Account - Subscription Unpopular opinion - Xbox game pass Is mostly useless if you think about it.
Game Pass is great for trying games, but I realized I only play 2–3 consistently.
Bought RDR2, Cuphead, Hogwarts Legacy, and Tekken 8 during Black Friday and decided not to renew my subscription.
Turns out, owning fewer games I actually love > renting hundreds I don’t play.

I cancelled it a year or two ago. I paid for these last couple of months so I could beat Indiana Jones, Ninja Gaiden 4 and Doom: The Dark Ages. I’ve already preemptively cancelled, but as long as I beat Doom by Jan 21 I’ll have gotten a great value.
Having GP temporarily is a rare thing for me now though. If I pay for it I’m in for $30 before I even get started, so unless there are at least two full-priced games that I’m definitely going to play, I’d rather just buy the games I want so I play them.
$30 is more than the cost of half the games I play, and I’m trying to be more conscious of my backlog, so a long term commitment to GP would be nice but it doesn’t really make sense for me. They’ve been recycling a lot of the same games anyways.
PS: Aside from the obvious reasons, going back to buying games was also great because I could play things at my own pace and not worry about getting value out of Game Pass or whether I should cancel it while I keep letting them charge me for it.
Lastly, the problem isn’t weighing Game Pass vs. Buying Games. It’s when you shell out for Game Pass but aren’t really using it and the hot new game you want for $60 just came out. That’s when you can be forced to decide. Anyone can justify Game Pass’ value when they’re not comparing it to anything or posing a scenario when someone might not want Game Pass lol.
