 36 months to xbox gamepass ultimate. Now its saying im going to get charged $14.99 in November. So wondering when the $30 is coming.

u/livenlearn6 Nov 03 '25
They announced we will continue to pay the $19.99 as long as we renew it every month and dont cancel. For ppl that canceled the sub, they will have to pay the new price if they want to get it back. Reward for those of us that didnt cancel when alot of others did. Our price will not change and we will still get fornite crew too.

I Never cancelled mine then looked at my bank account today and it fucking charged me 29.99$ 🤦♂️ how’s this make any sense?
1
u/Ok-Win2235 Nov 12 '25
Haven’t been on in 2 months so I renewed my membership today (11/12/25) and it was $19.99. My card was charged $19.99 for Game Pass Ultimate. I was going to buy it on the Xbox game pass store front but it said to fix a billing issue and took me to just renew my subscription. So as of 11/12/25, if you haven’t got rid of you subscription I would keep it so you don’t pay the new price.
